Any actor can cry in a scene. But to make the audience feel what the character is feeling and why they're feeling it is what takes it to another level. Give this man an Emmy!
Agreed ! Really genuine tears ! Amazing acting
Saving Private Ryan the Tom Hanks scene crying, that's very emotional...

@@Nick_315_Palumboagreee😑
as someone who actually goes to church, this song always gets to me no matter how often I hear it. i feel like this scene, no matter your actual take on church, is a really realistic example of how it feels to experience a personal spiritual encounter when you are at your lowest point.
As someone who isn’t religious, I can confirm that this song just made me feel something I’ve never felt before and I don’t know how I feel about that.
Last year my father had heart surgery. We had no family around to help out besides me. During that time I attended church. And the weight that was lifted off my heart just for that fleeting moment was worth the small dollar I threw into the plate.
God I powerful, but community is more powerful.
@@adriansedestrom5715 not to get all preachy, just wanted to say God was never meant to be experienced solely in isolation. Thats why the church is called the body of Christ, as Christians there is a necessary unity as a community with like minded goals and love for each other as well as those who aren't Christian. But of course many Christians have strife with one another and end up promoting disharmony and even discrimination which was never meant to be the case.
@@erinhillier85 That’s the joy and love of Jesus Christ. I may not know you personally, but I’ll pray for your salvation because Jesus knew you before you were born.

This show is a masterpiece and this scene is amazing.
Calm yo tits bud not really a masterpiece show lol
Agreed :)
I'm not a relegious person. But this scene just got to me really hard. Steven Yeun really puts his heart into this scene. You actually feel Danny's pain and burden and I just really feel like reaching out and giving him a hug.
It’s God’s presence. And you too can experience it. Put your faith in Jesus. He loves you and wants a relationship with u❤
Danny can release all his burdens on God's shoulder and feel relieved. The tears have shown that he has been comforted by Jesus❤
This is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. Steven Yeun deserves way more attention

Are we going to get season 2? I'm certainly hoping so. Netflix is notorious for cancelling good shows.
A lot of people seem to be misreading this scene. Sure Danny *says* to his ex and Edwin that he cried because he felt the presence of God but that wasn’t the truth just something he knew they would “like” hearing or respond to.
No, this is all of Danny’s burdens and stress crashing into him. In a room full of love, connection, and community… he has none. He’s not crying because he feels God (let’s not forget he quite literally is scamming this church) but feeling his own emptiness and despair. Nothing in his life is right and in a way, from his view, he has nothing. There is a lot he’s feeling, but ultimately that he has no happiness.
And sometimes when people feel that, yes they turn to God, because they’re hopeless. But this isn’t a cry of Gods presence, it’s depression and sadness unfortunately.
I agree. When I first saw this scene, I also thought that it was because of his crying to the song and the warmness of everybody around him. But back in my mind, there is always something that feels off about that thought that I couldn’t quite understand. Looking back, I realized that there was one time I was feeling exactly the same way as him in this scene during a concert. And reading this comment makes everything totally clicks for me.
Even in his or our selfish and manipulative ways, God can still get a hold of us. This scene could be the planting of a seed that God waters. Let's not underestimate the power of God in any of us, including a fictional character.
@@joshuatrott193 bruh it’s not that deep lol it’s a fake world… literally made for us to watch on our TV screens in *reality*. To put plainly, there is no God in there because he’s out here.
@@alexcarbery8189 you’re right, we’re not watching the same show lol. You make some great points about Danny’s character for sure, but Christianity is not one of his character arch’s or pillars in the show. Just because it is shown, does not mean it’s a theme for our characters journey. It’s not something that is actively driving him, hell chicken sandwiches from Burger King are a bigger pillar of characteristic for Danny than religion. You seem to be putting your spiritual connection to the show, which is fine and totally acceptable to do. But just don’t turn it into something it’s actually not… my “assessment” is not my viewpoint lmao… it’s the writers and actors… so idk what to tell you. Watch interviews, read articles, listen to podcast. Try not to think too hard about it, pretty straight forward. He has severe depression and has been masking it. Simple as that.
Why can't it be a little of both. Danny was raised in a Christian home so I'm sure he knows about God's forgiveness and all that. But he is also losing control of his life and he might just be overwhelmed and tired. Even though he is scamming the church he still might feel guilty for it. Good conversations though.
When i first entered a church like this one, there was just one singer playing a guitar, as he started to worship i started crying uncontrollably. on that day I gave my life to Jesus. all the addictions- drugs, alcohol porn etc. were take from me. later on i was set free of a depression and anxieties, panic attacks etc. Christianity is not a religion , its a relationship with The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. God can change you, if you wish to, just call out to His name. I pray that you all here may be filled with all the joy and peace as you turn to Jesus.
yea the show doesn’t rly depict Christianity. it’s just to create a story for entertainment

