- Hey everyone! Today I’m crabbing off the rocks at Caspar Beach RV Park! Going after some Dungys! For bait I’m using squid and Herring both of which I got at the Caspar Beach store! Great people in there go check them out! They have all your needs covered.

Great video you did well the kelp crabs do have the sweetest meat but you definitely gotta get the big ones cause they don’t have a lot. I know that shoreline full of sand, but it’s very beautiful. Great job.

Kelp crab. Thank you for the video. I take my wife to fort Bragg a lot to visit her cousin who lives in Caspar. Now I need to find this beach. That second crab you pulled up was a Dungee. Looks like I could harvest not only nice reds and maybe an occasional dungee but that looks like a great area for rockfish and lingcod.

probably if you launch your snare 40 yards from the beach left side. its should be full of sand for dungees.. That a kelp crab a comes from cresent city

Do u crab on just high tide? Ever crab on low tide?
This was all filmed on low tide. Once the tide started coming back in the bite died off. This particular spot needed low tide to be able to walk out there on the rocks. Personally I catch them on both tides.

Typically slack tide is always the best crabbing. That's when they forage the best, not having to fight against a incoming or outgoing tide current. Found your channel searching for crabbing near Fort Bragg, thanks. Will check this place out for sure. We do a lot of crabbing in Bodega Bay, CA and various spots along the Oregon coast. You can't beat crabbing in Oregon, pot fulls of Dungee keepers on every pull. Worth the road trip!

@@Captainskot I enjoy cast snaring also at Bodega Bay . I am thinking about trying some sand beaches slightly north like Salmon Creek beach , wright's Beach and even Goat Rock . Have you had any luck off these beaches? Does the course textured sand on these beaches not attract Crabs like the muddyer bay provides. I'm learning , so would appreciate your experience.

@@houstonsells1484 If I'm desperate to eat crab all is fair. I would never take a crab with eggs, actually never caught one with eggs showing . They must be hunkered down and not trying to eat.
Acknowledging and returning a female rock crab because of her sex, yet gleefully keeping an unacknowledged female dungy with just one claw?

Peace offering: Might improve your catch if using more than one snare per rod. There are currently no provisions within Fish and Game Code and/or California Code of Regulations, Title 14 that prohibit using more than one snare per rod-confirmed by CF&W License Program Analyst (email address available on CDF&W website).
Though using too many per rod can of course increase possibility of losing snagged snares or breaking rod.
Not saying I know it all because I for sure don’t but I was a commercial crab fisherman for 3 years I know a male dungy from a female. As for the multiple snares I didn’t know that. Thank you. That’s about the cheapest snare you can get as well I’d like to try a better one. Tight lines!

. Nobody that I see uses two traps on one line . Traps too close being redundant. You can use two , three, four rod reel and snares that will surely catch more.
