If you want look in google earth it was filmed "Boulevard Felix Amiot", the bunker at 2.08 or 7.30 (In the background) and at 7.40 does not exist anymore, he was near CCI Ouest Normandie - Délégation Cherbourg-Cotentin, Boulevard Felix Amiot. Some other bunkers in the area are still visible.
If you Google Earth street view to just east of the Rond-Point de Minerve along the D900, you can look south and the little cluster of buildings seen in the background of the surrender scene (2:47) is still standing - the contrast of light/dark bricks has faded compared to 1944, but you can match the buildings by counting the chimney pipes. The Bangalore scene (4:30) takes place a little further east along Boulevard Amiot - one pair of those tracks are still there, and you can match the angle with the Quai de France in the background. Half the building is gone but the two sets of towers are still there. When the GI's emerge from the building, it looks like they are at 30 Boulevard Maritime, looking east because that unusual stone retaining wall with a peaked top looks alot like the one at that location (obviously there's only one or two train tracks remaining to the right of the path)...the Hotel Tourville is now a parking lot...the dazed Lieutenant with the bullet hole in his helmet (7:56) looks like he's sitting about where the stop sign is if you're getting on the D900 from Bvde Felix Amiot. FYI - everything north of the D900 is reclaimed land...
Had the privilege.of interviewing one of those first Cherbourg US Engineers. He Survived the war and spent a peaceful life selling gas pump equipment and fishing for flounder.
My uncle came home from war feeling like his inner being had been ripped out and his brain scrambled, he said he just wanted to spend the rest of his life living simply, not having to force himself to do things like he did under a hail of bullets or exploding bombs. May God rest their souls.
@@harrycurrie9664 First of all, God Bless men like your father, also mine and tens of thousands of others who traded their youth and sacrificed far too much in that war. I can well identify with the inner turmoil of your uncle, only in a different conflict. I served with boys who were so messed-up by the horrors which they experienced that they never left Vietnam; choosing to live in the jungles for the rest of their lives. When you see the black flag of "POW" "MIA" many times those men were willingly MIA because their lives had been forever and irrevocably altered so that they felt that they just didn't belong 'Back in the World' (America) any longer.
Looks like taking the switching yards, beyond that no idea. Just saw the "313th" and it caught my eye. Godfather was in flight school, got reassigned in the buildup before DDay, went in D+7, fought across Europe, 2BS, 2PH, went to school on GI Bill, was in law school when Korea happened, was told to go join the AF quick as lawyer officer before he got sent to Korea as grunt due to prior service. My Dad was his first NCO assistant.
Hey hdarchives, don't know if you noticed but UA-cam has a timer; we don't need to see yours. Also, isn't this publicly available footage? Why the strange copyright style radio logo on the image?
I wonder what words were spoken at 8:00. Looks possible if someone can read lips. Was super interesting to see old WW1 footage with voice actors dubbing it in They Shall Not Grow Old.
Correction to the above description: US SOLDIER LIGHTING FUSE FOR BANDOLIER, should be lighting fuse for BANGOLORE TORPEDO. Showed correctly how well it cleared obstacles such as that barbed wire entanglement though. 04:35
Robert Pearson That 57mm cannon should have been put in the Stuart tank with a high velocity long anti-tank barrel using a high velocity anti-tank shell.
Every block of the way into Cherbourg the Krauts had left booby traps on doors and boxes and attractive trophys. The last hostile thing many of those germans surrendering did was put on an innocent face and steal a white sheet.
Capt Termite our kill ratio provides some comfort. I am not opposed to mines as area denial weapons. But no soldier could reasonably think that booby-traps would contribute anything strategically useful to the war. They were just causing mayhem.
Yes. Everything is actually pretty fantastic. More people are living outside of absolute poverty than ever before in history. Conflicts today kill less than ever before. And modern medicine has increased the life expectancy of people across the globe. Everything is amazing.
Therese may, merkel, Macron, Erdogon and Suadi Arabia are taking us back to the days of nazi Germany, where a ruling unelected (EU) group dictates what we can say or hear (Tommy Robinson ) .All for the sake of the creeping Sharia and it's part in creating a one world government or caliphate.

