Nice Project! Thanks to video! 👌🏻🎅🏻👍🏻🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮
Great restoration of a lovely old machine.
I like your video production style and your calm, knowledgeable narration.
Awesome Tim! Leave it to you to motorize it. Seems to work great. Good to see you brother. Your looking well. Keep up the good work.
An Awesome restoration on a Very Cool Tool ! Good Job Sir !
Thank you very much!
Great video!!! Thank you Tim, as always, quality stuff
Thanks again!
That is a Great JOB on the old post drill. Looks like a new one.
Love that old stuff, especially the motor. We could wish for such quality today.
Couldn't agree more!
What makes this video even cooler is that I have one of those - except mine is likely older as there's nothing but a solid rounded cast iron flywheel - no groove. I bought mine at an antique flea market for $50 back in May and at that point, it was hardly rusted at all and turned fairly well...now with grease...the thing is effortless. I will eventually clean it up and paint it but as it stands, it's my only drill press. It's currently mounted to a piece of maple 1x6 and when I need to use it, I clamp the board in my leg vice and drill away.
Great video Big Dog!
Very cool man, Thanks for watching.
Great restore as always Tim miss ya brother
Miss you to, Say Hi To The Family For Me. And be safe my friend...

Good to see you Tim , The drill is awesome mate I seen one at a farm sale but it was sold . Don't see many here in Australia so I will keep looking . Cheers . :)
Thanks 👍
Awesome restoration
Thanks 👍
Great job!!! Good to see you again. God bless and protect you.
Use small balloons in the bores you want kept clean. Partially blow up the balloon and poke it in or blow it up in the bore if you can get to it. That's how our paint guys were painting the big industrial machines I used to help build.
great tip
I’m gonna use that idea when I go to restore my 73 international pickup
Super cool drill !!
..Great find and Kudos for putting it back into service!! Great to see ya again also...!!
Thanks! You too!
Woot , Good to see you again my friend give me a holler some time have wondered how it went...
Thanks Brother I hope all is well with you and yours, Thanks for watching and be safe My Friend.
Great to see you back in the shop sir. Got my Grandfather's post drill in my garage, got to fix the auto feed lever. It is circa 1912. So this lets me see what it can look like when I get it fully gone through.
Thanks 👍
awesome resto Tim 😁👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks for taking the time to share this excellent and respectful restoration. Always like to see yard art restored to functional tooling.
Thank you very much!
That's incredible. I'm fascinated by the old tools. They just don't break and seem to be infinitely restorable even when abused for decades.
Great video, glad to see you working on a project for the shop. I have one waiting to be rebuilt as well, thanks for the inspiration.
Cool, thanks
That was just great to see the drill work again!! I've one that was my grandfathers, it's about 350lb! Thanks for the video.
Dude, suhweet!!! Best 20 you ever spent! Great job breathing new life into it! There's a guy somewhere here on youtube that modified A modern chuck to go onto one of these. Might be fun to look into. Keep up the good work Tim!
Love it, I was trying to figure it out and after all is said and done it is an old fashion drill press.
Very cool! Awesome job with the old tool resto mod! The paint will definitely help keep it going for many years to come.
JUST SHARE IT!
Thanks 👍
Hey Tim,
So good to see you doing your thing. So good just to see you!😊
Man that thing is super cool!😁
Hey, thanks!
Nice work Tim
Thanks 👍
Missed ya videos Tim love your content and happy to see you back hope you and the family are doing ok buddy
Great to see you again. awesome how those old machines can be cleaned up and be put back to use.
Love your channel.
Even in its rusty state that would sell for $200 in Australia. Great job mate.
Thanks
Damn good to see you on here. Man I owe you so much and you don’t even know. Thank you for all you’ve shared. You’ve got a solid fan base, stay with us.
Thankyou that means a lot and thanks for checking out the video
That is kick ass brother
Awesome restoration, absolutely love watching you work.
Thank you very much!
A hybrid! well done.
Lovely old drill!
Thank you Sir.. and Awesome belt and buckle you made good job.
Cool drill. Hope all is well with you and yours.
Dang! Apple cider vinegar is expensive. Too expensive for rust removal. Citric acid is dirt cheap. Awesome resto!!!
I've never had success with Vinegar like shown here. Not going lie, when you but it in the bath I laughed and said no way. I was wrong. Cleaned up very nice.
