Aaliyah was the right amount of goth, girly and street
Love this
She was literally a biker chick! Like she was punk af! 😢
Such a hybrid!
@Kickinthescience definitely. I remember her saying in an interview that she was a big fan of Nine Inch Nails and Rob Zombie.
she had that... ginny say qua
This could be released today and sound fresh asf. Aaliyah was too ahead of her time.
Absolutely
Her loss is still so insane. Aaliyah was ahead of her time back then, now she’s timeless😢.
Not you were so mesmerized that we didn’t get a pause until after the second verse!!! 😂
Peeped! Lmao
Fun Fact: She had over 100 snakes in the video she was kinda scared of them at first but she got use to them over time & she also had a pet snake named “Boots”.
Man, I just deleted my comment because I posted almost the exact same thing 😂. Only the true fans remember her pet snake, "Boots" lol
right😍 she loves snakes
Aaliyah's makeup is amazing in this.
Done By the late Eric Foreman (1971-2001) who died with her 😢
@@kevaunmitchell1316 Eric Ferrell did her Makeup, he passed in 2020.
@@DajuanH. oh my bad Eric foreman did her makeup for rock the boat
@@kevaunmitchell1316 he was super nice and always interacted with fans.
right 😍every look she gave
"aaliyah was just chillin with some snakes"
If only you knew the irony behind those words
Exactly! Which is why she was so comfortable.
Clock it!
Mannnn she was telling us a lot in this video! But she was definitely the snake charmer. 😎🪈🐍
I have distinct memories of watching this video at a sleepover and we all agreed that none of us will ever be as cool as Aaliyah when she's chilling with the snakes 😂
This is hands down the best music video she ever made.
HANDS DOWN!
@@JessieDubois8 I’ll say that Are You That Somebody is better.
She had so many great music videos some of the best I’ve seen in entertainment. One in a Million will always be her most iconic but Try Again, We Need A Resolution , More Than A Woman and Are you that Somebody are my favorites. It’s hard to pick just one
it was released at the wrong time unfortunately and only reached #59. This should have been a October release 2001. Not her leading single for her red album.
Y’all really should do Aaliyah and DMX “Back In One Piece”🔥🔥🔥
Her beauty and tone is something to behold.
The symbolic nature of the snake is his behaviour traits. Cold energy, moving in twists and turns, coming in late, manipulating if she should be the one to change, even though she's seeking them to have a resolution to the issues.
Baby Girl was on her grown woman shit in this video! I love it! Her tone was sooooo good on this song. Shout out to Elvis for picking one of my faves! Could 'Hot Like Fire' possibly be # 1?!?!?! 🤷🏾♀️🤞🏾
You know the style when your underwear would peak out your pants. Aaliyah was a model in a Tommy Hilfiger campaign in 1997
If you guys have seen the movie “Queen of The Damned”, Aaliyah played the role of Akasha. She did phenomenal in that too. I think had she still been alive, she would’ve been in so many movies and tv shows. Another acting credit she was in was Trish from the movie, “Romeo Must Die”. She was taken way too soon. 😔
This is one of her best songs she was so ahead of her time
There is a ‘making of the video’ available here on UA-cam, but it doesn’t really cover the snakes, however she did in fact have a pet snake, which she took on MTV’s TRL which is also here on UA-cam….
Her voice is so angelic and her runs are fast as lightning. Literally if you blink you’ll miss them. Plus I still don’t understand how her voice is so soft yet thick and commanding at the same time. Especially on I Care For U.
“Joe, kangaroos..are..awful people” 😂😂😂
I feel like they would like a mya week
I agree. No question.
Fun fact; this song is sampled from the soundtrack/film score of the movie "Incognito"(1997). It's called "Tricks Of The Trade" by John Ottman.
My earliest memory of Aaliyah was watching this video on 106&Park. I was so mesmerized by her and the way she handled the snakes. I was obsessed with snakes cause of her. Aaliyah 1st worked with snakes for the photoshoot for her 2001 album. Her uncle bought her 1 of the smaller ones in the video and made his TV debut on MTV TRL when she scared Carson Daly with it🤣 you can find that and the bts of this music video on youtube. React to both. Aaliyah recorded many of the songs from her 2001 album in Australia. The snakes on her hips are real and she is wearing a snake skin outfit.
