Pretty cool to see Shinkawa using a tablet to draw. I never knew he colored digitally way back then. The first Metal Gear Solid is still my favorite in the series
It was mine too but Snake Eater is up there with it, it's hard for me to choose but without a doubt MGS1 had the bigger impact on my life so I guess that breaks the tie.
I believe a lot of people, especially video game artists, realized the potential of drawing tablets around that time. (I can't remember from which interview I heard that from though.)
@@donqui4114 Know the difference between PC emulation and PSX emulation. Also, you need to understand the difference between animated cutscenes and an actual gameplay. Watch 4:30 to understand better what I mean. Are you sure that looks better than the final product on PSX? "The Division" would be a suitable candidate for that kind of gimmick which you are talking about.

It's Still my favorite game of all time! The Color pallet, the environment, the tone, the setting, the character and out fit design, the attitude of the main character. All were a huge influence on what I thought was cool when I was growing up. Snake's Exo-suit still has my favorite color of Blue
This little artifact of the pre 21st century needs to be preserved for the future, this is a slice of late 90's gaming heaven before the state in which the gaming industry is in right now, with triple A studios fucking up major big name franchises to no end. Also alot of those amazing games of the 90's have stopped being made, it's ironic that over 20 years later metal Gear isn't even being made anymore. Metal Gear survive doesn't really count either, sadly Konami really did just want Kojima to keep pumping out game after game of Metal Gear sequels and prequels to milk the shit out of that series. A part of me misses the early days of when Metal Gear Solid was the best game to date. I can remember the very first time I played Metal Gear Solid for PSX back in Christmas 1998, my brother had got the game as one of his gifts, him and I would go on to binge that game until we beat it. Man those were the days, so many good Playstation memories. If I could go back in time to relive that very first time over and over I'd do it in a heartbeat!
The demo alone was more polished than full games on release date...also had more replay value and could be finished in a minute or so. While very hard to narrow down without a real deep thought, metal gear solid is in my top 5 favs of all time, along with Pokémon red/blue, Res Evil 2, Megaman legends 2, Ocarina Of Time.
You gotta be out of your mind my man, don't let nostalgia kill your judgement. Those graphics are unacceptable for today standards, they were top notch for it's time tho, it was like Dreamcast shit like 2 years earlier, even tho the storytelling of this game beats the crap out of anything being made rn, if it was released right now, being a half unknown game like it was back then, I'm sure it would be ignored just because it doesn't look good enough.
Considering that 3D was a brand new thing, and 2D creators like Kojima had no frame of reference for the actual limitations, it’s amazing they made something decent, let alone a masterpiece on the first try. I just know creatives without technical knowledge had big epic ideas before they understood what was possible, because the rules hadn’t been written yet. It probably really helped that they weren’t making a game from scratch, they already had the basic mechanics in place from the previous games. It makes me wonder what Kojima’s role really was though, since he wasn’t involved in the technical side of things. And I can only imagine any additions or changes took forever to implement, so there was no adding or tweaking things on the fly. You really had to commit to ideas and stick by them. And as games like Quest 64 showed, it was easy to plan poorly and rush out something unfinished for a deadline.
FH H Sure, but it still sucks compared to the final product in terms of atmosphere and level design. And im glad they never used this version of the mgs theme in the game. It just doesnt fit at all.

@@NicolasBahamondes Going by the UI and date of the video (1997), it's MetaCreations Painter 5.5 Web Edition. What would now be Corel Painter.

melagkomas20 dude shut it
Is there the full documentary ?
Kojima hasn't aged much in last 20 years.
Asim Siddiqui hasn't slowed him down one bit
The nanomachines coursing through Kojima's Veins keep him forever young.
If you live a life free or mostly free of nicotine, alcohol, or hard drugs you age well. That and nanomachines help too

Its so cool that they used Legos to model the level
He did the same for the tanker and big shell on MGS 2
That's the beauty of designing, specially for videogame design. Is all about practicality and balance the fun, or pace 😁
When games are created to be games with good storylines. Not for money milking out of DLCs, multiplayer and pay to win shits.
how dare u!!!skins for guns and clothes are best chit what happens 4 the players!!!:))))))))for money!
Some still are. Also, companies were plenty rapacious back in the 90s as well.
Well they did expecting some profit.
Remember The artist need to put some food on the table
An official lego remake of MGS would actually work holy shit.

Always inspiring to watch a bunch of geniuses doing what they master
The magnum opus of the PSX if you ask me
The wireframes look quite complex, seen like that. Hard to believe this runs on a 1994 console.
Well it doesn't. The footage here isn't the MGS1 released
@@Pan_Z maybe the PC version, but actually PS1 had a risc CPU like those fancy machines but it was a cheap version like 10x slower

are those burn scars at one side of ocelots face?
Golden age when game were released perfect without bugs and complete!
MGS1 has plenty of bugs and polishing issues. Don't be blinded by nostalgia.
Crazy how when you look at the models when viewed on the PC at full resolution and comparing them to what we got on the PS1.
Probably had to rein in their vision to meet hardware specs at the time. It's still amazes me they got this running on a 1994 console.
Very cool nice to see how hard it was to make a video game when windows 95 was a thing.
Textures are quite better in this footage, especially on the faces.