Honestly, it was so refreshing to see a church scene in media today.. especially one that is such a powerful scene of realizing that you are broken before God.. and that everything is okay and he is still calling you in your brokenness regardless of what you have done.
Steven's acting had me crying non-stop.
Made me tear up...for those who are overwhelmed with lives endless burden,,come to Jesus, his arms are open wide and he'll make your burden lighter. Hallelujah!!! 👏👏🙏🙏
Does going to church make me act like this character as the show progresses?
Amen
this performance is amazing.
Pretty accurate portrayal of an English Ministry at a Korean church. If you've never felt this sense of overwhelming emotions at a church, I'd encourage you to go, especially if you're struggling with certain things in your life. It's you connecting spiritually with your creator - God.
this is the greatest acting I’ve ever seen in my whole life
That cry felt so genuine, so amazing...
Steven Yeun is a phenomenal actor. Can't wait to see him a new project.
Mickey 17 with Robert Pattinson directed Bong Jung Ho😊
I used to go to church when I was younger, and being in a room full of people praising and worshiping God is quite an experience. It’s like you can feel the energy in the room that you start feeling overwhelmed by your own burdens and start crying uncontrollably..
That "energy" is The HOLY Spirit
Yes, that is the presence of the Holy spirit
I’ve literally made these same faces singing worship. Tears, frown pucker, while mouth whoa at the same time! Perfectly represented the feeling of grace!
I love Steven Yeun. He’s such a crazy good actor
I'm not a religious person but this scene really hit me. You can feel his brokeness and his need to be forgiven for his mistakes, to be witnessed for who he really is, welcomed in a community and hold by others. That is also Amy's need. And everyone's deepest need. This serie touched my heart and reminded me that we all are more similar than different ❤
This is the face I make when I try not to cry during worship. Well represented by the actor of a godly encounter❤
A beautiful scene. It shows how much a person can handle before the world gets them. It's okay to let go. It's ok to cry. It's ok to ask fo help.
Give Steven Yeun that Emmy!
He should get an Emmy and an Oscar for this
In my opinion this scene & the last scene of the series are the stand-outs. Brought a tear to my eye. Love this show. Hope they don’t bring in another season. This show was/is perfect just the way it ended.
Finally a mainstream show that doesn’t crap on Christianity.
Is it not showing how easy it is to emotionally manipulate people who are in their most vulnerable state?
This whole scene is a parody of the Asian American church worship experience. The most venerable aspect is that it shows the “healing” effect of community rather than Holy Spirit actually working.
Repent and believe the gospel. Jesus loves you
@l P I don't think the church here is emotionally manipulating Danny. Danny did struggle and suffer a lot. The emotions are just bottled up. It's been there all along. The church in this scene just provides a place and people where Danny could let it all out, and be comforted, and I think that's healthy in a way. To reflect on the failures you made, and if it's really sad, to cry on it too. It helps as a temporary relief.
Big ups to this show for making it so immersive
Legendary scene. Rewatched it countless times.
Same here brother😑
Matthew 11:28 NKJV - “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Incredible acting. Deservedly won the golden globe. 🏆
I cried during this
A song can hit REAL hard when you can feel the lyrics.
I sang along and knew that exact feeling. Love you Jesus. Ezekiel 36:26 ❤
Lord , touch many through this....
I remember I also cried during worship song. From reading the bible and hearing the lyrics, Christs sacrifice finally made sense and then tears came out
I am going through very hard time from last year and half. But i never cried once even at worse condition.
But this episode made me cry like hell for hours.
I pray that , May everyone in the world be happy , fit and sober from all the addictions and mainly satisfied from what they have around them 🙏
For me this is not so much about religion. The scene does not force Christianity on anyone, but this is also not meant to satirize them for comedic purpose. The real point of this is letting go and accepting you are a broken person. Like the protagonist, we carry a lot of things inside us. The real world is so cruel, it wont even forgive us for appearing weak. But in this temporary moment, he is allowed to admit he is a failure, and that it is ok. He can cry like a baby and no one is laughing at him.
Why you Atheist ruin everything LoL
It's a lot more impactful watching the episodes prior to this. As a 2nd generation Korean-American immigrant, growing up was extremely difficult. Especially in a society where advancement as an Asian was minimal in the early 2000's. Danny was trying to commit suicide because of all the hardship he's going through and ultimately lost his path. In this scene, he looks at the other church members crying and showing their emotions. Danny saw this as a safe haven to let his own emotions loose. Everything that was bottled up inside came out...
Something was definitely stirring in this scene
when I first watch the scene, how genuine it came across like it, jumped out of the television and onto my heart !!

Mate this scene brought me back to attending a church service and being overwhelmed by the presence of God.
I havent actually watched the show yet, but this scene really hits deep... This is probably the song that I resonated with the most when I first started going to Church about 3 years ago. I remember feeling so lost and alone. Useless, uncared for, and just so undeserving. Hearing the words to this song made me feel like I was actually welcomed somewhere and it was so overwhelming that it was hard not to break down like this. Its been a hard few years, and Ive broken down like this a few times already but I still put my faith in God and trust in the Lord that each day I overcome leads me to the life He has planned for me. I pray that my brothers and sisters here know that you are loved by Christ and that you will always have a place in this world and the next. Whether you are a believer or not, I wish you all nothing but the best in life.

Finally a decent scene on churchs without the whole congregation gossiping, the children of the pastor are into drugs, the people singing God's name seen going to clubs and getting drunk and otherwise judging peopke and be hypocrites. Not to say these things dont happen but its not the norm and neither is it a good representation of what Chritians should be. But in the world we live in this will never bot be the case.

Church is very comforting and I would've loved to be part of one, unfortunately it's just one of those things that doesn't resonate with me.
That is okay. I am the same. Maybe you shall find one in the future. However, you don't get to Heaven by going to church all the time.
