Thanks for watching and the support, Marc! The Q is an awesome grill. Fortunately, the things I dislike about the Weber Q aren't a dealbreaker, as there are inexpensive workarounds. Happy grilling!
Thanks for the info. I'm picking up th q2200. It was $20 more the dome looked higher and it comes with the temp guage. I did also pick up the 2 griddle accessories. Can't wait to get some street tacos going on it.
All the Qs are good, but I think the Q2200 is a great choice. Had I done my research back when I bought my Q I would have bought the Q2200 instead. Street tacos sound great, let me know how those turn out! Thanks for watching!
Here is in Australia, purchase of the Q with the temp gauge is only in the Webber store. If purchasing outside of Webber such as a hardware store you will not get the Temp gauge. There recommend letting it heat for 10mins before using, and always cook with the lid down.
Hi Sharon, thanks for watching! Yes the longer I am on YT, the more I realize the US and OZ markets for grilling are so different! The ones with temp gauges are very available in the USA, in fact these days it's a bit unusual for me to find the Q1000 or 2000 in store.
For $20 more I highly recommend the Q2200. Not only do you get the dome thermometer but the electronic ignition (much more reliable than the one in the 1000/2000 units). Overall the Q are excellent. With a 6 inch smoker tube you can turn them into a decent pellet smoker.
Thanks. I have a Weber Go-Any-Where gas grill for camping with a cooking area of about 10"d x 16"w and find that it is not big enough for when family come to eat. I supplement it with a Jumbo Joe charcoal grill. At home I use a 3 burner Weber gas grill with SS cooking grates. I really like how you showed how easy the Qs are to clean up.
The Go-Any-Where looks like a fun little travel charcoal grill, but yeah, it is definitely quite small. I have the Char Q which is the same size as the Q2000... but it wasn't in production long because nobody wanted a "portable" charcoal grill that was that expensive (I think they were almost $200USD new). Thanks for watching!
I liked your honest review on the Q2000. I am thinking of buying the Q2200 just to have the temp. gauge. Overall I don't think one can go wrong with any of these in their range.
Yes back in the day if I did my research before buying, the Q2200 is totally the way to go for just the extra $20 USD. I did end up drilling a hole in my Q2000 so that I could put a temp gague in the lid. That said you're right you can't go wrong with any of the Q models. Thanks for watching!
Here in Oz, you can buy them at two types of outlets: basic models (without the higher lid and gauge) pretty much anywhere but the higher lid and gauge models only from authorised specialist retailers. Not a bad review as such, but for the indirect cooking you forgot to cut slits into the foil. Better yet, spend a few dollars and buy the pre-formed aluminium trays and use their HD trivet. I use a gauge for my Q200 (yes, it is an old version) and even though my Q320 has the gauge built in, it is better to use a probe in the meat so you are recording the temp inside the meat and not just on the outside of it.
Very interesting about how the Q's are sold in OZ. There doesn't seem to be much distinction here in the USA other than saving $20USD when shopping. Re: foil - you're correct, slits need to be cut in the foil to let grease run through and I should have explained that. Unfortunately, they don't sell the pre-formed trays here in the USA or the trivet. You Aussies get all the good Q accessories!
I bought a Weber Q years ago after owning another brand. The Weber solved all of the problems I had with the other grill, especially cleaning. I think it's very well designed. And it holds a lot more food than you expect. I used it for 4 years before our landlord outlawed grills.
Yes, the Q is a very well thought out model. It is pretty amazing how much you can cram into them - even the smallest version. Too bad your landlord banned grills. Sound like it's time to move ;-)
The missing thermometer for ambient heat is no problem, they sell one for it, for if you want to roast, or you can buy their probe one which is beneficial and you can see temps and doneness of your food on an ap on your phone
Yup, I did end up buying a lid thermometer. Super helpful for roasts but you're right the lack of one built in is not a dealbreaker as long as you check the temp and doneness of your food with the meat probe. Thanks for watching!
I have had my Q3200 for over 10 years (stored outside the entire time!) and I love it! looking into possibly getting stainless steel grilling grates though because I have had to replace the originals twice :(
Yes these grills are very durable but the enameled cast iron can flake over time. I’m about at the point where I have to replace my grates too. Stainless is a good idea to try.
Just like any BBQs the Weber Q range needs "getting to know". We have the Baby Q and we cook whole snapper, salmon fillets, chicken (either whole or pieces) and of course pizza and a variety of vegetables. Terrifically versatile but a learning curve awaits the new owner. Channels like this one certainly reduces that learning curve - thanks on behalf all Weber Q owners. FWIW - we also have a Weber "Go Anywher" charcoal grill which is also excellent. regards from Melbourne
Thanks for watching from Melbourne! Yup it absolutely took me a while to realize how versatile this grill is, as well as learning and discovering some of its quirks and limitations. Thanks for watching!
