Restoration of Georgian SABER - THUNDER of Mountains

- Hi. Today the restoration of a Georgian saber with a unique pattern on the blade and "Gurda" stamp. The process took about two months and a huge amount of effort. Because most of the technique was done by me for the first time! Well, let's get to the restoration.
The first thing I did was remove the "hilt". Then I cleaned the blade with a rust remover and moved on to creating the sabre garde.
The saber's sword guard.
The guard was laser-cut from 4mm steel. After a lot of manipulations (because it was the first time) I welded two parts together and started machining. After machining and giving it the look I wanted, I moved on to the handle of saber.
The handle of the saber.
I cut the handle from dry beech wood. I attached it to the tang of the sword and to the new guard. Next I trimmed the hande and glued it with genuine leather. I darkened and aged it.
The scabbard of the saber.
The scabbard I also made of dry beech wood, turned, shaped. I made the fittings from two millimetre steel and one millimetre steel. Here too it was not easy because I had no experience so far. The scabbard at the end I glued with natural black leather.
Leather suspenders.
Next I moved on to the creation of a leather shoulder harness. I made the suspension from thick natural leather. After that, I put it together. I sharpened the blade of the saber.
I hope you enjoy this restoration project. Please don't forget to share this video.
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

😍
You are unique. You show mistakes - no one does that. You can keep the old look. You are the only restorer on UA-cam who does unique things without modern upgraded tools. Such tenacity and commitment. I take off my hat sir. Thanks a lot, I wish I could put 1,000,000 likes.❤
Thanks!!
Knew this was going to be a special project. When we heard the ring as metal was tapped. You continue to amaze us with your ability and standards of craftsmanship
😍
I was excited when I heard the blade ring the first time. To me that's a sign of very, very good steel.
😍
Yeah, I was personally surprised
Alot of work went into this piece. Your desire for authenticity is to be applauded sir. Yet another piece of art and history preserved
😍
Glad to read ^_^
Ey, Jack @$$ No part of war is worth preserving. Time for those part of the past to be left there and forgotten.
😂

I know it's most difficult project at this moment
Hello everyone, The more experience a Mechanical Engineer has, the lower the cost. You work beautifully. Great job. A lot of effort has been put into this work. Another preserved work of art and history

amazing work man.
don't put yourself down about the mistakes, happens to the best of us, nothing more to it.
keep on keeping on.
Thank you for your attention and understanding
It’s easy to think “a sword is just a sword” until you see all of the unique blades you’ve so successfully restored, giving a little ol’ American like me a glimpse into history far older than my own.
Well said!
Wow. This is wonderful, Alex! Such patience, appreciation of the history of this saber, and the learning of new skills, so you could do it justice, resulting in something absolutely beautiful. Well done!
Hi! Thank you very much for your attention and for everything! ^_^

I really like the way that you created the pommel cap.
As usual another excellent piece done
One of your best, many thanks. Looks like you really love that sword
Thank you!
A real labour of love. Thanks for sharing this with us. I cant help thinking of the amazing Georgian Sword dance when I see this. To hear the ring of the sword is beauty at its sweetest note.
Thank you so much!
@@ScrewsAndTools The Georgian sword dancing is unequalled and the exquisite ladies move so gracefully like angels on a cloud. ❣
@@lameesahmad9166 Thank you so much ^_^
@@lameesahmad9166 Georgian dances are taught from childhood and put in a lot of work.
@@ScrewsAndTools I am absolutely sure that must be the case. The speed, accuracy and timing as well as the dancer's ability to move their body with such flexibility surely has to be taught from a young age before the body settles into its adult form. The Russian ballet dancers and gymnasts are also known to start at a very young age. But I will make one observation and that is that the dancing of the Georgian ladies is very satisfying to me. The way they move seems as impossible as the male sword dancers moves, but their dance also gives such a beautiful dignity and place of honour to women. As a Muslim woman myself I really can identify with that and to my very soul I appreciate it so much. It preserves the special place women deserve in a world where Western women have lost the core ingredients of self respect.
One of my favorite restorations ❤
Thank you!!
Without a doubt the most impressive restoration you did up to date. You are the only restorer on YT who manages to keep the character and history of every piece you restore. I'm, as always, in awe.
Thank you very much, it's very nice to read and know that not everyone but some people understand and appreciate how you do. ^_^
I think it is your best work yet. And you only have museum pieces to teach you the way of the original masters.
Thank you)
Best one yet, and I've watched EVERY video of yours! Great work!
Lots of work. But a very beautiful restoration as a result of it.

A beautiful saber, a work of art!
Greetings from Spring Texas.
Very very very nice restoration sir.
It was great watching all your steps.
Old school all the way. You followed traditional workmanship.
You rescued a great blade & took many pains to make it a full sword again.
Simply outstanding sir. I salute you.
It is perfect.
Greetings to you! Thank you so much for your interest and attention. I am so glad that my videos are being watched so far away. Yes, I try to stick to the techniques of the old masters, though I'm still learning. It takes time, but it's interesting.
Im also drinking tea watching this 😊 fantastic work as always, impressed at how you learn as you go along with the crafting of these items, WELL DONE!

Extremely good work! It looks like an authentic relic, one might not even know you made most of it!
Such a wonderful result! You are truly a great craftsman!
I admire your dedication.
In my eyes one of your best jobs ❤
Outstanding 🎉
That one must now be your masterpiece!
Beautiful craftsmanship
It almost looks like a Damascus pattern I love it
Alex you have the patience of a saint. If it was me those scabbard fittings would have flown out the window.
hahaha)))) so good joke!
The harness system was nicely done
The harness work was well done, too. Good work!
Another fantastic job, really like the scabbard work
Most excellent work! I have been watching you for about a year, and I have seen your skills and techniques improve. Therefore, the end result tends to come out better. As a collector and restorer myself, I congratulate you!
Thank you very much for your kind words!
Beautifully done. My favourite yet. The amount of thought and work I see you put into these projects gives me an idea of the sweat and toil the artisans of old expended, without power tools, to create these weapons. Looking forward to the next one.
You're right 100% good noticed, thanks
Sabre! I love it! I'm so happy you chose this blade 😁. And I am so sorry that your vice broke. I know I ask for sabre restorations alot, so I feel bad that happened 😟. The sword looks magnificent! I love that you found one with engravings. A few of my antiques have some that are still visible. The scabbard and fittings all look great! This is definitely one of my top 3 favorite restorations. Keep rescuing these poor old blades 🙏 ✨️🗡✨️❤.
Thank you so much for huge feedback ^_^
@@ScrewsAndTools 😁
3. Is this video because the sabre is engraved and you handmade everything else on the sword.
2. Is the Georgian broadsword because I enjoyed watching all the wire wrapping you did on it.
1. Is the ruined Cossack Shashka because there was a freaking hole in the blade, and you fixed it!!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I like the work, Greetings from Serbia
Very impressive. Well done.
Back to the era where it was created, you’re gonna be the greatest swordsmith ever!!
Fantastic work.
Nice work to save that great old blade and what it represents to those who understand !
