It's only closing because the Palace Theatre needs to go under renovations.
CreepyKarpy that isn't true. The weekly gross of the show have been published, it simply was not selling enough tickets to stay open. The production was capitalized for around$18.35 million and it hasn't covered it's costs. The Palace Theatre renovation is a publicity spin. If the show was selling well, they would move.
I really hope they release an official video version of this like they did with Shrek. That would be so amazing

I saw this musical last April, on the 6th, and I CALLED it. I KNEW they would have a lot of nominations. This was my VERY first musical in NYC and I couldn't have chosen a better first musical to see in New York. I'm REALLY proud of them and I have a feeling they will win ALOT of awards 💚🍍

At least this show won one Tony and and won many Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards. I know we're upset about Ethan not winning, but he's young and has his whole Broadway career ahead of him. He has plenty of time to get more nominations.
Man, I feel like this show was really cheated when it came to the Tony’s
I now have more appreciation for musicals after having been in one. Long rehearsals, but once you get to the part where you can play it for an audience, it's the greatest moment ever.

No way. The Band's Visit is BY FAR the best musical of the season (and imo one of the best musicals of the last decade) Frankly, there is no competition for the tony this year since it's so clear that TBV will win.

While it didn’t win much, I feel like the Tonys saved this musical. If it had not been for all the nominations, it would have met the same fate as Escape to Margaritaville.
THEY WERE ROBBED
There is no way on the face of the earth that this deserved to win over ‘The Band’s Visit’. The latter was abeautiful, poignant and thoroughly clever piece of writing. ‘Spongebob’ was great fun but there’s nothing new or original happening on that stage. The show hasn’t achieved anything in its creation that should go down in history. It’s a fun night in the theatre but it’s not a extraordinary work.
Spongebob lost nothing. It's a very good and appealing show and I sincerely doubt its ticket sales will suffer because it didn't get the Tony. It was up against The Band's Visit, which has a wealth of artistic merit, not to mention it's a huge step forward for representation of Middle Eastern artists & stories in theatre. I'm sick of this "So-and-so WAS ROBBED D': " thing. So immature. And I love the Spongebob musical!

Just told my husband that we might go see SpongeBob the Movie the Musical on Broadway while he was on a conference call and he said "Yeah, euh euh" Sounds like a yes to me!!!