Aaliyah loved snakes. she had a pet snake named boots 😭
that's an incredibly perfect ironic pet name omg lol
Yes 😊 she loved snakes and dragons
Omg they were so mesmerized by her but same! I’m still blown away by her beauty
Aaliyah beauty 🥰😍 miss her.
I’m pretty sure it was her idea to wear that first black outfit backwards. It’s normally worn as an open back I believe. I’m thinking it was Gucci by Tom Ford.
She had a creative eye for style and aesthetics. ❤
I believe it was a Roberto Cavalli dress. He was one of her favourite designers, and one of the ones she had a working relationship with (as in, he sent her stuff and she didn’t have to go buy or ask).
I can’t remember why, but there was a reason why it was work backwards (I wanna say there was a sizing issue, might have been too big the other way). I can’t remember if it was her idea or her stylist’s idea for her to wear it backwards, but I do remember they contacted Cavalli to let him know that they had to have it on backwards lol.
Loves her Gucci and Chanel😍
@@JessieDubois8 you’re right 👍🏼 I just looked it up. It was her stylist Derek Lee who decided to reverse the dress. He noticed that the dress covered up a lot from the front compared to the back of it.
Mike has been on a roll lately 😂
My fave Aaliyah song, so unique
Number 1 gotta be I miss you or at your best, you are loved.
At Your Best was the one that got blocked at #5
@@corywynne2865No it was Back and Forth
I hope not
@@jikeeallen3103 It's none of those
The look y’all gave each other as soon as Aaliyah popped up in that black outfit! Love it. 😂.
Also! Aaliyah LOVED snakes! She owned one!
This is my favourite single by her. Vocally, it’s deceptively hard to sing. Lyrically, it’s SO good. It leaves the situation/problems in the relationship unresolved, which I find interesting. And musically, it’s so cool and ahead of the time. And that violin bit was sampled from John Ottman’s “Tricks of the trade” from the soundtrack to the movie Incognito.
And Aaliyah looks SO cool here. She was heavily into the goth look and was very into metal and different genres of rock music during this time, which influenced her look.
I also really love the blue outfit. She doesn’t normally have her hair wavy, so that was cool too.
Additionally: This was the last song recorded for her last album (due to issues Timbaland was having with the label. He actually did this, and his other songs on the album, as a favour to Aaliyah, in the midst of his disputes with the label).
It was recorded in March of 2001 and released in April of 2001. It almost didn’t make the album, that’s how close to the deadline it was! lol.
Vocally, this is the most “recent” single we’ve gotten from her (a lot of her unreleased stuff that we later heard was recorded between 1998 and 2000, I believe).
Detroit is in the building. Queen and we miss her!
This classic was released in May 2001. At the time id never seen anything quite like it before or since. I also always believed that Britney Spears was heavily inspired by this clip in summer 2001 to do her own 'snake collab' during her infamous and legendary 2001 VMA performance.
Oh FOR SURE. Either Britney or whoever came up with the idea for the performance. Cause it’s very blatant to me.
@@JessieDubois8It was Wade Robson who gave Britney the snake idea. Even Britney’s hair in that snake performance was similar to Aaliyah’s in the snake scene
And Britney dedicated that performance to Aaliyah after her passing.
Elvis is GIVING
AALIYAH IS SO MISSED 😭 RIP💐
Shout out to everyone who made sure to catch the Making of the Video episode for this song on Mtv. When they dropped this video, it was Aaliyah, the WOMAN. No more Baby Girl.
Can you do Aaliyah back in one peace ft DMX please !
This is def in my top 5 Aaliyah videos.
Hey guys, so I was hoping y'all would do a week 2 for MJB. These videos listed are a bit more storytelling/cinematic. I think you two would enjoy.

Number 1 has to be "The one i gave my heart to"
Next Aaliyah week please do I Care 4 U! Such a beautiful song in message AND vocally
Loveeee this song and video 🥰🥰🥰🥰 her makeup was always so ahead of the times i just love Aaliyah
You can tell when you guys love something because you don’t pause for awhile lol ❤
This is my fav Aaliyah song!
