Your videos are essential for any first or second time visitors to DC. I learned so much that was very helpful before my trip last month (October 2022). There was no metro open yet from Dulles to the city and we took a taxi which was about $100. The metro is definitely worth it if you arrive within the service hours.
As someone who lives in the suburbs of DC, let me just say that it’s very nice to see a tour guide with a UA-cam channel providing very useful information about the area and how to get around. I’ll be sure to pass this video along to friends and extended family
Thank you so much! I have a 6 hours gap between a connecting flight at IAD, and your video is so helpful as a step by step guide to go to DC with the Silver Line!
Regan national was so convenient when I was the military 40 years ago, then the amendment was passed limiting the flight coverage area from Regan, our cable TV in the barracks was fed from satellite and the picture would mess up when a plane went by in its pattern.
Thanks for this! I will be coming back from FLA on Black Friday, and i want my brother to pick me up from anywhere BUT Dulles. Just one stop to Loudoun Gateway SubWay Stop.Easier on him and me. You Rock Dude!
img thank you so much for this wonderful detailed video. im coming from Ethiopia and this will be my first time not having a car ride from airport. this silver line station is so great to have!
I’m told you can also take the shuttle from Garage 1 (right next to the station) to the terminal. Might be helpful for folks with disabilities or a lot of luggage.
@@malihachoudhary62 The sign on the shuttle buses should say “GARAGES.” After you arrive at the station and get past the fare gates, go through the doors for Garage 1 instead of walking toward the terminal.
Flying into Dulles from the UK in February so great news the station has opened. Would love a video on how to get to the Udvar Hazy Centre as that’s on our itinerary. Thanks for the videos.
Very helpful - we have directs to DCA, BWI, and IAD. Nice to have the Metro all the way to IAD now - don't think it will ever go to BWI, but there is a link bus.
@@bettifly22 agree, but you first have to take a bus to get to the train station. I have done this several times, the bus isn't too bad, but it is another transfer.
@@bettifly22 the light rail comes directly into the terminal - that takes you to Baltimore. The bus to the Marc and Amtrak trains is okay - just another transfer.
You do a great job explaining and answering all the questions I had about transportation to and from Dulles to downtown. I've never been to DC before, and I am taking my niece and nephew for a weekend. I will look for more of your videos now. Thank you!
Can’t wait to utilize this service for someone who had to folk out 70-100 dollars to Uber during peak hours. I live along metro and this will save me so much money.
Hi! These videos are helpful as I am trying to plan our family trip to DC. I’m curious as to how families with special needs members maneuver through all of this. I welcome all tips and stories🙏🏽🤗
I love your videos, have been watching so many of them for our upcoming trip. Do you know if the 1 day pass or 3 day pass (WMATA) covers the ride from Dulles Airport to Washington, DC? Thank you.
as someone who lives in dc, any smartrip card, pass or regular, should let you in and out any station you choose to go to as long as you can pay for it. since a pass is prepaid, i don't see why you'd have a problem. i do recommend opting for a regular smartrip card over a pass though, since you can add and remove money from it any time through the app.
This is a very helpful video, but it should be made clear that passengers arriving on international flights (see exception below) must clear passport control and claim baggage at international arrivals, not in the main baggage claim area. This does not apply to passengers arriving from countries with pre-clearance. I believe only Canada and Ireland have the latter.
Needing advice, please!!! We will be visiting in August with our kids, who are 8 and 5. My husband visited years ago, but it will be mine and the kids first time. Since we will have luggage for four, is the Metro a good idea, or would a shuttle/ car service be bette??
Hi! it’s a very beneficial video for me, thank you for that. I’ll go to the Union train station from Dulles Airport tomorrow. Is there anyone to know how can i go to Union Station with the metro?
Just wondering if you need to tap the smartrip card when transferring from Dulles metro at Rosslyn station to silver line? also, do you need to tap out everytime you leave the metro?
where can be the closest luggage storage to keep my 2 bags while i explore the city? i will be arriving to Dulles Airport and planning to take the metro to DC.
I'm going to Potomac Maryland to visit my cousin, could this be a good option? What is the closest stop to Potomac Maryland? I'm travelling from Europe and it seems that the taxi and uber fees are very high! TIA.
Hi! I will be traveling to D.C in May, I just realized my trip falls on Memorial Weekend, are the fare prices different during Holidays? I am enjoying all your videos. Thanks for making them!
as someone who lives in dc, the fares do change depending on the day & time you ride + how far you go, but as far as i'm aware aren't changed for holidays.
The exhausting never-ending walk from Metro station through the dreary corridors to airport terminal is the worst airport connection I've ever encountered. What a waste of taxpayer money when a direct underground interchange would have been so much more customer friendly. I'll stick to convenient DCA which is less than 20 minutes from my home in Dupont Circle by Uber, Metro or Lyft. THANKS for informative video.✌
Great video👏🏽… Is there lockers/ storage at Dulles for luggage? I have an 7hr layover there. Just want to take the metro to the White House, take a pic & comeback. Of course without my luggage.
Hi Rob, I remember you from Wolters World. My dad surprised me with a F&S mini road trip in the states next month leaving and returning to DC with our last days being in DC. We have to return the car to airport, is the Metro easily accessed from car rental area or will it require going into airport etc, to get back into the city?
Check with the rental car company to see if their shuttle stops at Metro but likely you will have to walk though the tunnel to the airport pickup and get the rental car shuttle there.
Hi Rob! I have a 4.5hr layover in 2 weeks. Would you recommend going into DC to grab a quick glimpse of any monuments or recommend staying near the airport (air space museum/shopping)?
It's actually better to go to the innovation center and take a 15 mintue bus ride to the Air and Space Museum in Northern Virginia than go through Dulles. Also MARC/VRE should stop at Dulles.
We will be camping at Fairfax Lake for 2 weeks and would like to use the train to get around. We also want to take the train to NYC, is that doable for a day trip?
I am not an expert on NYC but speaking personally if I only had one night in NYC I would pick a hotel relatively close to Penn Station so that you don't waste time traveling to and from the station to leave and arrive. For a visit so short you want to maximize time as best as possible.
I just looked up how long it would take to get from the Closest Metro station to the Udvar-Hazy Center. 4.9 miles by foot and an hour and a half. Wow, that's disappointing. There is a bus that connects the Innovation Center Metrorail Station to the Annex in a 15 minute drive, so that's a little better, but it looks like dream of a metro station ride to the annex is dead.
Too slow. Dulles to downtown Washington DC used to be one hour by car with regular traffic. Shanghai airport to downtown on train travel time is 10 minutes, used to be one hour by car.
You weren't taking the Washington Flyer bus that for $5 went nonstop between Dulles departures level and Wiehle-Reston East (the previous Silver Line terminus)?
I normally take the Green or Orange lines... tomorrow I'm just going to say ..F it ..and ride that Silver Line out to Ashburn . Sunday when I was finished shopping at Eastern Mkt in SE we got on Eastern Market station after seeing 2 Blue Line and 1 Silver Line cars come finally an Orange line came ( mind you I had bags and a knapsack full of groceries)we got on the train only to have a voice come over the intercom telling us along to get off and wait for the next train to New Carrollton 😂
Can't wait to take the ride. I hope they transform one of the many car lanes to an express train lane to get to the city center faster.
That would be awesome
That would be cool.
