@@fernandozavaletabustos205 Thank you!
You are welcome! Greetings from Mexico.@@KojiProNetwork
Imagine having Solid Snake himself apologizing for your dad's eagerness to make you play MGS. LMAO
I love how their kid was like "That has to be edited" it cracked me up
@@dalehadley3283 the kid is already doubting what is real and whats not. Having Nitroid as your father is the closest you'll ever get to the Raiden - Colonel relationship in MGS2
I see David Hayter and I click immediately.
Same here lol I’m a simple man, I see David hayter and I click
What a great guy, they say don’t meet your heroes but glad my favorite voice actor from childhood is a cool dude
met him at a con and he could not have been nicer to everyone that went to meet him.
He did a Cameo for me and I'll never forget how personal it felt. Ever since then, I've gone out of my way to consume any content with him being his genuine self. Easily one of the coolest people ever and I would be honored to meet him eventually.
40:20 For people curious about MGSV.
He likes it more than I do.
It still blows my mind that they didn't hire him for the game. Kiefer would have worked for Venom Snake just fine, but David should have reprised Big Boss.
@@laglord Big Boss isn't in GZ or TPP, It's ALL Venom.
I see why people want the voice, but it actually changes the meaning of those scenes if they are "correctly" voiced. That is the brainwashing that us and Venom experience.
@@Notallowed101 shiiit, time to watch some explainer videos
@laglord hehe or just read my autistic ramblings... Yes the voice of the GZ Medic is the voice of GZ BB and Venom Snake simply to hint that the Big Boss you see in games isn't real but a phantom.
I mean even the lack of dialogue from Venom Snake which is mentioned in the podcast is just the fact that Venom isn't really BB but some brain damaged copy just playing a role the best he can. One of the first things Venom says to Kaz is "Tell me like you used to".
But ultimately it's left ambiguous enough for the player to project their own interpretation of the Boss onto Venom. Every player depending on which games they have and haven't played will have different ideas of who and what Snake is and stands for.
And this is then called into question: how much is Venom LIKE Big Boss? How much of him copied over, and what can be copied? Memories, ethics, belief? These ideas are explored within the game, ideas about the ideologies and beliefs people have and whether they truly die with the people that held them or whether other people can authentically carry on the beliefs of others without corruption.
Like Hayter says, he's doing the voice lines in his head of what he would say, and I'm sure other people are too - but it's all dependant on which games in the series you've played. Whatever they played to Venom to make him think he was another person is very similar to how players have been acting out the various Snakes over the years. That's your own programming - and why you create the Medic's appearance at the start of TPP.
It think there's something really funny and meta about many of the oldest fans making their avatar look like Snake and then getting semi-confused at the reveal at the end when Venom's appearance changes - as if suffering from their own self-inflicted disassociation.
Every time I hear his voice I get goosebumps.
Absolute lengend. His absence from MGS 5 was a crime.
All they had to do was have him voice the real big boss at the end and BOOM!!!
Bro, I'm a lifelong Metal Gear fan, too. We all love David, but Kiefer was awesome. He gets way too much shit for taking a job he was offered, and doing his best with it. Imho, Kiefer nailed it.
@@RevolverR0nin keifer phoned it in...
@@hellbent650 In what way? You know that MGSV had the same VO director as the other games. Kris Zimmerman. If she directed everyone who VO'd a character we all love, what happened with Kiefer then? Did she phone it in, too? What about when Troy Baker gave love to Kiefer for killing it on the game? Of all people, I'd think Troy would know if someone "phoned it in". I get the whole loyalty thing. But it is possible to love David and still like Kiefer's work on MGSV.
@revolverronin u know, God damn well that he wasn't equal to or greater than his predecessor.
Man david hayter is so awesome!!! He knows what he is and how much of an impact he makes on people 😢... he just feeds us new bits every year
thank you Mr Hayter 🙏
Dang that hour flew by! This is the first time since YongYea interview with him during MGSV speculation podcast that I have heard David and he is still as cool as I remember! Age hasn't slowed him down one bit
Omfg i need David Hayter mod on MGSV. Hearing these lines made me so sad that we never got him in MGSV or even Ground Zeros.
Or just have him voice the actual Big Boss at the end of the game so it’s clear that Kiefer Sutherland was voicing Punsihed ‘Venom’ Snake and not Big Boss
@@H45556 I concur however, David would need to voice him in ground zeros and do a slight voice change to play Ishmael.
@@isaiahgarcia2464 true
There actually is a mod that does this

KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS Especially Kojima owes this man an apology.
His obsession with celebrities is detrimental.
I think he did apologize and buried the hatchet otherwise Hayter would never have come back to Kojima Production
@@crashpalseems like a fair assessment
@@crashpal Yeah if Hayter forgives then no one else has a right to be mad about it.
Kojima is obsessed with Hollywood movies why his next game is going to be like a movie because that's what he's always wanted to do
Sneaking end of the dark at the beginning was so smooth.
That's our theme song, a cover of it made by F1NG3RS.
I remember loving Guyver: The Dark Hero when I rented it at Blockbuster a loooong time ago, of course not knowing who David was at the time!
Same here! I first saw it on TV though on the Scifi channel, must've been 25 yrs ago or more!
Same that was the first time I saw him
Happy to hear that he enjoys MGSV. However, I’m sure when he reaches that jeep scene, he’s like, “I would’ve voiced the shit out of this scene” lol
Thanks Snake, you’re not too bad yourself.
One of my fave David Hayter performances was the cheesy 90s sequel to Guyver: Bio booster armor entitled Guyver 2: Dark Hero. For being a low budget film, they actually did have some awesome scenes, like when Sho (Sean in the American version) runs and jumps off a cliff in anime style and transforms into the Guyver, forward flips and lands 40 feet on the ground below in epic fashion.
Great podcast. 😊
Thank you so much! We'd love to have you on as a guest some time!

Let's go! I just finished MGS1, 2 & 3 for the quanteenth time over the weekend! Love David.
Great job, I loved the interview.
Good interview! I love it when David Hayter does an interview, he always seems so ready and chill, and as proven here, has a couple of cool and funny stories.
This is one of the best podcast episodes I’ve ever listened to. 😊
David Hayter was also the best 'Guyver'.
It's kind of interesting, I saw this podcast, and immediately a GQ thing on Kurt Russell came up, talking about his roles, and the first thing he mentions is Snake.
Excited to hear what he has to say about MGS V! Great timing
Wholesome Nitroid son moment that was neat
I love this man says, every single thing, even the dad jokes. Thanks David
I am a simple man. I see Metal Gear content or David Hayter, I click and subscribe.
Dave you work diligent that's great for me to hear. Thanks Dave for making the interview.
Kiefer having like 8 lines is not his fault, its the fault of the scenarist.
Awesome interview 👏
We need more David Hayter!
For a moment I thought this was an official channel of Kojima Productions, then saw David Hayter as an invited and knew this was not the case, he would not invite him
Got to meet David at AwesomeCon in DC and it was awesome he was really nice down to earth talked with a bunch of us waiting not rushed at all was nervous meeting him though and really happy with what I got signed. I'm a huge game collector and always on the look out for him at the cons I go to to see if I can get a Pic or another thing signed for my metal gear corner :D
Good job guys ! I love David hayter
THANK YOU DAVID!!❤❤ You're pretty good! Iconic!
What I wouldn't give for David to record his own voice tracks for a mgsv mod.
He sadly probably wouldn't have the time, even if he were to be paid for it
@@peefmcgoose2908 Venom has like ... 20 lines. He should at least do the ending cassette tape.
He has a cameo, anyone wanna spend 95$?@@Manly_McBeefington

David hayter is the absolute coolest. When I was 12 I found him on MySpace and asked him all kinds of questions and he was totally kind and put up with me. I cringe now thinking about it.

