Does sealed unit housings go for prepared steel?
Yes, generally they go for prepared steel 👍
Hello Tom, Sweden here again.
Copper has been going up all year at my local yard, currantly at 52 SEK/KG. ($3,81/2,2lbs)
Of course you have the EV's pulling the price but what about the wind turbines? If you build a 1 Mw wind turbine you need about 3 ton of copper. Aluminium has gone up almost 60% and stainless steel about 40% so far this year.
Stay safe and take care.
Awesome question, and I think we are going to save this to address in the next episode in this series 😁
Solar and wind installations, and the developing world beginning to get what the developed world has, will greatly raise demand for copper.
Thing is though, there's no shortage of copper, and there's been major new finds or new mine developments in various places.
Gold and silver are often found in significant amounts associated with copper, which helps subsidize the cost of mining the copper.
Mining and processing tech is always improving, and reducing energy and labor required per ton.
True &. Technology still elements in constructing electric systems especially electric motors more and more electric motors are using copper covered aluminum windings
Reducing the need for copper
@@steelisthemeal they're coated with copper color enamel, not copper.
I was going to sell my copper stash before the election good thing I didn't
This will actually be the topic for another episode in this series... so stay tuned!
I am still holding my Pyle's!! .....show me the money $$$$$$
I know the price hasn’t moved much at most scrapyards
@@steelisthemeal $3.05-3.10/# for #1 near me Tuesday, shred $140/ton, rotors were at $220/ton
EVs use more aluminum, magnesium, and super high strength steels.
The largest mining equipment and freight train engines are actually driven by electric motors. Diesel train engines are actually Dieselectrics - they are driven by electric motors that are powered by onboard diesel generators.
down here in VA weve got Charging systems at nearly every Sheetz gas station.
Wow, already? They are definitely starting to become a regular occurrence here in NJ, but it will be interesting to see just how many more will be needed with the push to EV
How close to Washington are you?
One of the largest untapped sources of metals will have to be landfills-current and abandoned. Even with "recycling programs" materials are only recycled if there is a profit to be made. Recyclers are taking diverted materials to landfills because there is no way to make a profit (even if residents pay for the privilege of keeping stuff out of the waste stream) .
The demand for cobalt is outstripping supply and mining in third world countries by children seems ludicrous, to have clean air in developed countries.
As far as charging stations, new hotel/motel complexes share them, mandates in new warehouse and condo/apartment districts demand them, and here in Florida, the turnpike has them at each rest stop, easing "evacuation route anxiety"...no gas for cars but juice for batteries
Wow, great insight, thank you 🙌 It's going to be very interesting to see where this all leads...
ole guy scrapper down in new orleans, hi Tom, do you ever foresee where scrappers will be required to have a local government permit to scrap? will scrap yards have to report funds paid to scrappers for tax purposes, will scrappers have to file taxes for their sales? should scrappers form an LLC to write off trucks, shop space, mileage, tools and a scrappers time to process material? where i sell material there are some fellows that make several trips daily to sell scrap cars, obviously there are nice profits there. what does the future hold, in your opinion, for independent scrappers, thanks.
Again, great questions!! Keep em' comin... so to start 1) scrappers technically should already be filing taxes every year on their scrap profits as long as they hit a threshold (refer to this www.hrblock.com/tax-center/income/other-income/how-much-do-you-have-to-make-to-file-taxes/#:~:text=The%20minimum%20income%20amount%20depends,file%20a%20federal%20tax%20return.) This is actually a topic we plan to hit in a podcast episode, so glad you brought it up. 2) Scrappers forming LLCs-- not a bad idea, we believe, but this is ANOTHER topic we will be discussing in a podcast, so stay tuned. We will have Tom touch on these questions in either the weekly report this Wednesday or in future podcasts 😃
cant wait to go at the scrapyard in my cybertruck
Hell yeah 🤘
Is there a serious shortage of copper, or not. My husband works in PCB industry and insists there isn’t enough copper to supply for sufficient quantities of EV
Watch the most recent weekly report - 5/19/21 - we answered your question there!
I'm following Goldman Sachs forecast, looks promising👍
I agree, looks VERY promising.
I remember copper 35 cents a pound 🤔
Woah... when was that?