Outstanding restoration of film footage. Very Clear, very very good.

My Godfather, Phil Valenti's unit, the 313th
LrngMn Any information on what’s going on here?

An amazing job done by Peter Jackson
My Uncles unit. He was there.
G.I. using German MP-40 5:58
Xxx xxX I noticed that ☺
His recoil control was also pretty good too!
it only used a 9mm round but overall the MP40 had great recoil control capabilities because of its fire rate and caliber.
Xxx xxX far supeirior wepon.
Yeah that was cool
Good video. The Germans were not stupid. They knew they were not going back to Germany in the near future.
Excellent footage!
Damn, they looked raggedy. Must of had a hell of a hard time taking the city.
I really like the raw footage, just wish it had sound.
The cameras didn't have mics, so any sounds would just be dubbed.
Hawk 777 Only very few did and they would have been too bulky and cumbersome to deploy in a battle.
They were clockwork cameras. The clockwork cameras in Private Ryan and Band of Brothers recorded sound without a microphone!

Pew pew pew. Ka boom!

A roll of carpet won't detonate any buried land mines though.
Never seen that footage before....I enjoyed it.
highlights the 57mm gun in action and that guy using the MP40.
Robert Pearson
That 57mm cannon should have been put in the Stuart tank with a high velocity long anti-tank barrel using a high velocity anti-tank shell.
The footage is clear as a bell it must have been stored correctly
Rare footage of an American GI using an mp 40 in combat
Salut 😊 si vous avez des vidéos vous pouvez me les mettre merci

Ross manly, take your paranoiac discrimination somewhere else.
The German at 2:41 (with poncho and a roll accross his front) is the same guy as at 7:23.
While assigned to Patton's 3rd Army, they carried out this (Cherbourg) operation attached to VII Corps of 1st Army.
Patton's 3nd Army wasn't activated yet. So the 79th was part of 1st Army at that time.
4:50 Those Bangalores were effective.
Pillboxes? These are standard heavy casemates and bunkers!!
1:31 to 2:00 wow! They sure did hate that wall.
The Cans " He must hate these Cans " ? stay away from the cans . ( Steve Martin )
typical son of a bitch
You see, this is exactly why your platoon Sergeant told you not to pinch Wehrmacht kit! You don't
have the right stuff to maintain it.
These brave men fought for a free & better world .
On reflection did that happen ?
Yes. Everything is actually pretty fantastic. More people are living outside of absolute poverty than ever before in history. Conflicts today kill less than ever before. And modern medicine has increased the life expectancy of people across the globe.

Ross - I call fake news on you...
Green Man. No, we still are not free.

8:23 Scoped '03.
yes, noticed that 1903A4. Unfortunately the scope was only 2.5 power, not very good, but nice to see in action.
Larger FOV
How come all these German POWs are all old guys who look like their in their 50s and 60s?
Towards the end of the war, Germany was using young boys and old men for their last stand.
1.10 G.I. has `got mit uns` belt buckle & what is possibly a Luger in a holster.
Great eye man. He also has his .45 in his hand.
looks like Germans at that point had nothing serious to respond to the fire of that American canon
Sniper at 8.20 just after John wayne...
M1 carbine jammed 8:47
6:00
6:20
Specific dates would have been useful.
Have you got the internet? The dates for the siege of Cherbourg and the surrender can be found in a few seconds. Glad to help.
WEAPON IN THE MIN 06:10?
Looks like a German MP 40.
That one Lieutenant with the bar on his helmet is aching to be "sniper-bait".....
Look closer, he already was. Bullet hole in his helmet
Dats how we do it in da Bronx.
2: 46 a german´s habit
4:31 Bangalore Torpedo...
Some narration would have been nice.
Poor drills on those machine guns. Must be unfamiliar with the weapons.
Shantyman47 yeah that's why they are soldiers and you know nothing
At 5:58 the soldier is using an MP40, so he is probably unfamiliar with it. He controls it well though.
I am an ex soldier and I do know what I am talking about. Try again.
Great, I was hoping a keyboard warrior would chime in with a stupid comment.
