the vast majority of toursists traveling to Italy overlook Sicily but I can tell you it's one of the best regions. It has it all: good weather, great people, great places, great food, great beaches, countless historical sites. and more
I lived off & on in Siracusa for four years wirh my boyfriend. We live with his grandparents in Ortigia. Absolute bliss. A wonderful experience. Food, wine, sun, sea, culture. Met many locals.....such sophistication...and grace. Many more People need to visit, although many do now. That was back in the day from 1983 - 1987 - when few had even heard of the place. The people are wonderful and the hospitality is to die for. Great memories.

I visited Siracusa this April. I flew to Catania rented a car and drove to Siracusa and I stayed there for 2 nights.I walked the narrow streets, walked in the castle, ate the wonderful food and drank the local wines. This city is a fantastic place! Siracusa is just one of many of the wonderful gems in Sicily! Agrigento is another beautiful place and it was surreal to walk in the Valley of the Temples and stay on the beach there! I can't wait until next May to return to Sicily to dig in deeper to find my relatives that are still living there and walk the streets where both of my Nonno's grew up before immigrating to America after WWI.
Siracusa and Ortigia are the best places to live in Sicily. The rest is beautiful, fantastic beaches and historical places. Food is incredible everywhere. Fantastic experience! People is so kind and always very helpful ! We want to came back!!! Thanks Sicily 👍❤️
Janet Lombardi Hi Janet, we aren’t living in Siracusa or Ortigia . Last year we went for three weeks to Sicily, visiting the island around and making different experiences, actually we are looking for a place where to live during winter time for us. The city is very 👍, fantastic people, they take care of the city, is not big, near other interesting places , clean, no chaotic, is our city 100 %. . Is a pity we couldn’t go back because of COVID but we don’t give up and hope these horrible time won’t last longer. Regards and enjoy your day 😜
Awesome Martin! I loved it too, what a great place! Thanks for watching and commenting! After our next episode on Malta, I head to Puglia Italy...which was incredible! Stay tuned!
We just returned from Sicily, Syracusa was our base and we traveled around the island. This place is incredible, so much to experience, the history is out of mind, we'll return for sure!
Siracusa took my breath away. It sooo jumped up my Italy's list. My most beloved together with Venice and Trieste! By the way you are gorgeous as ever! ahahah
I love your videos, I have learned so much about Italy from you. I am going to Italy in 7 days, my dream vacation! It’s been on my bucket list for years. Thank you for taking us along with you on your travels.
Its such a shame that ever since COVID-19 happened, so much has changed. I was supposed to go this year to visit my grandparents and uncle and to have a look at a place where I once lived. The last time I saw them was 4 years ago. God knows when I will visit them. All my flights are cancelled 😔 the good thing is that next time we go, we will have saved up more money and instead of just going to Syracuse, we could actually see Roma, Napoli and heaps more other places. If we are REALLY lucky, we could even visit America. Thank you soo much for posting this video. I’ve rewatched it at least eight times now. If I think of Syracuse I always watch this.
I know, it's really a shame. I am so glad you think of this video when you think of Siracusa! I hope you get home soon, it's an amazing place and people!
Thanks so much for all the videos in Sicily! We still have a year and a half until our scheduled trip there. I’m sure I’ll be re-watching these videos a few times before then. Great job!

Hi Marcello! Wow, that is SO COOL.....seriously! Thank you so much for letting me know this, and thank you for watching! What a small world! 😀It was an awesome place for lunch!
Florence, Venice Rome Paris.... Are for mass Destination and super expensive. Syracuse is rich of history, elegant and very Romantique at a fair price.
Hi, great video Mark. I will certainly fly to the south of Sicily some days in the not too far future - I hope - as we are approaching a second lockdown here in the North of Italy. "Look at the rings!" so funny and simpatico as usual you're 😘 Btw you look smashing nicely tanned with the light blu shirt as your magnificent eyes colour! Till next video, much love 🇮🇹

Alfred Vinciguerra I just stayed in Ortigia in July. It is beautiful there! The water is so beautiful and crystal clear. I spent 3 days there and each day was amazing. My great grandfather is from Siracusa and sometimes I wonder why he left such a beautiful place.
Jonathan Faro Thanks so much. Many reasons why people left. I left to study overseas, met my wife and remained. Long time ago people left for economic reasons and better opportunities for their children. Be proud of your origins always 🇺🇸🇮🇹
Fun video! I'll visit there for sure soon. That cannolo looked fascinating, with its savory/sweet combination. I'd never thought of a fish and berry combo, but I look forward to trying it.
Ortigia is especially wonderful. When you’re there, get some Bronte pistachios. They are local to the area and they are very unique. Also, get your gelato at Belfiore Gelato & Cioccolato. It’s the best I’ve had. Pro tip: If you’re up for a bit of a drive, go to Modica and get some Cioccolato di Modica there. It is completely unique and worth the drive. Plus, the city of Modica is very charming and has a beautiful cathedral.

We just returned from Sicily, where we visited those cities along the one coast, and will now wait to go to the other side. I loved Sicily, and the people, the scenery and the food. Disliked the driving, the graffiti, but it wasn’t beautiful trip, especially the little byway of Scilla, near the straits of Messina, Siracusa, and wonderful town of Matera. We stayed in Catania, and traveled around from there, including a trip to Mt. Etna. I had always read about how secretive and dark the Southerners were, and now I must say to everyone that they were absolutely hospitable and welcoming. I so enjoyed your videos, from my home in Westminster Colorado,
I enjoy your videos very much... such a charming and relaxing presentation of gorgeous nature and cities. You should make one special episode just making Ryan try different kind of food :))) He's super interesting, too! Travel and have fun
