    This is great - thank you! My only minor critique is that I'd ask you to be consistent in referring to SCENES as SCENES and not referring to them as LAYERS. I understand that you're going to LAYER the SCENES in Layout, but in one of your later videos you talk about "bringing in different layers" and I was scratching my head about how to do that. You're bringing in different scenes. Now I get it. Thanks again.

    You have a special ability to make order from chaos, I think it starts with the Windows directory. Mine looks like a school kid's lunch box. Naming conventions are like road signs, so "Big Mountain house" works better than "Rural building #1". We have to put up the road signs as we go down the road first time, not knowing how far the road goes, or how many intersections might be coming up.

Relative to this video at about 17 mins in, when I copy and paste my furniture scene and then toggle the exterior walls view on to 'combine' the two, my floorplan and furniture scenes don't line up or are slightly different sizes. Is there any way to fix this or something I may be doing wrong? Thanks!

    Hi Justin, great video course, I've been following along from the start and have learned an absolute tonne, thank you. I know this video was posted some time ago so uses the older versions of the software, but by all accounts, it all seems to work in much the same way. What I am currently stuck on though is this: I have brought in the furniture floorplan and created a layer for it, then done the same for Walls - Exterior. When I click the eye next to the layer, the walls don't disappear, it does nothing, and if I click the eye next to furniture, the whole lot disappears. It gets even more confusing when I then try to bring in the interior walls because I have no idea where they are and can't find them to click on them. Any advice would be appreciated :)

Also the ability to, supposedly, quickly model and export trim and timber 3D items. It would seem to appear that each program has its own place instead of just using one or the other.

    I have a question. is it possible to create a drawing in a 1: 1 scale when it comes to large area, if there are restrictions on the size of working fields, can you make a drawing on a scale but set the dimension so that they are in 1:1 (real sizes) I don't know if I explain what I mean but I just have a problem with exporting a sketchup drawing to a layout, I would like to add real dimensions to it, how to do it? thank you in advance for your answer

    I have been looking for a solutions for this. I am new to Sketchup, I am learning daily but ran into an issue with something. I downloaded two 3d models in a 2017 format. One is a black pipe nipple threaded and the other is a base or floor plate that that screws into. I wanted to use them for a table as a support structure adn mount them between the legs. I am having a heck of a time using the move function to grab a pint and aligh the pipe nd in the center of the flanged hole? It is rotating and orbiting all over the place. Also when I use teh rotate tool or protractor tool to oreient the part it swings it in all sorts of weird ways. HELP!!!!!

    Hi! Great video- im putting a 2 story model into layout, but am having issues with the second story. In layout, when I copy and paste, and then changed the Sketchup model view to a different scene (ICF= 1, Service walls=2, Timbers=3), it is not pasting nicely in line with the first one, scale and location are off and I cannot seem to fix this.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 років тому

      Copy/Pasting shouldn't affect your scale at all...Can you do a "Copy", then go up to "Edit," and select "Paste in Place?" Then you could just move your second story geometry straight up without having to deal with other factors or directions...

    • @jdickson27
      @jdickson27 6 років тому

      the scale stays the same when i copy and paste but when i change the scene in model view, the scale changes to whatever i have it in my Sketchup scene. what i found i had to do was go back to my scenes in Sketchup and make sure they were all the same view/zoom...

    Hi Justin, thanks a lot for your very usefull videos, I am new here/using sketchup so still watching and learning...
    one short question regarding layout:
    is there any possibility to break the length of an object I put in? - to be precise if I put in for example a pool with the length of 12,0m it is either too big for scale lets say 1:50 but too small to be read/printed for scale of 1:100 (to be printed on paper "A4")....I do not need to see the whole length. Anyway if there is an option to break the lengt the dimensions have to show the real length..sorry for maybe stupid explaining....thank you

    • @colbycline202
      @colbycline202 6 років тому

      Nasser Alajmi , you can always export 2 layers and overlay them in Layout with a Paste in Place. Export one scene with a style of everything at 1pt lineweight, then turn off the topo and export the other stuff with a style at 2pt lineweight.

If I go to layout and if i click the walls scene first but then switch to the furniture scene, the walls are not hidden, they remain visible (even though walls were on a separate layer and everything like in your tutorial). What's causing this? Walls are on layer 0 though....would that be it?
