I was a kind of a "die hard" Pixel 3 user, until it died hard with the "your phone is corrupted" message out of the blue, due to Google's using cheap flash storage chip.

@@typingcat I bought a 50$ pixel 5a, used it only for photo backup. After 1 year it bricked itself and fell into the google loop reboot problem. I saw a reddit thread talking about the issues and what could be done. I reached out to google, sent my device in and 2 days total from the time I sent the pixel 5a in, I had a brand new pixel 7 pro!
I'd say, that's pretty good support! I'm still staying on my s24+ because DEX is that good heh

@@rlacombe I love my Pixel Fold. It's my favorite of all phones I've used. But recently, the apps keep failing and I've ended up switching to my ZFold5. Still a good phone, but it's not nearly as nice as my pixel fold.

I pray someday that Chrome OS will merge with Android and just dominate the PC landscape, it would be a total gamechanger. Just imagine Snapdragon X Elite + Full Chrome OS/Android integration. I would be able to die happy.

Virtual machine? But virtual machines usually have problems with the graphics, because GPU cannot be virtualised, at least on computers. Is that situation different on Google Pixel hardware? This GPU problem is probably the biggest reason why virtual machines are not more popular, because anything that needs graphics acceleration/GPGPU runs slow or doesn't run at all.

Here is my rebuttle to virtualization... your now using up double the resource. You have to install app on both android and chrome... I would rather have a type of overlay that would just use the existing rtesource of android within chrome so i dont have to use up the additional storage, ram and cpu power to run both. That is what dex offers.

Mark my words: In 5 years ChromeOS will take over as the main operating system globally in computers.
Most people already own an Android. It's only natural that eventually most people will own a ChromeOS device too instead of a convoluted Windows PC.
And yeah, I like Linux, but the Google services are ESSENTIAL for most, even for IPhone users.

@@blackzilian83 absolutely. Before, phones were just "accessories" for the most potent and capable PCs and laptops. Nowadays, everything surrounds phones as the main tech piece you NEED to own.
It's obvious that ChromeOS is the PERFECT companion for Android. Windows is becoming obsolete, so they keep pushing subscription services, and unnecessary spyware. Google and Apple will prevail at the end

    • @nicknorthcutt7680

Man I would love Chrome OS running Snapdragon X Elite or some other Arm SOC, and a future where we don't have to rely on Mac OS or Windows, having full integration with Android and perfectly coexisting. It would be a dream...

Mark my words: In five years Chrome OS will still be sitting around, doing not a lot.
Most people who own an Android phone barely know that it's an Android phone. They see it as a 'Samsung' phone, or Google phone. As for business GMail, the monthly prices are a bit too much.
I bought a pixelbook go. It was a lovely machine. But, without locally installed Office, it was useless to me. (...and yes, I have a Pixel 8 Pro, Honor Pad 9 and Oneplus 2 watch. I do like Android, but let's be super realistic).

    • @scotty_mccall
      @scotty_mccall 3 місяці тому +2

@@beckinbinderin bro... in 5 years a lot of things can happen. All chromebooks need is a better marketing for office use, and more ram.
Simplicity is ESSENTIAL for work, and the fact that you do look old, and have been battling for years with multiple OS on your laptop and phone, doesn't mean kids nowadays prefer things easy, and if Google provides, they will take it.
You are talking about Gen Z and Alpha who grew up with chromebooks as their main School device, and will expand that area of Google in a few years.
Just wait. Your generation dealed with Windows Vista. Doesn't mean kids nowadays will too

Hard to believe they haven’t thought about this before. Just chose not to. But maybe with the pressure to maintain people’s data they will. Foldable + chrome OS as desktop mode + better video recorder + (optional:stylus). Would happily pay $2,000 -$2,500 for the whole package.

I'd prolly prefer having Chrome OS on Android rather than having a native Desktop Mode. That would make the device an even more viable option as a laptop-replacement! Or here's another idea. Allow for dual-booting between Android and Chrome OS for tablets :D That would be a game-changer!!

It is interesting, but an issue I see with the virtualisation route is this would likely mean most of your account sign-ins would not be carried into the VM. That friction of having to re-sign in to everything twice on the same device would make this feature annoying.

I think a lot of interesting things are happening w/ ChromeOS: Using the Android stack hopefully will result in better Android app support on ChromeOS, Maybe in a year or two more powerful ARM chromebooks (with the new Snapdragon chips), and possibly ChromeOS on Pixels/Android phones. I think the phone as Chromebook would be great, but would Google's ChromeOS partners (Lenovo, Acer, Asus, HP, etc.) see that as killing sales of their devices?

  • @Andrewski8506

Incredibly intriguing! I would love to be able to plug in my phone and run Chrome OS, that would be fantastic! I also love the idea of a Dex Mode, however, if Pixel could produce Chrome OS when plugged into a computer instead of a hamstrung mobile operating system, but had a full blown Chrome browser, that would be the better option. two birds, one awesome device.

  • @sparky6757

Well, this is a step up from what Dex is.
I tried out Dex a few times. Ultimately I stopped using it, because it doesn't actually let me do anything on my tablet that I couldn't already do - it just makes the interface look kinda like Windows. ChromeOS may not be Windows, but I would assume that it supports more "desktop" programs than Dex does as a desktop OS.
What I _really_ want to see, though, is better emulation for Windows programs. Technically with enough jerryrigging you can run most anything on an Android phone, but I spent half an hour trying to install Steam on a Windows emulator and I didn't manage to get it running (knowing full well it was possible because I was following a tutorial, albeit a dated one). As soon as it's _easy_ for a _typical person_ to run desktop applications on their tablet or by plugging their phone into a monitor, that'll be a really great step towards reducing the number of products we need to buy.
Unfortunately, that's probably a self-defeating proposal, because the very companies that would need to step up and make emulation baked-in and easy are also the companies who want us to buy both a tablet and a laptop so they get more money.
