- Riding WMATA Metrorail Silver Line (train model: 1982 Breda 2000 Series) from Washington Dulles International Airport IAD to Metro Center in Downtown Washington D.C. This train journey starts at IAD Baggage Pickup. At the baggage pickup area, I've walked towards to the Metrorail Station. The walk between the airport and station is around five minutes. Walking towards the station was easy since the "To Metro" sign was clear and simple. At the station, I've waited for the train to Metro Center Station in Downtown Washington DC (the train arrives every 10-20 minutes).
Silver Line is the only line that travels between IAD and Washington DC. The travel time between IAD and Washington DC is around 45 minutes.

1982 BREDA 2000 SERIES TRAIN:
Unbelievable that this train is 40 years old. This classic train is schedule to retire in 2024 and will be replaced by a newer 8000 Series Hitachi trains. I am amazed how clean and well maintained those trains are.

Great video. I usually fly into DCA, so I can take the Metro to downtown. I’m flying into Dulles instead in a few months so I can ride the Silver line extension.
There is another UA-cam plane spotter who does Dulles occasionally. Dulles tends to have dead spots in the afternoon.
Finally, you have visited my local area. I have suggested you to do this long time ago.
Great video Man! Have a wonderful weekend! I rode Miami Dade Transit last week
Thanks! Have a great weekend.
I thought I'd check back to see if this line was open yet...it seemed that it had been delayed for years, so I'm happy to see it's finally open. It doesn't look so popular, however...at least while you're riding it. I guess people still love their rental cars. Also, it seems like a pretty far walk from the baggage claim to the platform!
Oh wow, I remember when this was just a project for the future! I'm glad it got built out to Dulles!
I'm flying to DC at the end of July, but to DCA (Reagan National) which is on the DC Metro Green Line....my destination is the Walter E. Washington Convention Center which is ALSO on the Green Line, so I don't even have to change trains once. If I was coming in on the Silver Line, I'd have to change trains at least once for the long way and three times for the shorter distance.
I remember too!!!!!!!😊
Thank You.
Your video is well narrated. I like the way you use proper English words. Anyone who watches this show will understand every word you entered in your pictures and will understand everything you recorded.
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing! 😊
Excellent overview of the DC metro system. Thanks a lot!
This inbound/eastbound run seems to get up some decent speed
It does! Especially these days; WMATA recently won approval from its board of governors to operate the trains closer to the maximum design speeds. On certain straightaways the trains can now reach close to 70 mph. Previously the max was around 56 mph, but still much faster than sitting in the godawful traffic on I-66 or I-495.
I have used the tunnel to garage 1 after landing from an international arrival
I be coming in Virginia May 5 to 9th excited! Also get to ride the Sliver Line for first time! I used to be from the Area long ago before Sliver Line even existed. Now I live some where else.
I live in the DC area and LOVE riding pur Metro when I get the chance to!!!!!!! I was going to go into DC over the summer, but then I sustained a bad knee and ankle sprain at the Reston Wiehle East station, so I couldn't. I'm doing MUCH better now, but I am STILL recovering from my fall. I am in PT for it now and am recovering nicely though.
merci beaucoup
I think that the walk between the station and the terminal might likely be closer to 10 minutes. The architecture and and railcar stock bear similarities to MARTA and BART
In this video (which isn't sped up or edited with cuts) it was just under 5 minutes from the Departures (under 4 minutes from the terminal exit) to the station entrance - ua-cam.com/video/UUFNLpP61Y0/v-deo.html&ab_channel=BannedHeretic. But I suppose it'll vary for different people, especially on where the walk is started, if people have a lot of luggage with them or if they also have to take the elevators (lifts).
@@broman178 ok

Oh dear, i was here in march 2023 🙂
Coming from a bus-only city, having a chance to see what the system looks like before actually arriving onsite is very helpful!
QQ - looking at the metro map, there are stations like Federal Capital that are indicated by a circle with two “spokes” - does that mean that at that stop you can transfer between the three lines (silver, orange & blue) all heading in the same direction?
I’ve Never Ridden This Train I’ve written the one in Atlanta but I’ve never written this one. Is this the longest line and does this one have more stations? And is this a subway too?
While it is sad they will be getting rid of the old 2000 and 3000 series subway cars, they will be keeping the 6000s which looks, sounds, and rides exactly like the old ones. So the old trains being removed it’ll probably wouldn’t noticeable at first
Sound’s Like U Got Walking Boots On In The Video 2:20
That is correct. I like to wear my boots.
When are you returning to Florida?
I'm planning to visit in May.
I took the train 🚉 to downtown WASHINGTON DC TO GET TO 🏩 REST STOP TO SLEEPING 😴 IN BEFOREHAND TO MAKE SURE THAT I AM A BIT LATE TO THE BUS TO GET A POLICE MEMORIAL SERVICES IN TOWN.
How long did it take to get from IAD to Metro Center?
Almost an hour.
That is about consistent with my own experience. I live in Adams-Morgan so I would change to the Red Line and get off at the Calvert-Woodley stop. All told it took me about and hour and half "portal to portal". If WMATA wants to get people out of their cars, taxis and ubers, it has to be a faster ride. Why not have express trains, say, direct to Metro Center at peak traffic times. That is when the Silver Line would be most attractive to riders in a hurry to get to or from IAD.@@HOUExplorer
So I just Googled my question. The answer is that you need express tracks to maintain local service and introduce express service. That would mean 4 tracks on the Silver Line instead of just 2. Good luck getting that funded.
There are 4 elevators not 2
When the Metro train breaks down under the Potomac River: "I'm at the combination Virginia and Washington DC!"
I don’t want old trains!
That walk to the station takes longer than the flight from Frankfurt to Dac 🤔

WMATA needs major expansion and way more stops! The DC metro is pathetically underdeveloped.
Nah bruh, that’s way too far and way too much money, now they can’t expand that far because the dc metro goes far enough man
DC area is not very dense, this isn't London or Tokyo here you know. Most people live in low density suburbia where it doesn't make sense to build metro.
Underdeveloped for sure 😢
The only expansions I could see is to Leesburg and Gaithersburg.
@@dvferyanceits already in gaithersburg
i might see bowie honestly
Today i decided to take the silver line train from the airport to metro center and it took me two hours SMH. Silver line runs to McLean only at the moment then you have to take a shuttle from McLean to Ballston metro then take another train to go to Metro center or anywhere in DC 😢 this is a nightmare, worst decision I’ve made, I don’t think I will use their train service again. I see WMATA is always taking on step forward and two step backwards 👎
No I think you were caught during unfortunate service time. I remember at the time some Arlington stations were going through service which is why the silver line only went until McLean. Now the silver line will go all through dc so give it another chance.
