ABOUT ME
Californian exploring the world. Here to share adventures and give you tips about travel, culture, language, and life.
Hi from the trail! Thanks for watching and following along. Just want to let you know that if I don’t reply to your comment, it’s because I’m hiking and I have no service. So don’t worry, I’m not ignoring you 😊❤️
What camera are you using btw?
Hiking! It's really looks a lot like "WALKING". ha ha
It’s a canon g7x Mark 2 😊
Don't worry about us just focus on hiking safe (but post whenever you can)!
Hi Mari, here is a song for you both, which I hope you enjoy. Every time I play this, I think of you both walking the PCT. Some of the words seem to fit well with your current adventure. Take care. Robert. ua-cam.com/video/h6OvqLDT_Ms/v-deo.html
That last frame at the end where, you fill in on the map how much you've hiked is gold! Can't wait to watch the line grow!
I’m so glad you noticed that! I didn’t know if anyone would catch it - it’s so small now! 🤗
How are you able to edit and upload on the trail?! I'm amazed that you're able to do it while hiking so much each day and being out in nature!
Welcome to the PCT. You do a terrific job on your video and I look forward to following you. Be safe.
Can't wait for more videos!! As someone who hopes to hike the PCT this next year when I finish college you're inspiring me and I'm definitely living vicariously through you. happy travels!
I finally got around to checking this out. Very cool. I'm going to watch the whole series. It's been on my adventure list for a long time, but haven't done it yet. By the way this was uploaded on my birthday.
Ah nice! Happy belated birthday! You should definitely hike it!
I'm lookin' forward to more videos. Thank you for sharin'. Godspeed to you both. Yeyyyy!
Cheers!
Great start! Be careful. Thxn for letting me come along with you guys!
I predict you and NZ boyfriend to be the rocking you Tube 2019 PCT vids! Excellent start! Lovin’ the graphics. Stay safe!
I'm so excited your journey started. Love your vlogging-style and can't wait to see more. Good luck!! Greetings from the Netherlands 😊🇳🇱
That's some big miles in your first two days. Congrats for starting the trail, hope to meet you during PCT Days here in Cascade Locks.
What are the dates for trail days? I'll be up visiting my daughter in June, would love to come by.
@@johneason6540 August 16-18, a couple of months after you're here. Maybe make a second trip up?
Your trail graphic is very nice. When that little branch brushed up against your head when you were talking on trail, you looked back at it. I was thinking, yikes, Poison Oak maybe. Good views out there this year, best wishes to you both.
Best wishes to you and Nick, enjoy every moment. Like the video format too 👍
Welcome to California, Mari and Nick!
This is beautiful! Thank you for sharing your journey with us. My eyes got watery at the very end. 😭 Looking forward to following along.
I really liked this vlog. You managed to capture the anticipation of starting out and beginning to settle in. What a good idea to have a map showing your progress. I also enjoy Nick's Kiwi accent, particularly the way that he says desert :)
I found your videos searching for SE Asia related content and as a former thru-hiker myself I'm really glad you've taken this on. Rooting for you both! Cheers!
Yay thanks!!
Great to see you finally get there. Please look after yourselves ease your self into the longer miles. Love the track on the map. Congratulations doing a great job with the vlogging.
Nick’s Trail name will undoubtedly have something to do with those front pouches!
Those sunglasses are pret-ty coooool.
So pumped to follow this adventure! Congrats on the 30 miles! Damn. This is really inspiring. Have fun guys 😊
Wonder if you’ll catch up to second chance hiker, will be interesting to see what gear you get rid of, 👍
She could walk backwards with a blindfold on in the pitch dark and catch him...😂
the desert is looking a lot greener than last year (from the vlogs I watched!)
so glad to watch! great vid 👌🏼
Tell us about that tent.
What a great experience. What are you filming on? GoPro? Phone?
Hi Mari, saw one of your Iceland travel videos a while back. Did not know you walked the PCT.
Hope to see you make it all the way. Since i am starting out today. I won't skip ahead. :)
30 miles in two days. ouch. especially if you had not trained for the hike.
I watch your journey every summer. Someday I'll be hiking the PCT.
Welcome back, your are walking into the greenest desert we have seen in years do to the 170% above normal rainfall. Good idea, take it slow at first and before you know it you will be crushing them. SAFE HIKING.
Hello Mari, greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing your fine video. You folks be safe out there. The very best to both. Enjoy the journey. 🤗
Amazing thing is how everyone's experience is a bit different. Same trail, different experiences and feelings and picture shots. Thank you.
What video editing program did you end up using for this trail? I'm interested in what you used to draw your mileage at your end screens and the maps you show with your line tracing your hikes and camp site 1, etc.
Wonderful start, really like the progress map. Without doubt, you have the most awesome spork on the trail. Good luck and enjoy!
Very cool Mari ... i am so happy for you ! good job
I've been keeping up on IG.... girl, y'all are doing great!! Take care & God bless!
Love the video, good job.
I hiked section "A" in March it was very nice then.
So excited to be following the both of you on the PCT, yay!!!
I'm so excited you guys are doing this! So awesome.
Hey you guys, this is looking really good!!! Excited to see much, much more.
Question, what is your original profession? Also do you know if it's allowed to camp along those hiking trails or do you have to be part of a group?
Thanks
Yessss!! Thank you, keep em coming.
Yay will do!