Awesome! You are lucky! I do know Costco often runs a clearance where they include the grill and cart for pretty much just the cost of the grill. Great find!
My understanding is that Weber claims that lining the inside with foil will cause the cook box to retain too much heat. I've heard of people doing this without trouble, but I don't have experience with doing this. All I can pass along is that Weber doesn't recommend it. You might be fine doing this, you might not, but proceed with your own risk and monitor carefully if you try this.
You can buy trivet and convection trays fit indirect cooking . Weber do the higher lid with thermometer and electronic ignition for $10 more 0n the Q2200
Frustratingly, Weber does'nt sell the trivet or convection trays in the USA, but it's an easy work around with the foil and any wire rack. I do agree, anybody in the market for a Q needs to spring the extra $10-20 for the X200 models over the X000's. Wish I did my research back then instead of just buying what was on the shelf.
Just subscribed, and bought a 1200. Wanted to use 20 lb. Tank but after reviewing the hoses for 20 tank connection many complained about dangerous leaks. Which hose do you find to be best. Thanks Marv imhoff
Very cool! You won't regret the Q2200. If I had to do it all over again, that's the model I would purchase too. I love NZ, hope I can visit again someday!
Also from NZ, I have a Q1000 and a Q3200 ... I love both. The small one when cooking for me and my wife, the large one, sometimes both when we have friends and family over ! I bought a aluminium baking tray from Mitre10 and made a "use over and over" indirect cooking shield for under the trivet, it works very well. I did a wonderful pork roast with crackling last week ! My small Q did not have a thermometer, I bought one on Trademe for $15(NZ), drilled a hole and installed it ... works a treat. Keep on grilling !
Good review! I've owned both a Q2000, and now a Q1200. The larger one definitely has a better searing action, but ultimately I decided it was too large for my cooking style. The 1200 is nice for the smaller size and the thermometer, but I'll tell you that I'm missing those extra BTUs just a bit now.
Thanks for watching! One of my neighbors has a Q1200 so I recently borrowed and then compared them. They definitely both have their pros and cons. Either way, you can't go wrong.
Thanks for answering! That above post is exactly right. You do get a bit of flare up because of the unprotected burner tubes, but if you keep your cook box relatively clean, if you shift things around you should be able to dampen the flare ups. PS. This is indeed a Q2000 not the older 200. It has the newer "Q" logo on top instead of the "Weber" on top. But functionally I believe they are exactly the same! Like yourself I only changed my burner once, and that was only before I knew how easy they were to clean out. Thank you both for watching!
I bought the Q100 in 2002. Today I had to replace the iron grill grate -- after 21 years. The burner did develop a small rust hole in one place. I fixed it with a piece of AC foil tape approx. 3/4" wide; just wrapped it around the hole. Everything else is fine. I may replace the burner in the future. It costs $12-15. One note, this is not a smoker so you really don't need a thermometer. As to the video -- if you are only cooking for 1 or 2 people then why did you buy the large grill that cooks for 4 to 6 people? A smaller grill, like my Q100, uses less gas that your Q2000. I cook steaks, chicken, pork chops, lamb chops, shrimp, and shish-kabobs -- all just fine for the last 21 years. With the new grate I am ready for another 21 years.
Admittedly, I bought the Q2000 out of ignorance. At the time I was just looking for something I can pick up and move easily as needed, but I didn't realize the Weber Q I purchased in store came in different sizes, otherwise I would have just went with the Q1000/1200 right off the bat. No regrets though, this thing has been crazy durable.
Thanks I just bought one £440 on their website. £420 at B&Q then a great offer got it for £150!!!!. we are a family of four so think the size will be fine
The prices for these Weber Qs in UK and OZ are crazy! That said, you got a good deal at 150 because that's about what they go for here in the USA. Enjoy and happy grilling!

I have the 2200 since 5 years.... and actually I agree with you, no 2nd burner and size (for me is to little xD) is really the negative points, otherwise... what à grill xD !
@@ChicagoGriller we bought it brand new. So here’s what happened we used the huge propane tank, but it wasn’t working so we thought we ran out of gas so went to purchase a new one. It didn’t work, so my husband has those little propane tanks and that worked! I’m confused as to why tho. 😳
Hmmm interesting. Two things come to mind. 1) I think the safety mechanism in your regulator may have been triggered. It can be reset like so grilltanksplus.com/how-to-reset-a-bbq-grill-regulator/ 2) it's possible your adapter hose is bad. I suspect it's number one above though as you said it lights for a minute then goes off.
