House Dance Tutorial, Philadelphia Style | If Cities Could Dance

Learn four flowy house dance moves - The Chase, The Heel Toe, The Swirl and The Jack - in this new #IfCitiesCouldDance #housedancetutorial with dancers and choreographers Kyle and Dinita Clark, the founders of Just Sole! Street Dance Theater Company and Funky Sole Fundamentals in Philadelphia, PA.
Before starting their own dance company and teaching program, Kyle and Dinita came up dancing in Philadelphia’s house club scene. They’ve been mentored by and shared rounds with legendary OG house and hip hop dancers, including Rennie Harris, Moncell Durden, Fabian Ballantine, Shachon Conway Kasey, and Dave Austin.

House is a freestyle dance with African diasporic and Latin influences. House culture dates back to the late 1970s, when DJ Frankie Knuckles remixed funk, R&B and disco records at the Warehouse in Chicago’s South Side for largely Black and brown gay partygoers. As house culture took root in other cities, Philly’s scene was distinct from its harder-edged Chicago, Detroit and New York counterparts, and its dancers have always moved a little more soulfully.