Great episode Nitroid, Fingers, Days, and Smatch.
David Hayter it's amazing Metal Gear Solid came out at such a great time
Great podcast.
Kept me waiting...WANTING! Welcome back Snake!
Ok, this is so good!!
The intro of this is like Metal Gear ASMR, I genuinely got tingles haha
Awsome EP
The wild thing is someone I know was working at the Frida theater in Santa Ana right after the Guyver showing and Q&A! She did a rehearsal for the Rocky Horror Picture Show later that same night
My son is only 2 but when he's older, I'm gonna get him to like and play all the MGS games!
Failed to mention his one role in a gundam anime and what his favorite hamburger is. Great interview and podcast.
The crazy thing is, the totality of Venom's in game (not tapes) dialog is only just a few minutes long. David could bang out the entire performance in like a half hour.
This is false bullshit that has been debunked over and over. Sutherlands total lines from MGV amount to 21 minutes. That's all the cutscenes and tape dialogue from GZ and TPP.
Had David Hayter voiced Snake in MGSV then the total spoken dialogue would have been the same. It had nothing to do with Surherland and Akio Otsuka, who was not replaced like Hayter was, speaks no more frequently in MGSV than Sutherland does. Its how Kojima intended it to be. He simply wrote less dialogue for Venom as a deliberate design choice, since he is revealed in the twist to have essentially been an avatar of the player themselves.
Who are you fighting here? @@supremeworld87
@@supremeworld87Having a silent protagonist was an excuse to justify the hefty fee of hiring an A lister. Kojima has always been desperate to break into Hollywood. anyway, like I said, the in game (no tapes) dialog amounts to a few minutes. Someone made a compilation, feel free to look it up yourself.
@@supremeworld8721 minutes of dialogue in the whole game? So OP was right? Just a few lines.. cry more?
@@angelsackson Lol, he's counting GZ and TPP total, too. I liked Kiefer's performance a lot. Was it worth having four minutes of actual cutscene character time across 80 hours of gameplay and an unfinished game? Absolutely not.
I'm a huge fan of David Hayter. It must be such a thrill to meet him and talk to him. I once met Quinton Flynn. Really nice guy.
"We're not gonna go ask about Metal Gear and voice acting, David. We have a different set of questions for you."
Me, just starting the podcast: "Please be about Guyver, please be about Guyver, please be about Guyver..."
Love hearing about Metal Gear Solid. Just started replaying MGS 5 after all these years and that game still plays and looks amazing! Also, I just bought a PS3 so that I can replay MGS4! I miss this series and hearing David H., as Snake--so iconic! I hope that Kojima new tactical espionage game that he announced is a return to the Metal Gear franchise and works with David again. Fingers crossed!
I do believe if the bar for our standards keep getting lower, A.I will find a substantial place within our creative mediums, including music.
and judging from when I was a teenager till now, the bar IS getting low
what a freaking cool guy man
Alright! ✌️👍, great convo.
Yeah, between 0’s and 1’s is both what AI generates and how humans define good/bad, agree/disagree, real/fake, low profit/high profit, green light/cancel, etc.
Perhaps, the undefinable quality of observation where 0’s and 1’s combine is the mark of expression for expressions sake.
David’s subtle nuisance with a character who is and is not the same character, in different ways, each role, is a testament to the overall question- of what is artificial or natural intelligence? ☯️
MGSCON 2 is going be awesome! I need one last signature and its cool I don’t have to be shy when asking DH for one.
awesome :)
i think it's kind of sad to see everyone throwing Kiefer's performance around the place, despite the lack of voice lines that most complain about i really think Kiefer's performance fits better for the more serious tone that MGS V has in comparison to David's
Given the fact that you couldn't even play as the real big boss, a different voice for a body double is fitting. The game didn't feel like a true metal gear that much anyway. The whole time it just seemed kinda forced to exist, MGS4 was my true ending to the series
I actually thought Hideo himself was gonna interview David.
Damn. This guy's pretty good.
Let's go!!
One thing I always felt was that Kiefer's voice sounded like the perfect in-between of David Hayter & Richard Doyle
"It's forever in there."
I would still love to see a David Hayter and Kiefer Sutherland in remake of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake obviously the remakes has to be loose adaption and some rewrites if Konami did remake those games into one big Metal Gear game it wouldn't be a bad move if they brought David Hayter on as one of writers it would ease the pressure off them little bit of doing a new/remake of og Metal Gear games without Kojima
*Vinnie Jones voice* Pretty damn good lads!
love it

