We are asked all the time if we ever find Gemstones and the answer is Yes......so we decided to head out to a mine that is said to have a lot of beautiful aquamarine green Fluorite in some hydrothermal fissures. This mine used to be a Gold mine so you know we will be looking for that Beautiful Yellow metal too while we are in there. Fluorite shows up blue under a Black light so we will be using that to find them . For more vids of the mines of Oatman just wat this one ua-cam.com/video/YrwR6uY_NeI/v-deo.html and smash that like button. Smash it HARD !!!!

WoW In the first two minutes I had to look up some definitions. Love this guys enthusiasm. My friend Steve owns a mine in Southern Colorado. We went and camped at the base of the mountain. Next morning hiked up to it. We spent about a hour in there and chipped out some great pieces. I have a piece of Fluorite bigger than a softball, had so much it ripped my backpack on the way back down. I gave away some to my tow truck driver he was a native indian and drooled over it to make jewelry. Months later Steve, his kids and I went to the Rock and mineral show at the Western complex. We were walking thru and he said "Hey that's Fluorite from my mine" We were at least 10 feet away. I was like your crazy how can you tell? He said watch as we walked up to the guy. He was right next to the people who had the TV show that mines in Colorado. (Prospectors) He had a small 4x4 table set up- They started talking and it was very civil, they tossed back names and places and the guy admitted it was from the same mine. Blew me away. At the end Steve said "I don't mind if you take some but don't mine it out it's for my kids after I'm gone". The guy agreed and gave Steve a real nice polished piece from the table. As we were going thru the rest of the show I kept asking him how did you know? All I remember is he could tell by the shade of the green. Still blows me away.

@@Askjeffwilliams It was a great 3 day excursion. We stopped by his uncles huge farm on our way in. It had a natural spring about 20 feet from the back entrance. The highest quality H2O I've ever had. Through the back, what I would call a mud room was 6 freezers lined up. I did not know this but apparently if Deer or Elk are eating your crops you can kill them. We filled 2 igloo coolers and ate like kings.

Hopefully this made/ makes sense to whom ever reads it and I don’t sound remedial(no offense to ne1!!) or any of the such

I love that you give such detailed information and that you share your vast knowledge of geology. However, what we know today about geology is much more advanced then then what they knew back in the 1800s. And mining goes back thousands of years. So what was the "knowledge" they had back then that helped them find and follow a vein?

Just imagine all the hours of hand jacking just trying to find a mineralized vein. People don't realize that in order to make it profitable, they had to find rich deposits just to pay for the labor and materials to find it. Tough doesn't even begin to describe what mining was before pneumatic drilling. Great video and an amazing job of following the miners trail as they worked to find ore.

    Hey jeff
You have a great name, by the way
    Best name
Im also jeff haha my grandfather loved going out and panning and prospecting, rock hounding. I loved listening to his stories. He hurt his back when i was really young, so I never got to get boots on the ground with him. April 18th was a year since he passed. The last year was tough as he was my biggest role model. Went for a long hike today, checking out some exposed bedrock outcroppings behind his property out in blm a few miles into the hills, came back, and stumbled across your videos. I just wanted to say thank you for what you do as it reminded me of the stories he would tell. Your vast knowledge of geology has inspired me. I never subscribe to anything on youtube, but you definitely got me to hit that subscribe button looking forward to learning as much as i can. ive caught gold fever cause its all im thinking about. All my grandfathers panning and placer gold equipment burnt up in the wildfires here. So im looking into getting my own im gonna start with the gold monster 1000 and a pan/classifier. I know youre busy but any tips on tried and true equipment would be amazing. Cant be wasting money on bad equipment

WOW, I just realized I went from listening to Zager and Evans' In The Year 2525 and hearing about man's future to a video of a man explaining the past. I guess I thought that was pretty cool. LOL!!

Have a nice barite specimen I picked out of a tailings pile of an old silver mine in Colorado. Proud bonus from just wanting to check out a bunch of silver mines looked like. All of the entrances filled in so no views possible. Rats!

I would like to see those Oatman ghost riders in action. According to my niece her husband was one of them back many years ago. Unfortunately he has since passed away.

The boring company should be able to have a machine that pays for itself with this type of mining, then sell the holes you made for residential or other use. Always good to have a deep hole for an emergency.

It's always fun in Arizona away from the big cities. Still the old west in places. Nevada and Arizona. 40 years ago Idaho could have been with them but it's civilized now. Lots of folks moved in. The desert prohibits that. Wish I was younger. Sigh. It's faster horses, older whiskey, younger women and more money. I think if Tom t hall had known you Jeff he would a said more shiney ❤❤
