Pacific Crest Trail Playlist: • The Pacific Crest Trail
After 5 months and 8 days, I completed the Pacific Crest Trail during a record snow year. There were good days and there were bad days. I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything. I learned what it means to suffer, what it means to heal and what it means to love myself all in one go. The constant ego battle of pushing myself to my limits. Walking 500 miles on a collapsed hip, contemplating my choices day after day, waking up in a blizzard at 4AM, crossing ice cold rivers, cursing at the mountains in front of me. I lost a lot of who I was, found a lot of who I am.
I learned what it means to surrender and through the compassion I found for myself, I have become a better person. In the end, I found what I was always looking for. Growth.
Thank you for watching :)

"I LOST A LOT OF WHO I WAS, FOUND A LOT OF WHO I AM.".... (from your description above). This has to be one of the best quotes from thru-hiking I have ever heard...outstanding. You have discovered the real prize of your journey; not so much that you are a new person, but an improved version of the old person. Congratulations, thru-hiker, on your accomplishment and much respect to you!! Please continue to tell us about your trek. Love your insights.
This quote is unbelievable
Yeah. That quote really resonates with me. I was homeless for two years living a nomadic lifestyle between Ontario, British Columbia and Washington state. Most difficult and most challenging time of my life. It almost killed me but I survived. I'm a lot stronger and a lot more resourceful than I realized or ever gave myself credit for.
Never doubt yourself. Never give up. You'll be OK.
Still, after all these years since she posted this vid, it's one of the most inspiring nobo PCT vids on YT, imo. Happy trails I.L. & thanks for introducing me to the music of Com Truise.
This 5 minute clip brought a tear to my eye.
thank you, me too! So, it's not just me...
So glad you cut off the vblogging and dove into the trail and you. This summation video does a lot for those of us who followed the prequel and wished you so much. Well done.
Indeed... im realising that for this lind of external and internal odysee, you need to cut off... complelty. This allows loosing yourself completly in the experience , transforming like a pupppae into a butterfly. Vlogging makes one hold onto ones former " persona" .
Could it be that most hikers vlogg because of an innate compulsion to be seen, appreciated and complimented, even though they often say the reason they vlogg is just to record their memories?.... just to record their memories?... maybe. Or, are we living in age where we must convert all our experiences into a full-time selfie? Could narcissism be a reason in some cases? Could anything be more intrusive to a hiking experience than the constant slavery to filming, editing and producing? Or is vlogging the best thing that has ever happened to hiking? Either way, I'll just leave the vlogging for someone else to do and hike as I always have... with no intrusions.
mb692100 could be a mix. Intentions vary. I think some want to hold on to these memories in a visual way, like myself :) depends on the person for sure.
Izzy Lackner... Quite true. I'm sure there are vloggers, as yourself, whose motives are pure, who truly just want to record their experience for their own benefit, as well as that of those who watch. To them, we owe a debt of gratitude for their sacrifice to record their journey, for it opens up the trail for many who will never be able to hike it themselves, and gives much insight to those preparing for their own journey.
mb692100, Personally I think many people do have a genuine passion for blogging, vlogging, videography, photography... it’s not always narcissistic.
Lots of wisdom for someone so young. Congratulations on a fatastic achievement!
You brought tears to my eyes as I remember the 900+ miles I did on the trail this year. I'll be back next year to bang out more.
i remember having that realization you had when i made it to rainy pass, i couldnt stop crying. i miss the pct so much. thanks for sharing this and thank you for letting me be able to feel that beautiful moment again
I love how youtube has figured out that I love hiking videos. Congrats on your hike and tempering who you are.
The hardest part of doing even a sectional hike of the PCT, is trying to apply for a permit. Truth is, you don't really need one ! Just do it 🙂
So just hop on the trail and do it?? Do they check for permits?
when the body suffers the soul flourishes....
pour moi c est le meilleur mini reportage sur la randonnee et j en ai vu bcp ........minimaliste ,decale ....tout y est .bravo !!!!
I have been waiting for vlog. At least you know that the trail can balance you and your never alone in this world. Thank you.
Raw, authentic, inspiring, and fucking beautiful. Thanks for making this and sharing your experience.
This is a good video to show to my co-workers who truly have no idea what the PCT is. It’s a good summation of all the different aspects in a quick video only a few minutes long, short enough to show people who would not be interested in watching a 45 minute long docu style UA-cam video on the PCT. thanks you, I’m counting down the days until I fly to San Diego to start my journey; 47 days and only slightly nervous/anxious haha
How did it go?
Absolutely love the epicness of your music selection...that combined with your raw emotions of your face...”The concept of suffering”...peace love n blessings to ya...🍀🧚🏻
Wow! Thought you decided not to finish since I haven’t seen you on UA-cam. A stronger, more mature, wiser human, good, because we need more of them. It sounds like you discovered that you are tougher than those negative inner demons that exist in all of us. Congrats for finishing. I hope you share some of your experiences with us in the future but if you don’t that’ll be alright too. I’m so jealous, I can’t wait to get my shot. PCT☑️👏✌️
