Thank you! That's the encouragement I needed to get off my duff & make a few more. I love doing this stuff & I've been meaning to create a bunch more videos.
Good Stuff, often you can get close to what you search for, this was exactly what I was looking for. You should make more videos. You have a great voice for it, good tempo and information and also, the perfect amount of humor. you put em up ill watch em!
You see... I keep failing to get off my duff to make more videos, then I swing back through here and see these comments and it lights a fire under my rear to get back at it! Thank you for the comment & I just want you to know it's all your fault that I'm jumping back in! ;)
I'm new to inkscape. I'm using it for CNC plasma. That Union is what I was looking for. I like the shortcut keys too. Subscribed because I like the way you explain things.
I watched this vid 2 days ago it was like janapese. Then 3 hours of inkscape tutorial later not i get it! This guy know his shit come back after learning inksacpe a but and learn from him.
Thank you for the feedback! I know this channel is void of much content, but I'm hoping to build on it this year. I also appreciate the perspective (not enough Inkscape how-to to make sense for folks new to it).
Hello your video is great, please can you advise me how i turn off the automatic anchoring. Problem is i cant put items where i want on deskopt, automaticly is add to another item by central, etc.. can you please answer me ? thanks
Great video...I'm trying it myself and it's working out except for the snowflakes. I imported a snowflake SVG file but they won't union with the circle. Any ideas?
My guess is the imported snowflakes might be grouped paths. If you select JUST the snowflake, look at the bottom status area below the drawing area & see what it says the selected object is (it should say 1 path. If it says 1 group then you need to ungroup it until it's just a path). Once it's a path, you should be able to union/difference it.
odd think. I have a jpeg and traced its outline and put a circle around it. Looks great. I then ran the union command. Now my outline inside the circle is gone. Any thoughts? thanks.
Having an issue with the letter "i". I'd like to keep the dot but make it part of the joined name. Any pointers? Thank you! This video was very helpful.
I know this is really late, but... The best bet here is to include another element like one of the snow-flakes near the dot so it can hang on to that bit but still be detached from the body of the "i".
Love your video, and I'm new to Inkscape and when typing a "word" I can not get the whole word to move at one time, my question is how in the world do I do that or anyone?
Hi I was watching few time and not catch it what you are clicking (your in the screen) when you have the ornament finished and you go to X the fill and put a number in the stroke style it changed whole ornament finished.... what?? I don't understand it at all.... not get it so how? Since I tried to read on CC but you did not say anything how and what is clicking???
Ooh! That's a great idea! I'll work to put together a cheatsheet & get it out there! Bonus, I'll put it together in Inkscape and make a video on making graphic-focused documents!
Love the video but I can’t see what you are clicking (your in the screen) when you have the ornament finished and you go to X the fill and put a number in the stroke style and yours go completely to what the laser is going to cut. The snowflakes are cut off where they hang over in the inside. What am I doing wrong? I can’t get to the last part! Help!
Sounds like you've got the word on top of a solid shape. Go check out ua-cam.com/video/aXD8BFjYoIg/v-deo.html to see where I do a difference with the 2 large circles to get the "donut" outer ring of the finished design. If you just place the text over the large circle and select union, it's going to combine the solid circle with the overlapping text (which results in just the large circle remaining). Hope that helps! Let me know.
Ouch… Sure, my teaching style isn’t for everyone. But that was just plain rude. I hope your will to live returned after you flipped back to your favorite short-form content creator. Life is too precious to concern yourself with the opinions of those who don’t know you to begin with. Cheers!
Thanks.......just got my laser today and very excited to get things made!!!
This was so informative! I'd love if you'd start making more videos like this.
Thanks for the feedback! It's on my list of things to get back around to... :P
Great tutorial! I’m a newbie but was able to keep up. Thanks for pointing out all the little shortcuts and techniques as you went along! SO HELPFUL!
Thank you! That's the encouragement I needed to get off my duff & make a few more.

That's a brilliant video tutorial, it has inspired me to design and cut my own out...thanks from Martin in Nottingham England.
Aw, you're welcome! Enough positive comments like these & I'll have to get back at it!

Great video, just started with the laser and 3d printing and the use of Inkscape will help a lot,
Glad it was helpful!
I'm a big fan of opensource software! Even though I have Adobe Illustrator, I still lean on Inkscape for a lot of projects. :P
Very creative, very well explained... great job!
Thank you! Cheers!

Is there anything else you can think of for me to do in my next video? Anything else you struggle with in Inkscape?

Any chance you have the list of shortcuts?

Great Video would love a cheat sheet of all of the short cuts if possibe :)
Ooh! That's a great idea!
I'll work to put together a cheatsheet & get it out there!

Funny guy here!
I try :D
Great tutorial!!! But i have a problem, when i put the 2 circles toghtere like you do on 2:28 they disapear. I can't make the donut. Any Hints?
Make sure the smaller circle is on top of the larger circle. Inkscape will always subtract the top path from the bottom path.

So sorry about that!
I'll make sure to not skip any steps/clicks in my future videos!
Which fonts have you used ?
Bromello, it is displayed in Inkscape fonts
What was the name of that font?
Every time i union the word to the shape i loose the word... any help?

So much pointless waffle, I lost the will to live after 2.30.
