I was in an exchange program at the University of Bergen, Norway in 1986-87. About 20 cassettes got me through the dark and rain. Rattlesnake was one. GOD bless Lloyd Cole for great music
I was 18 when this came out and would go on in my travels later to have two lost weekends in Amsterdam. One in September 87 and then again in May 90. Best weekends ever.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! I was looking for this song for more than 35 years. I am argentinian, and in 85 I was 15 year´s old. I only had listened this song once, at a party. And remember how much fun it was to dance to it. For years I was looking for it, remembering the music, but not the lyrics. Thanks for posting it. Best wishes from Spain.
I spent over 20 years searching for this song too! I had it on vhs when the video was shown before the "he-man Christmas special" in 1984/5 and I loved it lol
So so so good!!!! 😮… he’s got it all!!!! I was dancing around my living room to this song.. and just for a moment.. I thought.. I was Lloyed Cole!!!!! 😊… I’m an 80’s throwback!!!! We were truly Blessed!!!!!😊
Just couple of years back like 2012 or 2014 8 came across this band from England 🇬🇧 with this neat song Lost Weekend. And I really liked this song. It has that special melody.
Lloyd is from Buxton in the heart of England's Peak district. The rest of the band are actually Scottish! Lloyd was at the University of Glasgow studying Philosophy when he joined up with the lads, the rest is history. 🙂
I thought I'd just comment on the song. "Lost Weekend" is one of my favorites because it reminds me of my own lost weekend in Amsterdam. I am sorry - I didn't realize someone passed away.
5 string guitar! It doesn't matter, it's not plugged in either.... hahaha... Love this song, it reminds me of being reckless at 15 and lost weekends when I was a bit older...
It took a lost weekend in a hotel in Amsterdam And double pneumonia in a single room And the sickest joke was the price of the medicine Are you laughing at me now? May I please laugh along with you? This morning I woke up from a deep, unquiet sleep With ashtray clothes and Miss Lonelyhearts' pen With which I wrote for you a lovesong in tattoo upon my palm 'Twas stolen from me when Jesus took my hand You see I -- I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it Drop me and I'll fall to pieces so easily I was a king bee with a head full of attitude Wore my heart on my sleeve like a stain And my aim was taboo, you Could we meet in the marketplace? Did I ever hey please, did you wound my knees? You see I -- I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it Drop me, and I'll fall to pieces Yeah too easy There's nobody else to blame I hang my head in a crying shame There is nobody else to blame Nobody else except my sweet self again It took a lost weekend in a hotel in Amsterdam Twenty four gone years to conclude in tears And the sickest joke was the price of the medicine Are you laughing at me now? May I please laugh along? I was a king bee with a head full of attitude With an ashtray heart on my sleeve, wounded knees And my one love song was a tattoo upon my palm You wrote upon me when you took my hand You see I -- I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it Drop me and I'll fall to pieces too easily Too easily Too easily
Lloyds been on an acoustic world tour for the last couple of years with his son. Brilliant show. Well worth catching. No doubt dates are in his website. I caught him in Kilkenny Ireland a few years ago. Loved it.
I'm so fortunate to have seen The Commotions live mid to late 80s at Buckhead Music Hall in Atlanta. And Lloyd with various musician support and solo. He seems to tour sporadically to small venues but covid ended that. Wonderful to age with him and witness his adaptability with various arrangements thru the years to do what he wants - low key - and continue to play wonderfully ingenious lyrics with various emotions ... happy - fun - sad - depressing. Long live Lloyd ...

Great band. Fortunate to see them live in Liverpool in the 80's. Rattlesnakes is without doubt a classic album.
I met Lloyd in Portugal back in the 80s. Lovely time to be alive then.
Beautiful and always takes me back in time...I was 19 there, 54 now
One of my all time favourites
First band i saw live. I was 12. So nostalgic...

"I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it"
Cool
He does have a certain charm I am sure
Music from this song was inspired by Iggy Pop, The passenger.
The rhythm section is like The Beat / English Beat rhythm section
@dazincalculation OK, thanks but I thought that he commited suicide because of a drug addiction. I guess that was just a rumor.
Looks like Lloyd is really happy to meet the legend that is Mike Reid lol
Definitely
missing a string on his strat?

Will somebody please tell me what happened to this group?

Stain and my aim ?? This is outrageous
Wait until you hear “Relax” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood 😂
Unplugged

Ian Stewart as Mick Jagger.
Odd. For a moment I thought Jimmy Carr had a second career in a nostalgia band.
lloyd cole much more talented than him!!
A cross between Jimmy Carr, Elvis, Michael St Gerard and Roger Federer. Great tune.
@wibblewobble85 God: the mutant offspring of Jimmy Carr and Chris Issak!
Jimmy carr?
His Father is Lloyd, Mother is Roger Federer. I thought everyone knew that.
"Lost Weekend" about a drunk.
Jimmy Carr..
Pity he changed his name to Jimmy Carr and started doing stand up. Great singer.
