Awesome integrated sounded much better than my Yamaha As-801 and that schocked me because i thought i was up grading to the 801 but with all the new tech in the As801 just made it noisey
Hello Appalachia! Capacitors, not compacitors. The little transformer is your standby transformer. It provides power to the parts of the amp while it is "turned off". Or in "standby".
Art Vandelay the 801 has so many built in electronics pre-amp amp Bluetooth Dac subwoofer output it might as well be a receiver to Many things robbing from one power supply that basically causes higher distortion rate and all those extra electronics put off RF noise especially in one box A true integrated amp is just a preamp and a amp less electronics the less from robbing power from one sorce the less RF the better the THD level get you a good dac to hook up to it or a awesome cd player and you'll have much more cleaner power with that ax497 than you would with a 801 the 801 is all crammed up inside why do you think they make the Yamaha as 2100 and as 3000 like this amp with just preamp and amp only

@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 i currently own a vintage Luxman amp that has a very nice mellow sound. I'm planning to buy either a Yamaha AX396 or AX397, i found each of them for about 65$ in pretty good condition. I hope the Yamaha will have a punchier sound and better transients

I always use the amp in flat mode, loudness control total flat and treble and bass on -0- i do this to hear the purity of the amp without adding tone controls 'direct mode' This way i get the best balance of an amp Low-mid-top end. Sure i can color the sound with Tone Controls but then if i raise the bass/treble up you'll get more of a V shaped sound signature. Try for yourself bass -0- treble -0- direct mode with loudness control on flat , When i review amps i go by its natural sound with no add or subtract of tone controls , most reviewers do this because if you add any tone it changes the overall sound charcter dramatically and its not as balanced I tell ya this the Yamaha AX-497 sounds way better than the Newer AS-801 !!
@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 My treble, bass etc are at 0.I had that amp for £90 and i was shocked how good it is.Super rich and indeed natural sound. You can listen to music for hours with that one.Now i am looking for something old from NAD (probably 3020a or 3130) and A&R A60.I don't need anything better than Yamaha AX 497,because it is already phenomenal, but if i can find Nad or A&R A60 for cheap i wold buy any of them.Nad 3020 sounds pretty sweet i think.I will read some articles about A&R A60 and compare them.