The flowers look beautiful! Thanks for the view, you two!!! (Love the front-pack accessory-packs!) 🌻🌷🌹🌻🌺🌾🌻🌿💐

Just found your channel. This looks absolutely crazy. I need to check out what this Pacific Crest Trail is. It looks epic though. I am guessing it goes from Mexico to Canada?
may you have an awesome journey. don't forget to take in mount whitney and see the sunrise from there.
looking forward to nice videos. thanks for sharing.
Can’t wait!
Good choice regarding the cheese. I always buy Tillamook. It's from Oregon. Cheers.
Congrats on starting the PCT. Have a blast.

I was waiting for this 😊 happy trails!
Great video mary
Wow , 1 video in and I feel like I wanna do this sometime soon
I want to do the at trail it's easier I think
Hi Mari and Nick, great video. You are doing very well. However, I must point out, there may have been a bit of cheating earlier by using that bus to the start of the PCT and also using the plane prior to that from New Zealand. Hmm!!! Should be walking all the way, I say!!! LOL. Wow!! That is an amazing trail. There is certainly some beautiful scenery there. Incidentally, once you and Nick finish the PCT, maybe you could come over here to Australia and walk across the Nullarbor Plain...just kidding!!! Anyway, wishing you both the very best. Take care and keep safe. Robert.
What time of the year did you star?
Thanks. I really enjoyed watching the video.
Did yu finish the trail
Awesome video!! I can’t wait to follow you’re amazing journey
How did you find your trail Angel's to take you to the trail? I've been think about the PCT but would have to fly in to San Diego and not sure where to go from there. Any information would be greatly appreciated. 😁😁
Buses run to Campo from San Diego ... Got your permit ?
@@Lue_Jonin this would be for next year
Great Video, LOVE IT! What is the song you chose at 8:28 ? I tried sound hounding it but it wasn't recognized.
Buuurrrr you guys look cold, wearing jackets at end of video :)
HAPPY PCT TRAILS and WELCOME back to MOTHERLAND. LOVE THE VIDEOS. Be Safe!
Keep on trucking Mama. A bit of advice from Vilhjalmr Stefanssson's "The Arctic Manual" (1940) on how to make consistent progress on your trek. He recommended that if weather conditions are favorable (i.e., not a blizzard), one should push on until 3:00 in the afternoon and then make camp the first decent camp spot after that. This policy prevents one from pushing on and on looking for the perfect camp spot until too late in the day. Of course, he was traveling in the high arctic where it gets dark quite early and his criterion for a camp site was snow suitable for building an igloo. I suggest you adapt his advice by picking a time about 90 minutes before sunset and your criteria would include flat, rock-free ground that will hold your tent stakes.
thanks for this! love it! can't wait to get on trail myself even more now...PCT 2021 🤞🏻
Ahaha! So jealous right now!! Next year! Was great to see Nick using an Aarn backpack - I absolutely love mine, but have been too-ing and fro-ing about taking it next year...just heavier and more moving parts which could break...but I call it my magic pack for a reason! I can just glide along with it!! So I will be very interested to see how he goes with his. All the best, and make the most of every day!
What music was playing during this video? Catchy tune!! Check out the song 'Hatfield' by widespread panic. Talks about lake morena, tells a story about a drought in that area. Great tune!
This is the end (The Doors)
This was awesome. Definitely something I will never do so it's wonderful to be able to share in your experience.
To bad there's no "Trail Days" on the PCT. You would have a chance to go and meet other hikers who are way ahead of you on trail. If you happen to see Kate Cloud/Feathers! Out there, tell her she "Rocks".
Great start. Thanks for taking us along.
Wow😱 great start! 👍👍👍💪💪💪
how did you meet?
Glad to see you guys on the PCT. Looking forward to following your adventurers. Enjoyed your first two days video. Be safe.
Great start! make SMiles! Happy trails!!
Happy adventuring!!
I always add oil to my mashed potatoes for extra calories, and I add cheese, if I have it, for calories and flavor. Yep, true gourmet dining.
Almost finished Cheryl Spayed's lol book, so I wanted to get some visuals of the Trail in different stages.
So glad I stumbled into your channel! Subscribed & binge watching! Thanks for sharing your journey...hope I can convince my husband to consider doing this with me at some point. Happy trails 🙏🏻❣️
Have an awesome hike, both of you guys!
Just one thing I like to ask from you, when you have time, look into a few videos from "Second Chance Hiker". This guy, Cory, is really an inspirational guy who struggle and overcome again and again on the trail.
If you like his videos, give him some encouragement once you catch up with him.
You are awesome too, good luck with the adventure!
following now!
Great video Mari lookin forward to following you two....how exciting....just a thought....be aware ....rattlesnakes like shade to so be smart when sitting on boulders or close to bushes in the shade....a girl almost sat on a rattler a few days ago she thinks the snake bit her pack....dont panic just stay safe !! Good job with video !!
Go get’m you two. Have fun and stay positive. Take your time the first couple weeks and enjoy.
If you like long walks, the El Camino from Southern France to Galicia in North Spain is a good one, 883 miles to the end, that's like hiking from Whangarei to Wellington.
I would love to do that walk one day!!
@@mari.johnson Not as long, but very scenic.
You've started! Wow, time's flown by. I really admire you both for doing this and look forward to following along on the epic hike.
Yeah it’s really happening now! Hope all is well with you!
Brilliant!
Its so amazing what you guys are doing! I hope to do something like that one day. Good luck and safe travels! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your journey.
KIA ORA
Great video! Wish you did a time-lapse of the sunset. I'm travelling at the moments as well. Hopefully, one day I'll get to do the PCT.
멋있다
나도pct를 꿈꾸고 있다
You know if you go straight that would be much shorter? :D ;) Have fun guys out there. :)
Great first days.