Been a while Tim! That’s really cool, what a find and after your superb restoration be another 100 years work in store for it!
Thanks 👍
glad to see a vid from you brother
Much appreciated
Cool Tim!
Great video Tim, top restoration, the drill looks like it just came from the factory floor!! Now you’ll be able to produce drill holes by the bucket full.👍 Regards from Down Under.
Thanks 👍
Outstanding
Always a treat to see Big Dog Forge in the sub box. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos.
I appreciate that!
You say Hammer, I say Tap'o'meter. ;-)
Very nice.
Thank you
Tim, I think this is your latest video. Hope you are ok. I enjoyed the video and I'll check back.
I am Ok putting together a video as we speak see Ya soon.
Haven’t heard from you in a long time, you doing ok
❤ iam doing the same to my old post drill
thank you, great work :)
If you take a couple of empty plastic milk or juice bottles and fill them with water you can put them in your vinegar or Evaporust bins and they will fill normally empty spaces and will rise the level reducing the volume of chemicals required and also making sure all of your parts are covered
That is awesome 🤩
That’s awesome Tim! God Bless you sir!
Thanks! You too!
@@BIGDOGFORGE Thank you!
Pb blaster works really well just a little info
I haven't seen that mechanical feed rate advance, so it was the unique aspect for me...
Hey! I recognize that motor! It’s the top half of Hobart’s very first Kitchenaid, the model H. It is not marked ge anywhere on it, but that is it.
finally got that 23 jet ribbon burner built, I thought about putting a steam engine on one side with a train whistle to use up some of the forge residual Heat... it would kind of be funny and goofy but still really be useful
that moto wad the baldor 3/4 hp motor equivalent of it's day.... I've seen them on wood lathes and even sewing machines
Didn't see your or here yet tell me what the name of the news poster was and interested in what you call it nice little fined. Really good to see you back on keep them coming I'll keep watching have a great time man.
Oxalic acid works well for de-rusting without harming the not rusted parts - about a 10% solution. Electrolytic de-rusting in a washing soda and water solution is also good. BTW that drill wasn't that rusty 😀. Turned out great though. I'm sure that you will use it a lot. From my limited experience, they work really well, especially compared to some of the newer pedestal drills like my really sloppy Ryobi one. 👍
I got hold of a Dawn (I think) post drill a while ago, but it cost me about AU$100. It was free moving unlike yours. I hope it still is when I get around to tidying it up. My Grandpa had one mounted to the wall in his workshop that he had added a washing machine motor to. I can't remember whether his had a V groove in the wheel or not. I also can't remember what breed his was either. I have a feeling that he had adapted a pulley from a washing machine to drive the drill.
I have some old catalogues somewhere that have some post drills in them. If I can find them, I'll email you a copy.
Hope all is well with you. Haven't seen you on in a while. Holler at is and let is know you're okay.
Peace and love, Tim
I am Ok putting together a video as we speak see Ya soon.
@@BIGDOGFORGE So glad all is well Tim, awaiting your next vid. Was just worried my friend. Peace. Tim
I live in South prairie man, just found ya, would love to do a collab! Into blades for about 3 years now. Love the channel!
Big Dog Forge I miss seeing videos from you. Did someone leave the gate open and you wander off? I'm just checking in on you, miss you man.
The bottom bracket is commonly lost. Mine is missing that as well. Need to make one so I can mount mine.
Great looking drill. But that would seem kind of inconvenient. You say it's going out in a blacksmith shop with no electricity...but you put on an AC motor?
😃👍
I have a buffalo forge drill press like this that I'm restoring. It must be slightly older because it doesn't have the v belt pulley. Would you mind showing more about the advancing arm. I'm having trouble figuring out how it supposed to be set up
Tim where you been??? Miss your videos ☹️
i have missed you. i happen to have 2 post drills, neither are electrified yet?
thanks for youre video. ive got a 614R ive had for years thats always had no advance arm or pawl. i made a arm today that while not original will look ok. could you please tell me the distance from center of the pivot point of the pawl to the tip that meets the top gear? thanks
Tim, always look forward to your vids, but it's been 8 months! I hope you are doing well.
Bought one for 75$. It has a crack in the main body of the drill. Its cast iron. I dread having it welded. But i think it will be worth it.
your flywheel was designed to work with either a flat belt with an overhead driveline or an electric motor... quite a nice setup
