- In August of 2020, three men went missing in the middle of the Pacific ocean. One rescue airplane came across the survivors' SOS sign on the beach of the small Pikelot island and that's what saved their lives! This is #NotWhatYouThink #NWYT #shorts

The funniest thing is that everyone would think you're full of shit 😂

Yes, yes that’s exactly how I would think someone would get lost at sea
In case you haven't noticed. The channel is literally exclusively shameless click bait. "It's not what you think" followed by some stock footage and a description of why it's exactly what you thought.
@@Sun-Tzu- it’s not rly clickbait I mean nothing he said here was wrong and it’s just a interesting story
@@frankiedeltoro1946 Bro he just explained how it is though. It's misleading/clickbait to say "it's not what you think" when actually it is
@@ZerolinGD he says it on every video, it’s not a huge deal

Turns out, its exactly what you thought.
Almost always what I thought. But I am getting up there in years.

If it hadn’t have rained they might not have found them. That’s incredible😮
@grumpybastard they wouldn’t have thought to look 100 miles in all directions cause not only where they looking on islands, they were looking on the water as well
@grumpybastard it’s from basic knowledge of looking for possible dead people
@grumpybastard it’s basic knowledge. Searching 100 mile radius from the point where they were supposed to go would take weeks or months.

@grumpybastard why are you even acting dumb if you already were
Amazing when everyone works together for a common greater good.
I mean, they ended up there EXACTLY how I thought they did 😂😂

Thank you for your kindness
That's a massive plane to do some recon lol
Often such large planes are used because of their long unsupported flight capabilities. They can carry a staff of dedicated observers, a navigator/communications officer(very necessary for assuring a thorough search pattern), and raft and supplies drop, and of course two pilots.
With large planes, possibly can carry 3+ pilots so they can get rest so they don't miss things
@@josephboxmeyer5730 I would think it's better to use more plans that are small. Therefore you got more eyes in different areas, like they did in WW2. But that makes sense since with gps you can track where you were and hover over an area for hours
@@undisputed1one Thank you for your thoughtful response. Actually, during both wars large float planes were used for search and rescue and for U Boot hunting. In the 40's the British and Americans and Canadians often used large and medium bombers for sub hunting and ocean patrol. Late in the war, we could both run interference for convoys one third way across the Atlantic. Small planes with fuselage tanks can do well, as you say, but a fourteen hour search pattern is pushing it. Yes, we can both think of Lindy. But he took gasoline, compass, sextant, coffee and sandwiches. Period. The big boys can do the fourteen, with a crew and survival gear to drop. And they can, if fuel remains, stay on station to provide an initial beacon for adequately equipped rescue craft. Personally, I think that a modernized floatplane is missing from our Coastguard hangers. The old leftovers have proved useful for scoop and dump fire fighting. But they have gotten too old. Anyway, thanks for talking. It sure is getting difficult to read this tiny screen, and to type on something designed for mice.
Big plane lots of range
Thank the Good Lord Above 🙏 for saving them. TY to folks that avoided the rainstorm and ran into their little Island.. God Bless you all. Amen.

Remind me to never go anywhere remote without a sat phone.
@kebab enthusiast I highly doubt that Starlink (direct connection to phones) will be perfect as it starts to roll out so a set phone is going to be still saying you should keep in your kit especially because they tend to be a lot more durable and waterproof than modern smartphones
@kebab enthusiast space x aka "global surveillance system"? 🤔
@@hansgans297 my dude have you heard of GPS?
@@hansgans297 even if you turn off your location feature on your phone if you are really being looked for they can still find you. The CIA has had documents unsealed or leaked about software they have the translate really close to the fictional Gods Eye softwares in movies. Just with legal proceedings they cant admit or use the data they collect through that unless they find a loophole to say they found it that way instead.
@@richardmillhousenixon I'm not so sure what starlink is but GPS satellites have no idea what you are doing. They send a signal out that various devices can receive, and when the device receives signal from multiple satellites then the device itself can calculate its own location & cannot report that location to the GPS satellite.
However when your device is also on a cellular network, the network knows what tower you are connected through, making it possible to determine a rough location from that info alone.
I bet that was such an unbelievably good feeling when they got rescued.

Sounds like an insane operation to rescue 3 men, also why use an air tanker for search operations?
Longer flight times maybe?
It was probably a welcome opportunity to do some flight testing or such
I dont see how they would allow such a costly operation to find 3 men otherwise
@@Askaly In America, every citizen is deemed invaluable and the coast guard or any other search and rescue agency will look for them, no matter what, until they are deemed dead.
Portland aircraft that already had a training Mission lined up so it was easy to modify it into a search. And surprisingly a large amount of aircraft in the Air Force's Arsenal have the additional mission of search and rescue and carry equipment to allow it

A B52?
Fighters don't have the endurance, nor enough crew to easily look in multiple directions.

Or how would this have turned out if those stranded guys had intended to write a long message extending half way around the island, just to be sure that it would be seen from anywhere. So they split up, working from both ends and the middle. The message should have read, when complete, ,"We have been here for a week. Please, We need everything. Don't leave us alone.". But when the plane flew over they had spelled only, "We have......everything. leave us alone."
