    This is one of the most helpful videos ever. In the middle of the Corona pandemic I realized that the problem with my Thermador oven was that the door does not close fully, so the convection fan was not operating. (The light already doesn't work and will not be fixed, as the job is too expensive.) Someone pointed me to this video and I'm just so grateful. Many thanks to this and to comments as well.

    The repairman said my particular GE built in model was over 10 years old and would have to charge over a grand to order the part and install! Forget it, I’ll just keep using the door stand to keep it closed when baking. I decided to check out UA-cam for ideas and was going to try the towel trick but was afraid it would somehow pull the door out even more. Then I came across your video. THANK YOU Sooo much for your solution! Much appreciated. Bought the magnets, keeps the door closed, and I am pleased as punch. Thanks again!

    OMG amazing fix!
    I have a double oven by Dacor and the top oven will not close all the way, so I’ve been using a ribbon to tie it to the cabinet above it to keep it closed. Your idea is awesome. We called to have a repair man come and it was over $350 which was like amazingly costly, plus with COVID-19 running rampant here in Illinois I didn’t want to chance having a non family member in our home. I want thank for your easy fix! I’m ordering my Amazon Magnets right now thumbs up! 👍

    I tried the magnets but the door was still offset on one side too much to catch. I examined the hinge and noticed that the door was not fully installed up to the notch visible in the hinge. I unlatched the door as shown in this video and wriggled it in place. Voila! Door now shuts and I kept the magnets in place for extra security. Thanks for the instructions!

  • @moodberry

    You mentioned heat destroying the magnets. This fix was posted 3 years ago. How have these magnets held up under the heat in these years?
    As an aside, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason why so many oven door springs are failing is because of the heat. Heat causes spring steel to lose its temper. So even new springs will fail again and again. Don't know if this is planned obsolescence by the manufacturers. It lets them continue to sell springs. There are enough smart engineers who could make oven doors that would stay shut - but again, that wouldn't be good for business!

    • @indianadavejones

      The ceramic hold up great. Still have box full of 90. Have never had to replace. My issue was lower over door being dropped open or thrown open. The inners are bent or broke. When open fully it hangs down a bit, like just past 90 degrees...at about 100 or 110 degree angle.

    • @moodberry
      @moodberry 3 роки тому

      @@indianadavejones That's very good to know. I ordered a set from Amazon today. But I have noticed some comments saying that sometimes the magnets stick to the door and sometimes to the oven. Have you seen this? If this is an issue, perhaps some glue that can withstand high heat would keep them glued to the oven. What do you think?

    • @indianadavejones
      @indianadavejones  3 роки тому

      @@moodberry Yes occasionally they will even land right ontop of each other and be too thick to close door....but easy to space out again unless in middle of a cook and they are hot...its manageable...some sort of heat resistant glue would be good...LMK what you find...It's on our lower oven we rarely use so not a huge issue for us...if it was main oven that we used often I can see the annoyance..

    Thank you so much i was about to say heat+magnetism=weak magnet. I have a old aquarium with over 2kg force but it will die. Another solution is making a C clip, I used an old e cig box mod body and cut it with a rotary tool. Only issue was people not able to open the door, refusing to use logic and eventually breaking the clip.
    Not replacing the hinge, it's £46 over 60 USD for a pair of hinges & receiver for a oven with a selector switch with only 2-9 working! Plus the beauty of these magnets are ability to reuse and of course saving money.
    Being the adventurous idiot I resorted to placing a long stool in front of the door with a cast iron pan on top.

    • @Gunzee
      @Gunzee 6 років тому

      So after trying c clips and not going down the magnet path as the rotational selector switch was working in only 2 positions. Convection and lights I bought a used oven for £20. Yes I was a little hesitant but it's a good buy. Nicest thing is the increased internal space yet same external. Sadly I missed a Neff for £50 but even if this lasts 2 years (or even half that) I consider it a bargain.
      Best thing is how clean the glass is, one can clearly see food without needing to open the door slightly

    Hi, thanks for this tip, I tried and used a single magnet from an old 3.5" hard drive, it is shaped as a curve and fits perfectly in the corner. Ideally I need another one for the other corner some time. My oven is fixed, yipee !!!!
    You'll need a special miniature Torx bit to get these magnets out of a hard drive out, or perhaps you can drill the screws out. Watch out as these are very powerful magnets, they will snap together and give you a blood blister if you're not careful - you have been warned, it hurts :-)
