I saw this tour (he even had that swell red shirt on) at first avenue in minneapolis, minnesota, usa back in this time period. his recordings and live shows are great and he's still touring and sounding great!
Lloyd Cole is a few years older than me. He influenced my late 89s haircut and had me watch On the Waterfront, read Simone de Beauvoir and (with help From Robert Plant) start listening to Love (Arthur Lee records). Now I follow him on Strava.😂

I was cleaning up the garage, and came across a video tape of this concert. Poor quality,so I'm grateful that you've uploaded this. Thanks. I haven't thought about this for years (!) but as a teenage musician (from Australia) it was a great dream to play at the Marquee Club in London. I didn't have to go running around the stage, waving a flag like Bono,or getting the crowd to wave their arms like The Boss. A couple of hundred people at the Marquee Club was my dream gig. I can laugh about it now. Yeah, again, thanks for the memories.
@@SynRoss Thanks very much. I'm in the middle of compiling a bunch of songs from over the years. I've been an unsuccessful musician for over forty years. Not that I mind (anymore). I enjoy it. Forty years. "Ain't it funny, how time slips away" Kind regards.
Uma época q minha mãe havia morrido (85) apareceu em Curitiba uma rádio (estação primeira) q tocava várias músicas desta banda...a q mais me marcou foi James, sempre qdo a ouço difícil segurar as lágrimas...valeu a postagem!!!✋✋
Hello Danny. Do you remember the precise date? Because in the end credits here it is written 1984 but on Amazon, where this DVD is available for purchase they say it is a 1986 concert.
@@MultiSUPERLATIVO Hi Pierre, on the Wiki page for Rattlesnakes I found these two references to the Marquee gig: "Beautiful City" Live at The Marquee (5 November 1984) - 3:43; "Charlotte Street" Live at The Marquee (5 November 1984) - 3:40 so I think we can maybe conclude that it was indeed November 1984 and not 1986. Besides which, 1986 was my final year at university and I've no recollection of attending any Lloyd Cole concert that late. I did attend the Marquee gig shortly after Rattlesnakes was released in October 1984, and I attended with some school friends, so yes this would have been November 1984 when Lloyd Cole and the Commotions were still really "hot" on the music scene. But the concert was so loud, they had their amplifiers cranked so loud, I spent most of it with my hands over my ears (yes, a real lightweight I know!)
@@tropicaleasyrider1 Thanks a lot for sharing this. I really appreciated. It is a cool video. I like seeing them at Glasgow Railway station and the footage of the station and local people.
Where are all these talented bandmates? What a pity not having more work done. Definitely one of the best 80's groups. Later, I think Lloyd Cole lpst himself a bit with electronic arrangements and sad songs. Still time for a comeback.

Time travel and how now quality songwriting is now done.
A lesson.
Underrated artist. Love his music.
He's only underrated by those who haven't heard his music!
Don't forget the Commotions!
Saw him for his first solo album. The Commotions were missed!!!
Pro: At their concerts it's easier to get into the 1st row and you don't have to pay 200€.
Remember concerts? Feel old yet?
This takes me right back! I'd forgotten how searing their version of 'Glory' was.
Super groupe. Super concert.
i saw Italy beat Sweden in Toulouse in football 2016. I should have chosen to see Lloyd in Toulouse 1998 😢
@@MrBridgemania i understand .
This is f-n brilliant.
Songs from the 2nd record take on a new life. I like it.
Love the 80s Glasgow footage! I was too young to properly remember the mid 80s but makes me feel nostalgic for the late 80s/early 90s...
Great great video! Thanks!
Oh my God! So glad I found this 😁 a mini Lloyd Cole concert on a Friday night! ❤️❤️❤️
1986 concert is on BBC Radio 2 airplayer for 3 more weeks (14/6/24).
Love it!!!👍👍❤

I was at that concert at the Marquee in the eighties. They were LOUD. Yes I vividly remember Lloyd Cole wearing that red shirt too.

You are most welcome!
1984 makes sense from the amount of first album material in the set.
Excelente banda....sucessos como Charlotte Street, Hey Rusty e Forest Fire....grande Lloyd Cole and the Commotinons...
Genius!
Great concert at a concert hall symbol for rock and roll - The Marquee! I love the Commotions and I own their 3 albuns. Huge pop band!

Cuánta calidad musical y poética!
Love the 80's
Thanks. I have this on VHS but well, no working VHS player :) Good to be able to see it again.
I'm vaguely recalling seeing this on LaserDisc!
I've always liked his choice of songs to cover: Glory,Waterloo Sunset, Famous Blue Raincoat, The Slider, Vicious, etc.
magnifico... o melhor
nice, i also love lloyd coles song rich and jennifer she said
Su estilo es único. Es la banda sonora de mi vida.
Great concert from " Rattlesnakes "! Charlotte Street and Speedboat are two of my favorites!
I miss Lloyd Cole
He's not dead you know, he still turns up at weddings, bar mitzvahs, st patrick day parades and even rock venues.
Great show, Thanx 4 posting.

I wish I could accept change with the grace of Cole...

preciso copiar uma frase (antiga) de tom jobim, e imperioso. esta banda me traz ""lembrancas de anos velozes"", grande show. obrigado pela postagem.

The Amazon site says it was recorded at The Marquee in 1986.
eve Marie Saint...perfect
amazing
Part of a series of concerts shown on Ch 4 back in the 80's. Think they were on a Saturday, early evening, though i could be wrong.
hey Lloyd I'm ready to be heartbroken
Nice Television cover.
+Simon Williams 'Adventure' eraTelevision has an evident influence on Lloyd Cole.
The lead guitar is quality. tricky stuff
Very few bands sound so close to album as live
Duran Duran....❤
miaou
does anybody know what kind of guitar cole plays? that 12 string!
+AccountsSuck It looks like an Ovation. Not sure of the model though. Brian Jones of the Stones used to play one. . not a 12 string.
Vox Mark XII semi-acoustic
What year was this concert?
Recorded in 1986 at The Marquee London, and was produced and directed by Mike Mansfield.
ComoParkStudio ah it was '84, it says so at the end, guess the roman numerals threw you, huh?
K, so safe to say they weren't a great live band, but they were a great band nonetheless, and Lloyd's solo stuff has had his moments,
Wow at the Marquee. This footage is really valuable.
Pity that Perfect skin at 26:58 is sung a bit flat, no emotion.
I remember the UK press destroyed this guy, calling him a pretentious wanker for his poetic literary references....
