I forgot how great this song was.
This song was to his dad. He wrote it after his dad was murdered. Such a sad song but uplifting music at the same time. I hope it helped him get past his father not past it but he'll. I always loved this song.
I always felt this was about his Dad too, not just when John left his first wife and Julian's mother Cynthia, for Yoko, and Julian hardly saw his Dad until just before John was murdered when Julian was 17 years old and a few years before that, Julian and John were seeing more of each other and starting to become closer. So sadly, Julian was robbed of his father's presence, TWICE and of course after his dad's murder...permanently.
It was dedicated to his dad but has stated that the song was not about his relationship with his father, but was instead about a girl.
if memory serves me right Julien was named after John's mom Julia whom he lost when he was a teen..He and Paul were brought together in the fact they both could relate to losing their mothers at a young age....That loss helped seal their friendship...

@@patticrichton1135 Yes. I read John started to spend more time with Julian when John dated Yokos assistant. Then a year later Yoko called John and they got back together. Then again, John had little interest or time for Julian again. I blame Yoko Ono. She got 800 million out of John's estate and didn't care to give Julian one dime.

Julian is John Lennon's son and this is a song about when his Dad died when he was a young boy. When he says he has been wanting to die , he means he can't wait to see his Dad in heaven. Get your mind off women, not every song is about lovers.

Honestly, Julian Lennon is an incredible singer. I think that people should analyze his talent - Not the lyrics which were explicitly written for his dad’s passing . What a talent!

The truth is, people think this song is about his dad, it’s actually about his previous relationship before the song, if you read his story on the song, he clearly says himself it’s actually about his relationship, sounds like something ti do with his dad, I thought that but I read up about the song and he says it’s his relationship

His dad was not very present in his life prior to his murder.
eddygage5806 John DID walk out on Julian and his mother Cynthia (John's first wife) when Julian was 5 years old. He left them for Yoko Ono. Of course he was murdered on Dec , 8, 1980, so Julian "lost" his father TWICE.
