    I've got one just like it! Wasn't sure if i had a water pump problem so good to see yours running mine looks the same.

      Yep, this model doesn't come with a telltale for some reason. You can add one fairly easily by drilling into the water jacket, but I install a new impeller every year so it's not worth it for me.

      Had the same problem with mine I ran it in a bucket and didn’t see a water stream so I freaked out and dropped the lower unit changed the thermostat did a full cooling system flush but I did some research and saw this video only to find out I’m an idiot and it does have a stream hole lol

      Gabe White sooo why is it some of these pump water out of the 2 holes up high on the lower unit and some don’t ? Mike runs a little out the exhaust and that’s it.

    Cant believe how clean this motor runs . No smoke

    • @TheSteelerfool
      @TheSteelerfool 3 роки тому +1

      When they don’t smoke that’s an issue, either crosshatching on the cylinder bores has worn out, or the mix doesn’t have nearly enough oil, this engine should have a haze of smoke at idle

    These motors have a thru the hub water exhaust. The 2 holes are for exhaust relief at idle. Most do not have the overboard “pisser” stream but one can be added to the vent plug on top of the block.

    How do I adjust the fuel pump

    • @MakeItBetter1
      @MakeItBetter1  3 роки тому

      You can't adjust the fuel pumps on these motors. They are directly driven by pulse pressure coming from the crank case. If you're having issues with fuel pressure you'll likely have to rebuild the pump. Normally the issue is either with the diaphragm inside the pump or the one way check valves. The kits are relatively inexpensive.

  • @artbentley8594
    @artbentley8594 4 роки тому

    Does your motor need a water pump? Mine doesn’t pump water out of the two exhaust ports.

    • @MakeItBetter1
      @MakeItBetter1  4 роки тому +2

      In addition to sending water thru the motor to cool things, these also send water down the outer exhaust housing which is why you sometimes see water coming from the two exhaust ports. It is not an accurate gauge of how well your water pump and thermostat are working. Best thing is to use an infrared thermometer to check operating temperature since these motors do not have a telltale.

    • @Harlanmote
      @Harlanmote 3 роки тому

      The best thing to do is make sure a stream of water is coming out of your tell tell on the right back corner of your motor. If you run it hard like that it will be trouble.

    Hey there, So I've recently bought a boat that has this motor on it. It runs great on land but in the water when you throttle it up it completely dies nearly instantly. It will idle in the water just fine. Any idea of what may be happening?
    I'm in the research phase of troubleshooting so I haven't done anything yet. Any info would be greatly helpful. Thank you and thanks for sharing.

    • @MakeItBetter1

      I would start with the carburetors, then timing if that doesn't solve the problem.

    • @davidjessee7701

      Wire as it was running.. no noticeable difference.. .
      Turns out to be the crankcase seal on the bottom was leaking bad...plus the exhaust was clogged with years of carbon build up....

    • @davidjessee7701
      @davidjessee7701 2 роки тому +1

      Fuel , air , spark , compression is all you need .. right?
      Wrong!!!
      I have the same motor.. the bottom cylinder seemed not to be working.. it had great spark.. the carb was perfect. But when I pulled the plug

    • @stephenakel1192
      @stephenakel1192 2 роки тому +1

      It’s the carbs.. there’s a service bulletin from 1976 addressing the issue, my motor has the same issue.. you have to modify the carbs.. drills some holes bigger and replace the idle jet to a 32

    • @MakeItBetter1
      @MakeItBetter1  2 роки тому +2

      You are correct! There was a service bulletin for this motor that addresses this issue. It has been a few years so I can't remember the exact specs, but you basically have to bore 2 or 3 orifices out to a wider diameter inside the carb. I had to specially order the bits on amazon, but the repair was quick and painless when they came in.