Incredible Izzy. What an achievement. This for sure made me want to start looking into doing a big solo hike, I can't imagine how much you'd learn about yourself. :)
Everyone who started with a commitment and one step in Campo is a hero in my opinion whether they finished or not. However, the ones who finished and got to the end of the trek, you guys are Superheroes!!! Great video. I want to show this video to my friend who has no concept of this great adventure called PCT thru hiking. One day I want to at least do section A-B, which I believe is the toughest short section before the sierras. Keep on.
True words. I felt the same way this year doing my unintentional journey.
You rocked it out Izzy. Proud of you. Great accomplishment
Great video and message! "It was the worst of times...it was the best of times!" You can take whatever life throws at you if you can complete a PCT hike. Thanks for sharing and congratulations!
Awesome! It sounds like the trail provided exactly what you needed
Terrific video, too
You are so brave...wow I can only imagine the beautiful scenery.
Discovery and re-discovery, no re-invention. You seem to get it.
Reminded me of one of my favorite trail songs.
Out In The Country by Three Dog Night
..."Out where the rivers like to run...and bring back somethin' worth remembering."
That’s So Awesome !
You did it girl!! I am so proud of you!!!👍👣💪🏼👏
I'm reminded of the story Edward Espe Brown told in one of his books about the 2 smoking monks. The Abbot told the wiser of the Beginners that whatever they were doing they should also be praying. Watching along the way for Seymour's "fat lady" (from "Franny and Zooey"), the constant attentiveness, is a form of the hesychasm. Suffering is a prayer for Mercy, from a merciful God.
I have to watch your other videos now. Reading the description is what made me subscribe, thanks for speaking your feelings and truth. Good job with the adaptation keep living life and enjoy every minute of it.
I would think to finish such an amazing/difficult challenge has to change anyone. An experience/memories that you will have forever...so awesome!
I hiked the same year. In California I saw lots of hikers looking for an experience to redefine their lives in some way. That mythical endeavor lost most of its charm somewhere along the way I think - I didn't see it so much of that mentality from those trudging through Washington.
One hiker described me as the happiest man on trail. Others noticed me doing my own thing as well. On reflection I realized my approach was profoundly different. I was looking to discover or rather re-discover, not to be changed. None of us out there do anything unique or novel. Countless others have gone before. The wonder of the adventure is to do and see with our own senses, but the true lesson is one that creates humility and reverence, not "hey look what I did"
The old boyscouts got it right imo. I ran into one while preparing for my 2019 PCT hike. He taught me the following:
Cold Kills
Nature is Neutral, and
Mountains Don't Care
I do agree with the memories part of your comment. My first favorite hike tune* is "Out in The Country" by Three Dog Night. Give it a listen sometime.
*all my trail music either comes from my own memory/voice or sometimes a few lines of lyrics I write out - nothing from an electric box which takes away from my purpose for being outside.
Congratulations, I'm so glad you were able to finish. You blew by me on day 1, just before Hauser Creek.
Congratulations!! Awesome video too. I've loved the content you've put out about your journey and really enjoy the introspective experiences you've shared throughout. I'm glad to see how much this trail meant to you & that fuels me to one day follow in your footsteps 🤙🤙
amazing woman!!!
Congratulations on finishing! I knew you could do it once the distractions were removed. So happy to see this video and best of luck on your upcoming adventures.
Beautiful things reached threw lack of comfort.
To suffer. I geared up in late 2015 to hit the PCT in late spring 2016. I fell ill in spring 2016 and endured a prolonged tormenting benzodiazepine injury that I am only now emerging from here at the end of 2019. The long-suffering is indescribable yet profoundly transformative. I gained an appreciation for life I couldn't have known else.
As someone said "Suffering is joy supreme"
I'm fr NZ and I'm coming to the US for a year, ohh I would love to do this, I can only imagine spending a whole half a year doing this!!
Very nice short vid of the PCT!
People grow when they forged, but not when they suffer.
Keep trekking.
Congratulations on your achievement! I really want to walk the PCT and It’s the next item coming out of my bucket list. 👍!
Well done!
Amazing 🤩 thank you for sharing . God bless you 🙏
Can’t wait to do it!!! Nicely done! Thank you for sharing your journey with the public 🙌🏼💪🏼👊🏼
This popped up on my feed today. I’m sorry I did not watch in real time. This was a lovely montage of your hike. I so appreciate the ending. It isn’t easy to say what it all boils down to and some of us find that out much later in life than you did. I subscribed, as I want to watch from the beginning.
Excellent video! I'll be NOBO in a couple months...so excited! Again, great video...thanks for sharing your experience!
Sensatious Hiatus ah awesome!! happy trails to you! it’s going to be amazing :)
This looks awesome. The PCT is now on my bucket list.
Really well done. I love when people "get it." As a double crowner myself, I think you would dig the AT.
You are an amazing humble person!
Congrats to you. What a great achievement.
I was not sure if you would do the whole journey when you stopped vlogging. But here you are at Canada.
Be proud of yourself!