🎉waited for this moment
i love this song
I love the Middle Eastern influences in the beat
I remember when she debued this video on TRL back in the day. She said she loved the snakes and wanted more. This is from early summer 2001, and sadly, one of her last singles.
not yall getting into my girl😍😍 aaliyah☺
God I LOVE THIS WOMAN ❤ . gone waaayy too soon.
Just finished this on Patreon! Thanks Elvis!!
Whew this week was fire!
I hope miss you is on this list 🙌🏾
My fav MV from her

One of my FAVESSSS!
Guy they have a making of the video !!Look it up!😉
😮😮😮😮😮 yaaaaaaaaay!!!!! I ❤ this song so much and the music video is soooooo beautiful! 😊
Thank you for this ❤
Wow! Aaliyah week 2 is coming to a close. I need to go back to week 1 to confirm, but I think we’re still missing The One I Gave My Heart to, Come Back in One Piece, and Journey to the Past. I wonder what will be number 1
The one I Gave my heart to
For sure.
@@deed2157 That’s a great song. But Journey to the Past was Academy Award nominated. And Mike and Joe both love a rap feature on a song, so Come Back in One Piece could be it. We’ll see!
@@deed2157 Haha! You guys were right! Great song choice 😁
This is my favorite vocally Aaliyah song
Although I don’t think this was a good choice for a lead single I still love it and the dance
What?? This is a good lead single.
That black dress was worn backwards!
This video definitely better and more creative than Rock the Boat
I agree but the song itself is not better than “Rock the Boat” in my opinion
I think some of Aaliyah's best songs are the lesser known ones, like Choosey Lover, I Don't Wanna etc. I love her but I get a bad taste in my mouth when I see her work with R Kelly and Timbaland, which is basically the majority of her music catalogue. They both worked with her when she was really young; we know the rumours about R Kelly and Timbaland revealed publicly that he was in love with her which is not cool considering he's married and she was a teen, he was in his 20s.
Love “loose rap” and “i refuse” from this album
I Can Be is just phenomenal. What a song!
Yea I agree with that bc most of my fav Aaliyah songs were not singles.
How did I miss Aaliyah week 2??? Let me catch up, starting here!
@weeklytop5 Hey Mike and Joe! So to me this video was heavy influence to the movie that she starred in at the same time of putting out this album. The movie was Queen of the Damned. Her character in both was sexy but dark, seedy. Even though she’s totes gorg, can’t you see bits of vampire and seediness with the snakes?
What do you mean youve been waiting for another Aaliyah and Timberland collab? You had one in the video "If your girl only knew" You didnt recognize Timberland's voice in the beginning?😂Missy and Timberland wrote the song
Did I not say the Aaliyah was gone give yall the views yall needed. Everyone loves Aaliyah
Aaliyah loved snakes and anything vampire related that represented solitude and darkness.
This was the last song released months before her untimely death in 2001 😢
"Kangaroos are murderers!" 😂😂😂😂
Aaliyah loved snakes 🐍💯. She had a pet snake and she brought it on to TRL to scare Carson
reaction Angie stone no more rain in this cloud
Can you guys react to Journey to the Past by Aaliyah ?
I love thé looks in this video but I prefer More than a woman. I loved the design of being inside the motorcycle and I prefer the song. I also prefer Are you that somebody and Try again. We need a resolution is one of my least favorite songs of Aaliyah’s but I love the dance scene at the end with Timbalands rap.
I love that she used her own snakes in the video
I remember the making the video on MTV when this premiered
Joe did you mean "arbor"trailly LOL
She doesn’t look like she was in a 2001 video.
Aaliyah loved snakes and had a pet snake.
Fun fact: She’s wearing the black dress backwards.
why mike hate kangaroos? 😅
Please tell me you guys have seen Queen of the damned with Aaliyah as a vampire. She had an epic seductive dance scene still famous today. You should watch
Wasn't a big fan of this one.
I enjoyed it at the time, but now it just sounds too repetitive to me.
I found the video to the Making of We Need A Resolution. It was made in 2001 so the video quality isn't that great.
