She is one of the best selling female artists of all time, has several Grammys and other awards, was one of the leading acts of the 90s, and she is known for her numerous hits and her very distinct and unique voice, trust me you guys would love it. I couldn’t fit all of her hits in this list, but I think these may be some of her best and most important songs. A week dedicated to this legend would be amazing.

The only song Missy has ever produced for Aaliyah (at least that the public has heard) was “Where Could He Be”. Tim produced (most of) One In A Million (Jermaine Dupri, Guy Roche, Rodney Jerkins, and Vincent Herbert, among others, also produced songs on the album). Missy wrote.
@@JessieDubois8 that’s just not true I’m sorry. Missy and Timbaland both produced that album and literally both have talked about their producing contributions. Tim and Missy were a producing team at the time. It was also acknowledged by Aaliyah herself in numerous interviews.
@@antonyware Look at the credits on the album, on spotify/itunes, on ascap, etc. Missy wrote the lyrics, Tim wrote the music (arrangement) and produced. It was only after Missy was producing for big artists that they were being called a production duo. But she was never credited with producing ANYTHING by Aaliyah. She was only credited as a songwriter for the songs she worked on for Aaliyah.
“Where Could He Be” is the only song that was produced by Missy, and even THAT is an assumption because it was never officially released by Blackground, so the songwriting and production credits were never officially released.

One of the most played videos on MTV in 1998. Aaliyah's 1st Grammy & VMA nomination. From the Dr. Dolittle soundtrack. Lol Aaliyah was cautious of that bird🤣 Her hair was held together by actual nuts (as in nuts & bolts)🔥 This was her first time wearing a skirt/dress in a video. They had to beg her to do it for the flamenco choreo. Aaliyah (vocals), Timbaland (producer), & Static Major (writer) made this song in just 4 HOURS. From 4-8am & had to be turned in by 10am. They heard it on the radio at like 11am🔥 This was shot in the same cave they filmed Batman in.
I just want to add: They did the song RIGHT after a performance. They literally went to the studio after getting off the stage. Then worked until 10am with a deadline at 11am. Insane.

It’s from the Doctor Doolittle soundtrack, hence the animals. Beat by Timbaland. And, this is the first time we got to see Aaliyah in a more mature outfit. The dancing at the end in the flamenco style. Fatima Robinson choreographed this sequence and made Aaliyah wear that, Fatima can be seen on the right of the singer.
Timbaland and Missy Elliot were instrumental finding Aaliyah’s sound during her second album. It was that VA sound. And yes they were a crew along with Ginuwine, Magoo & some other artists. They were devastated upon her passing.

You know what it reminds me of? I don’t know when this stopped being a thing, but in the late 90’s and early 00’s, a lot of movie theaters played music before the trailers would start. And that was the first time I heard this song, in my local theater.

Ahh I love her so much. I grew up all through her career. I was the same age as her. From her first single, I related to her. Being a tomboy. Singing. Loving to dance. I remember this being one of the first times she really started getting into her feminine side. Idk but I just remember being surprised at the last dance scene when she’s in a dress and such.

So, Fun fact: Aaliyah is the person who put Timbaland (and Missy) on the map! Timbaland and Missy were unknown producers/writers, and she took a chance on them after hearing a demo of some song called “Sugar and Spice” or something. She got them to write/produce most of her album One In A Million. They changed the sound of the radio in 1996 when it came out. EVERYONE wanted to work with Tim & Missy and always asked for “The Aaliyah sound”.
Actually Missy was already an artist way before that and after the song she did with Gina Thompson she was offered a deal but she didn’t want to be JUST an artist Mona Scott got her the deal she wanted and that’s when Tim and Aaliyah Ginuwine Nicole Wray and magoo came and they formed a crew!!
