- Full step by step build for Tamiyas 1/48 IL-2 Sturmovik (Shturmovik). I enhanced the already nicely detailed base kit with some Eduard photo etch for the cockpit and the landing flap addition.
Eduard #48739 (landing flaps)
Eduard #49607 (cockpit)

The kit was painted with Tamiya acrylics and I followed the paint scheme in the instructions with the exception of the interior. After I painted it XF-22 (RLM Grey) I decided this color didnt look right and didnt have enough bluish tint. I mixed my own color:
XF-24 : 1
XF-21 : 1
XF-23 : 2

Such an outstanding model! It almost looks like someone small-sized the actual plane.
Thanks!!!!
Now that's a pretty dam good looking build
Thanks!
Love your work!!
You killed it. Liked & subbed. One of my favorite rides in the IL2 flight sim series.
Thanks! I used to play that game a good bit
@@ScaleModelAssassin Please make a Hawker Tempest mk 2 of Pakistan Air Force which was the first fighter of the country.
Love from Pakistan.
That is an excellent built. Great to see the stretched sprue method for the antenna presented so well. Lovely looking Il2.
+ChancerNW thanks! Glad you found it useful. Always a struggle to balance the entertainment of the build vs. the helpful "how to" parts that can get pretty detailed.
@@ScaleModelAssassin Forty years as a builder, model magazine writer and editor, and museum builder, yet when I saw the perfect ease with which you stretched and applied that sprue, I was truly humbled.
@@thomasbell8800 Thank you very much! To be fair, I probably edited out a couple failed attempts lol
Great work!
Thanks!
I've always wanyed to build a Sturmovik. Now i know of a great kit and good accesories. Love your work.
Thank you! I enjoyed this one a lot. It's a large plane...the flying tank
Scale Model Assassin It ain't no cheap, but the interior detail really looks good even without the upgrade set. Right now I'm building tje 1/48 eduard typhoon. I tell you, it's like two other fighters in every dimension.
Yep I'm a big fan of the Eduard cockpit details. When I set this plane next to a Japanese zero it looks like 1/48 vs 1/72 even though they are both the same scale.
You did a really nice job! Looks like a great kit.
Thank you!
@@ScaleModelAssassin Have you got a t 6 harvard or an f 16 or a tiger moth or a hawker tempest mark 2
??
I've got an f16 in my stash that I'll build soon
@@ScaleModelAssassin Can you make a Pakistani F 16 ??
@@omerashraf9357 Im probably just going to use the stock decals that came with the Tamiya F-16 kit. US markings I think. Sorry!
Lovely- but would have been better if you'd cut the red star decal on the tail in half before applying . I made the same mistake when I built this kit, but when I later built a La5fn, I cut the tail star in half and applied to the tail and rudder separately, lining them up individually. Got a much more realistic fin- rudder joint. Otherwise- your technique and skills are streets ahead of mine. Heck- I still brush paint and build them straight out of the box.
Love it!
nice job
Thank you very much!
Sorry for missing out on this. I've got this same kit in my stash, so I like to view other build for some incite. Excellent pit build. What does it read on the side of the fuse? I should have bought a Buick? Great build, like the added touch with the flap wells. Congrats!
No worries. Its nice to hear from you on each build. I wasnt planning to do the flaps but I bought the Big Ed package for the cockpit & exterior details and it came with flaps too so I figured I may as well use them. The best explanation Ive found online for the side text is this: "...pilot is the Kazakh origin Ivan Pavlov, two times Hero of the Soviet Union (HSU) decorated, flown 237 mission. The aircraft was donated by the people of his native village together with 3 other airplanes. This states the script on the starboard of fuselage." Basically a hometown hero.
I figured, it's usually a village sponsor, or a statement of "Hero of the USSR". Just makin' a joke. I think you're a good builder, so I like watching your vids and telling you so. Good luck with future builds. You'll only get better with each build.
English is better for me to understand but I use a translator. I used the Tamiya colors that were written in the instructions
@@ScaleModelAssassin Ok, thank you for information
reverse your blade tip when removing flaps etc. cleaner cut
Ah yes, should save me some sandpaper usage
A gorgeous build. Whose PE parts did you use?
Thanks! The cockpit and flaps are both from Eduard
Could you tell me what 3 colours where used on the upper side?
Thanks
I used Tamiya colors XF-24, XF-58, and a mix of XF-52+XF-59 5:1 ratio.
@@ScaleModelAssassin thanks a lot!
Hello Sir I'm sorry to bother you that was a beautiful looking kit. I was wondering if you would do a tutorial on how to straighten out the decals that was overcrowding the rudder aeration of the plane?
Thank you for your time
Sincerely
Allan
I use Microset (blue bottle) when I position the decal and that makes it easier to move around. Just slop it on before and during your positioning of the decal. When youre happy with the position, use a cotton swab to remove the excess liquid. Once its dry, apply Microsol (red bottle) and that helps the decal adhere to the surface. I dont have the raw footage anymore to do a more detailed tutorial, but if you check out some of my other plane videos, towards the end when I apply the decals, hopefully you can pick up some more tips.
Do it lavockhin la5 and la7 plece
what does that say on the side
I cant read Russian but I did find a short description of what it generally says...unfortunately not a direct translation: "...pilot is the Kazakh origin Ivan Pavlov, two times Hero of the Soviet Union (HSU) decorated, flown 237 mission. The aircraft was donated by the people of his native village together with 3 other airplanes. This states the script on the starboard of fuselage."
Wouldn't that paint a target on your side
Certainly doesnt help the camo theme!
"To countryman, hero of a Soviet Union c[omrade] Pavlov from working people of t[own] Kustanai" ("Земляку Герою Советского Союза т. Павлову от трудящихся г. Кустанай")
Cool! Thanks for the translation
Stop making me feel bad about my IL-2...
Lol I'll take that as a compliment!
The Russian planes.
Nice Russian aircraft.
Thanks!
