Fluke Networks MicroScanner 2 TDR Lan Cable Tester

Short review of Fluke Microscaner tester. Nice design, build like a tank. Has decent TDR cable length to open, short tester. It has a good network wiremap. Button has this weird noise. My unit has some issues with the terminator adaptor. Sometimes it doesn't detect pin 8 - but it's old and used a lot. If Kurt electronic KE7100 had active testing I would prefer KE7100 over this tester. But right now this is simply better coz it has active testing capability.

TDR -Time Domain Reflectometry. Complex technology - in our case copper wire length and characteristics measurement. Basically tester with TDR sends a lot of pulse signals true twisted pair, coax cable or electrical cable, starts timer, at the end of cable reflection, signal comes back to tester, timer stopped, signals send and received results compared. From this info tester with TDR can calculate and report some important cable characteristics like: short, open, split, cable length, .. ODTR Optical Time Domain Reflectometer. So it is technology to measure length and find faults for optical cables.

For the price I was hoping it would tell you the PoE voltage having to disconnect the cable to find out the class is a little odd, looks like the Klein Scout pro 3 is a better deal if you mess with coax and PoE frequently.

Fluke Microscanner 2 is very old tester produced in year 2000. Not so good in POE department. All this time pretty much no change. BUT.. It is TDR meter, so it shows - calculated reflected signal - of cable length.. And its more less accurate. Klein Scout Pro 3 measures resistance of twisted pair.. It doesn't have TDR - less accurate and comparable to cheap aliexpress testers.

when connected to 100Mb base network it will show 100Mb, if connected to 1Gb it will show 1000Mb..