You can cook anything on it! But if you want to use your Q for roasting, you have to purchase a separate roasting tray and heat shield. Thanks for watching!
Oh yes, I know you can do indirect grilling. This was one of my earliest videos that I made, and at that point had not demonstrated anything yet. I have several indirect roast videos now. Check them out and let me know what you think!
Hi David, I do mostly agree with your statement. The single burner is not that powerful on its own, so you can't cook with the lid open. So with the lid down, the air does circulate like a convection oven. It's interesting, because online, I have seen a lot of Weber Q specific recipes that are essentially baking recipes - even bread, muffins, etc. If you do take all that into account, the Q does become a pretty versatile little cooker. Anyways, thanks for watching!
Yup, the extra $20USD for the Q2200 vs Q2000 is a no brainer. Thermometer, electric starter, and slightly higher lid. If I did my research thoroughly when I first bought this four years ago, I would have gotten the Q2200 instead! Thanks for watching!
Yikes! A bit scary! I have heard of that happening on Internet forums, but I don’t know why or how that happens. Hope nobody was harmed and nothing damaged. Curious to know what Weber may have said was the cause.
@@ChicagoGriller I'll definitely keep you informed with what weber have to say. Hi Denis - it's funny, I definitely waffle back and forth about it. I cook for two, so ideally the Baby Q is best and most efficient. But there are the oddball times I do bigger cooks or have people over and it's nice to have the space of the 2000. That said, can't go wrong with either. Thanks for watching!
This was one of the first videos I ever made, so I do admit I am pretty stiff looking and cringy. That said, I'm glad that people at least seem to find the actual content and my other less stiff/cringy videos helpful. Thanks for watching and the funny comment :-)
Wrong about the rack of ribs. Get your ribs ready with your rub lip let the grill get hot for 10 minutes on high turn it down to low and put your ribs on with the cover up. Flip them every now and then and cook them for approximately three hours on low. This grill makes perfect rack of baby back ribs without smoking them .
Sorry to hear that. I’ve actually not heard of regulators going bad to be a common problem. Must be a bad unit. I’ve had my Q for six years now and it’s still on the original regulator.
@@ChicagoGriller I’ve been thru three in about five years- Weber is good about sending me new ones for free, but it’s the aggravation of getting to camp and the grill won’t heat up-
After the first regulator went, I’d test the grill before we left, would heat right up and go, get to camp, acted like it was in safe mode, couldn’t cook a hotdog- To be fair, there was a bit of beating and banging in the back compartment of the RV, I figured that might have something to do with it, but still, why travel with an unreliable grill? I have a griddle and a tailgate grill that combed weigh less than the Weber and they’ve never let me down-
This guy is incredible! (zero credibility) Weber Qs are versatile enough, although they do not do every kind of bbq. It is one of the best portable grills on the market.Besides, in the opening seconds of this video he is spraying aerosol propellant food oil on an open flame. Whadda dork! Let's chip in and buy him an eyebrow pencil.
Sorry you feel this way. It's actually an extremely capable machine, but yes I agree, the lack of thermostat out of the box is a very weird omission. Easily rectified via DIY project.

Thermometer...can order ALL accessories from Weber, get their thermometer, drill a hole in the lid, easy peazy.
Yup, that's exactly what I did. Drilled a hole, pushed the thermometer through. Don't know why I never did that earlier :-)
Onion reporter is charmed by the rigid routine in prison.
I will give this method a try!
My Q eats regulators, to the point that I don’t carry it with us anymore-
Sorry to hear that. I’ve actually not heard of regulators going bad to be a common problem. Must be a bad unit. I’ve had my Q for six years now and it’s still on the original regulator.
@@ChicagoGriller I’ve been thru three in about five years- Weber is good about sending me new ones for free, but it’s the aggravation of getting to camp and the grill won’t heat up-
After the first regulator went, I’d test the grill before we left, would heat right up and go, get to camp, acted like it was in safe mode, couldn’t cook a hotdog-
To be fair, there was a bit of beating and banging in the back compartment of the RV, I figured that might have something to do with it, but still, why travel with an unreliable grill?
I have a griddle and a tailgate grill that combed weigh less than the Weber and they’ve never let me down-
Stupid unneeded music-- too annoying!!!!
This machine is a waste of money, no thermostat tells you its a pice of shit
Sorry you feel this way. It's actually an extremely capable machine, but yes I agree, the lack of thermostat out of the box is a very weird omission. Easily rectified via DIY project.