Fantastic video!
Gotta say, this is the coolest video and such a dope personal achievement, it makes me pretty proud to be your friend. Such crazy landscapes to trek through....Amazing work!
Absolutely gorgeous! I want to do this so badly...like it was a reason I was born...I have a couple heart issues that have caused many serious setbacks in my life so to complete this trail would allow me to die a completely fulfilled human. Thank you. You are beautiful inside and out.
Nathan Andrews thank you Nathan :) you are incredible. never forget that.
GROWTH.
Congratulations 🎉 I'm sure you will always enjoy the simple pleasures in Life.

This has got to be one of the best videos that I have seen in such a long time!!! Could you tell me what you used to film the whole experience? How old were you when you decided to do this? I hope i get a reply thanks for the inspiration!

Type 2 fun. It's a good metaphor for life. It can all be type 2 fun. Be the person your future self will thank you for. Life is a thru hike.
This trail will beat the hell out of you but will make you whole.
Yep! Great video.
Thanks for sharing.
PCT 2021 fingers crossed! Thanks for this wonderful video :)
"The concept of suffering"
Fuck yeah! I dream of doin the pct and when I talk to people about it, that's the one thing I struggle to convey...mostly I don't think they'd understand it as a pov from which to be grateful, but like "why do you want to suffer" then offer up mundane ways to do it.
Beautifully put!
How was the sense of small? I finally visited Yosemite as an adult in October and standing in that valley with sheer granite cliffs on either side, and trees 100'+ tall it was wonderful feeling humbled by it all. I feel like the peeks of the Sierra Nevada's would offer a similar feeling!
Homemade Wonderlust, when comparing PCT to AT, said that PCT was mentally more difficult. it's great hearing that echoed by someone else!
Love the Song. Keep up the good work.
Double down on that. Just watched it a second time because of the sound. matches very well :)
Beautiful.
Great accomplishment, congratulations, excellent job 👍wish you every happiness, I followed a few pct hikers all the way! Way to live life👍🙏🌲🌲
Awesome video. Congratulations on a monumental accomplishment ... Cheers.
Russian here, Perfect video 🤩 Super!!! 👍

I dig it. Well done.
What an achievement! Congrats! Nice video
I've never thru hiked. wished I could. If I did, I'm sure it would be a most enlightening journey.
Awesome!!!
Def would love to do this one day.
Congratulations on an incredible achievement!
pure motivation ❤️
Awesome video. Most people just don’t get it witch is fine by me
very nice, congratulations on a tough year hike!
I admire your journey...
Great trailer, great music ..congratulations. A
"Suffer to Live" 😁
Very Nice video. Beautifully done
Well done, thank you
Awesome video and congratulations...I watched a few different hikers on UA-cam this year and missed yours so I'll check some of them out...Santa Cruz California.
I'm happy for you 😊
Tough-hike, why would one characterize it as "loving themself?" Seems an odd thing to say? After a spa-day, yes. After buying an extravagant car, yes. But after busting-butt for six-months? Just curious? ("There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves." 2Tim3)
Congratulation!
And thanks for the video!
FreeRefill
Hey, look who's back 😁
Amazing 🙏
I've got my eye to the mountain range east of where I live. I'm gonna hike them. To the tippy top. And when I'm at the fucking top, I'ma scream at the four winds that the PCT is next.
Amazing!
I know marlin!!! Woah. That’s crazy
Congrats!!!
