Imagine the glasses being able to show you how to assemble anything with visual cues and arrows, (letting you download a digital manual on the glasses instead of using paper instructions). Or it showing you how to fix your car or do plumbing work with perfect visual instructions overlaid onto things. It would allow you to do work that costs hundreds or even thousands of dollars and currently requires a professional. The investment would pay for itself.
Not only that but they will be universal translators, they can turn any language into any other language. And xr glasses could phase out hearing aides, not only could they boost audio signals into the ear but they will give users subtitles on every word spoken.
One day we’ll look back at images of people in a crowd holding up their phones, recording a moment, and think, my god, that’s so archaic. We were missing the live moment behind our phone screens. (To then be capturing moments through their glasses.) I look forward to that day.
These videos are so fun to watch. Informative, funny, easy to follow along with. Great work by the editing team. Loved how they placed the talking head video snippet on the chart to contextualise where the speaker is in her narrative :D
The metaverse isn’t dead. The architecture just isn’t there to support the vision. So the first step to ease us into this world is AR and once that’s used on a greater scale VR will be next.
bringing ar into daily life IS the metaverse . she says that this means we arent "going to the metaverse" people dont understand the metaverse concept yet . blame zuck for using the name
I have a pair of metas rayban and also the meta quest 3. The raybans I had - had limited recording… and you had to constantly move the data to your phone manually. The quest 3. I swear it’s made my vision a lot worse…. Maybe I don’t have the settings right but I went from barely using my glasses to having to use them. And that’s me having the same prescription for 20 years. The future is so you “can see” but it makes you blind too - in more ways than one.
Why didn't WSJ put the price of the Quest 3 glasses next to the Apple Vision? It made the Quest 3 seem as expensive as the Apple Vision, which isn't true. It's only $499.00 for 128GB for an outstanding VR and AR experience.
The weight thing is crucial. What I didn't get was, those glasses, "horizon" ones, are like normal glasses, I mean, the rest of the world (apart from the floating screens and so on) it is the world you see with your naked eye (or your eye through traditional glasses)? I mean, no camaras for that part? Because that would be great I think.
This is how you'll be training the AI. It's too difficult right now to get a robot to walk around in the world so the people will do the walk/talk around.
Curious if Jenna has seen the Even Realities G1 glasses, which are exactly the "middle step with a small display in the glasses" that she discussed at the end of the video
5:32 OBVIOUSLY not apple. Apples entire success has been being the BEST in the market, not the first to market. Plus reliable analysts with supply chain connections have repeatedly said the glasses are delayed for another few years at the bare minimum
THEY already know where we are located and with apps like Siri THEY hear what we hear. THEY already have cameras everywhere we go, but now THEY see what we see. It's concerning.
@@hollowmale I have no loyalty to any tech company. I am currently owning a redmagic phone. If Meta Orion is a great product, then I don't see any problem with it. Meta, Apple, Google, Microsoft. They are all spying on you. Meta is not worse than any of these
Fantastic analysis, Joanna! It's exciting to see the competition heating up between Apple and Meta in the AR glasses space. Your comparison of Meta’s Ray-Bans and Apple’s Vision Pro really highlights the pros and cons of each approach. The future of wearable tech is definitely something to keep an eye on! Do you think people are ready for AR glasses to become a mainstream part of our daily lives, or is there still a long way to go before they catch on?
Great video. However, I think there's a logic error in your "matrix". Wouldn't the perfect answer be high-power, low-bulkiness --> the upper left quadrant. Currently you have Orion in the center, which is probably the right location. But in terms of the ideal, the ideal isn't the center, it's Quadrant II, which obviously contains no products at the moment.
I gotta push back - the Orion thing costs $10,000 which makes the Vision Pro look like a deep discount, so no, it's not "what we've been waiting for" We need to take the VP and see the normie version, which ideally will work off iPhone, much like how the Apple Watch does (and did more previously)
Good analysis. One fallacy (in general, not necessarily in this video) is that there has to be an in-between device that does everything. The more likely outcome is that passthrough AR (Vision Pro, Quest 3, etc.) and seethrough AR (Spectacles, Orion, etc.) evolve along parallel paths and coexist for various use cases that map to their respective strengths. Passthrough will always be better for entertainment (color contrast, FOV, etc.) while seethrough will always be better for walking around, driving, and overall social acceptability. Forcing a do-everything device compromises both ends, for the same reason you use a laptop and smartphone instead of ditching both to do everything on a tablet.
There is nothing more important in this critical time than putting down our phones and putting on glasses to avoid reality in a new time-wasting way. Maybe we can meet new virtual "friends" to talk to who wear the same glasses? This is all mindless, socially dangerous and destructive.
Why would companies want to aim for the centre of the face matrix? Shouldn't they try to get to the upper left corner: maximum smartness with minimum bulkiness?
Apple failure is that the price is way too high.Metaquest is on the right track, bringing affordable v.R to home with a great one twenty in hurts is awesome
Since the video didnt show you on the the graph. The Apple Vision pro is the $3500 system, while the meta quest 3 is a $500 system. And coming from an AR/VR enthusiast, the Quest 3 pricing is perfect and the gap in these devices quality isnt very large.
No mention of meta copying apples interface and still not being able to match all the things Apple does well with AVP. Things like controlling privacy, full immersion, conference calls, video capture, collaborative modeling. This is a meta ad for a product that doesn’t exist for a price that may be even higher than apples. The only way Metas product is cheaper is if meta gets even more private customer data to sell to businesses like WSJ.
i won't adopt something with cameras and Sensors all over my head collecting brain inside and outside data!!!! glasses to replace display(s) is all i need! xreal / rokid/ viture and their improvements is more than enough!
Have you tried the Meta prototype device yet? Have you tried Apple Vision Pro? One is not even a released product yet and the other is too heavy and expensive.
I'm still skeptical that these will be widely adopted even if the cost and performance improve. Kinda feels like the hype around 3-D TV: hailed as a revolution but turned out to be a commercial flop.
Smart glasses won me over, and this is the pair that did it: on.wsj.com/4gAT3Qw

I agree but it’ll take a long time. Recording and moving your head a lot is kinda meh but if we can record like a insta360 the maybe…
You get it. 🎯

Everyone is going to have to wear glasses just to have a portable mini computer. Haha😅
The glasses' windows look so much more jittery than the Vision Pro. Tracking takes a huge hit with the smaller form factor.