SNAAAKE! David Hayter the G.O.A.T
I love this podcast so much 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks for listening! 🙏
After a 14 hr round trip to a different state and a couple iterations of using obtuse sounding gps apps...i think a Hayter voice version would be a nice change of pace!
The X-Men screenwriting, museum cop, Guyver himself
You really should have done this entire interview over a Codec with David Hayter doing his Solid Snake voice or both his own voice and Snakes voice.
Both your faces on the Codec too.
guyver should get more shine, not necessarily just dark hero (or mutronics which isn't anywhere near as good) but the property in general. the manga went on hiatus years ago, the original anime series was only short (12 episodes i think?), and the 2nd anime series was cancelled after its first season, so it's completely stagnant at this point which is a crying shame. so many cool concepts & designs, great worldbuilding and the guyver units themselves are just awesome. in my head i sometimes imagine a guyver fighting game made by arcsys (of blazblue, guilty gear, dragon ball fighterz etc) and it just looks badass. i've had similar thoughts about devilman actually, the similarly large cast & cool creature designs would translate really well into a fighting game, and outside of the crybaby netflix series (which was great) devilman is in a similar kind of limbo. again, a real shame. always great hearing david talk anyways :)
Heyyyy!!! Another child of a Highlander fan!! Connor here 🤘 reel glad my folks weren’t fans of something else and called me spock, willow, and or anakin 😂
Mgs5 only needed a urban area and more costumization …and mod support ….that game is awesome
He sounds like Adam Scott in the most accurate way
The ONLY voice for Snake!!! And I’ve had a crush on Nicole Kidman since Batman Forever. That was a year or two before MGS.
Still the best Snake AND Lupin for me.
I love him
Kidnap me? Dude I’m the one with the trunk lol
NGL I dont mind Kiefer, I thought what we got was good. But obviously David Hayter is David Hayter
0:36 HE SAID THE THING
" thats how kids communicate now, through memes"
*Me suddenly having MGS 2 end game codec flashbacks with roy and rose* 👀👀👀
Watching Guyver Dark Hero is fun, especially when a little bit of "Solid Snake" peaks out lol.

This part cracked me up 42:40
I don't know, it sounds like a parody of Kiefer Sutherland haha, shame we did not get David to voice Venom or at least the real Big Boss
Kiefer is great for venom and big boss too in my opinion but I wouldn’t mind him to voice those characters.
Started from the bottom now we're here
Imagine david playing snake in a movie and boss being the lady from the mission impossible
We need a new guyver movie

*SPOILERS*
I've always thought that because its not Big Boss, but Venom Snake was the reason Kojima changed the VO, this would have made so much sense, however
Continued: the fact when Big Boss is revealed in the Epilogue and its not David Hayter speaking pissed me off more than words can describe.
@@Louis360I thought Kiefer was great it’s crazy that soo many people don’t know why Kiefer spoke a few lines let alone why he was hired. People are just mad that David was not able to voice anyways am not hating but people saying that Kiefer just dumped the budget of mgsv is stupid. Kojima wasted too much money on the rights for music, motion cap technology, silent hills and fox engine.
@cantsuggestareasonablename9101 That's exactly what I was eluding to, I'm a huge Keifer fan being a 24 fanboy. My point is that after the reveal in the epilogue with the real Big Boss it would have been *chefs kiss* if David had voiced the real Big Boss. That may have been the original vision but we all know what happened towards the end of MGS V development.
how cool would it be if david hayter returned for PHYSINT
Re: MGS-V -- David hit it on the head. Kiefer, as good an actor as he is, plays "Boss" for a few days. David, on the other hand, has his whole DNA within Snake.
David, as we all know, is practically Snake. For the longest time, Snake even seemed modeled after him.
Gameplay-wise? MGS-V reminds me more of a series of "field problems", crafted in open world. It's not really an MGS to me. It's just "in name only", as MG always had a feel of a series of dungeons with plotlines.
So glad this isn't a Spotify exclusive podcast anymore, I will never give them another cent.
It never was?
@@KojiProNetwork sorry I was confusing this with Kojima’s “Brain Structure” podcast.
