so cool to see that your 11 yr old son is interested in tech , as most are to interested in vid games , cheers your doing somthing right m8 . guys like Stu are getting fewer and fewer , my father had me in the machine shop helping when i was 9 yrs old ,
I have a machine shop and he is better than me on some things. I think you have to invest time for it to work. I'm very thankful for people like Stu who are willing to share their knowledge without being boastful, someone you want to follow.
i agree John its the best boat repair site that is available and Stu is very talented and interesting to watch and listen, down to earth dude . cheers all the best
You have been on here so long you help me so much i wish I could gave and help you more what we do without people like you we where just lost thank you soooooo muchhhhhh love John.
I swear you are my Honda BF40 Jesus, right now. I am looking at doing all the routine maintenance (heavier stuff) like the belt, timing, compression, lifter service and so on, and you have all the videos I need. Thank you thank you thank you thank you!
Dude! I hope you are a teacher. It's such a pleasure to listen to you, I guess even a chimp could adjust valves after watching your video. Same for your carburetor vid. Thanks a lot.
GREAT VIDEO !!! My BF50A had allot of valve tapping... I used this video to adjust valve clearances and it runs like new. Quiet and just purs like a kitten. Thanks Again!
Thanks Stu. I did my 50 Honda six months ago. It's reassuring to see I did it correctly. Looking fwd to the belt change. Mine was easier than the workshop lead me to believe.
Love the 4 stroke videos, will like to see more of it. Including description on external components like ECM, sensors and a bit into the electrical stuff. Thank you
We used to describe it this way: It should feel like a little bit of "sucking". Good to have some oil resting on the metal. Additionally it won't hurt to try the next bigger and next smaller size of gauges if you are not sure. If one of these fits, too, you have to check again. Especially with the exhaust valves where temperature is critically.
Great video, I'll have to check the valve clearance on my Honda 60 in the future and this video was very educational since I've never done it before. Thanks.
G day mate great video very well explained and it is good to see you enjoying another of the series of the finest brew known to mankind sold all over the world ,walked into a supermarket in bangkok and there it was . Valve clearance can be daugnting to the newcomer but do it a few times and no problems as long as you don't get the gauges mixed up . your explanations are spot on you should do a series of cds and flog em i rekon they would go like hot cakes again great video .
CD-ROM drives are not found on most computers now as they are going the same way as floppy drives. Most information is on line for free, and can be downloaded to keep. A cheap flash drive will hold many times the volume of information and is a tenth of the size.
Another great vid Stu. Love the appearance of PPE at the start 😉. Look forward to seeing a vid about the bimini for the Green Machine as I need to do some work the battered one on my boat. Cheers PB
Very well done Mate; You make it look so easy. Think you will make a video on mixing gas and oil in an easy to understand way. I get confused 50:1 or 32:1 mix. Thanks !!!. for your hard work.
50:1 is easy, in litres. What ever you put in the tank, in litres, double it, add a zero and put that many millilitres of oil in the fuel. So 25L of petrol x 2 = 50 = 500mL of oil. For 25:1 you multiply x 4 25L of petrol x 4= 100 = 1000Ml of oil ( 1l) For 32:1 you multiply by 3 25L x 3 =75 = 750mL of oil.
Another great chapter mate... I must say it was great to see you wearing safety glasses during the intro. You never know what could go wrong before you get the puller out hehehe
Ah brings back a story to share. I had a 65 VW that fire burned up the side of one of the plugs and ruined the head. I also had a 68 VW bus that the crank broke. I took both heads off and put them on the bug. Went to start it and the rockers all were too tight and stopped turning the key since there was no compression with all the valves open. no damage so gave up and went back in the house to think. Then got an idea💡. I went back out and got a hand full of washers and raise all the rocker assemblies up and set all the gaps per spec. It worked and there was allot of🍺 to celebrate. my brother bought it and ran great for years before he sold it still with my washers on it. Moral of the story once a hack always a hack. haha
very helpful video! and I had a few chuckles too! I presume that valves wear with use, so I have difficulty imagining that they get tighter on their own unless someone misadjusted them.
My Honda 30BF (2006) manuel says: To avoid water pump impeller damage, Always turn the crankshaft in a CLOCKWISE direction. In your video you shows counterclockwise...........so what is richt? Thank you for all your educational explanes!
I wonder if there is a difference between the 30HP and this being a 40HP. If the flywheel has notches for a rope to emergency start the motor you can use those to show you which way your motor rotates.
Paul Bouquet Didn't you know that where he lives the water flushes opposite direction down the toilet, same with engines they turn opposite directions 😅
Superbly thorough, perfect visuals. This is the default video on this subject. Where do you find accurate manuals? Are you an authorized dealer of every brand with access to their tech web sites? Do you recommend any public websites or generic manuals? Please do a video on finding specifications.
Thanks Bruce, I have for some time been thinking of doing a video on tracking down information, I should do that one sooner rather than later. I usually look to readmanual.com or tradebit.com to find PDF manuals I can download.
Actually I never ever wanted to set a foot on australia... because of all the snackes and spiders and flying boomrangs.... But after watching a couple of your videos I officially declare that the "australian" way of being relaxed and doing things easy and explaining things in a very cool way ... I guess I book a ticket one day.
Thank you so very much. I adjusted my valves on my Honda 50 and I found... wow way too tight! I adjusted to what I thought was correct. Engine then ran awful and sounded "clacky" horrible idle and was cutting out at planing speed. Problem: I adjusted the mm clearance to inches! Way too loose. Be careful out there, read the manual and Pay Attention! .. or maybe I'm the only dumbass alive. Thanks for great vid. Oh well time for another beer.
If timing marks are not available securing a micrometer through the spark plug opening and watching to see when the deflection of the needle stops moving and then starts to move the other way is a good way to determine TDC.
With 4 strokes as long as the piston is TDC (shine a torch through the spark plug hole, watch the piston. when it stops moving up or down, its close enough, 5 degrees either side makes no difference) the rockers will be on the back of the cam and the gaps can be set.
can you give us examples that would lead to identification of a burnt valve that would lead to inspecting the valve clearance for possible cuprite, thanks for all your videos.
Hi stu can you do a befor and after video on the hydro foil fins on the boat while its running . Ie: to see how much it lifts the back end out the water , hole shot timming and reduced drag .
Excellent video i am gonna try it in my BF30D. I got also the manuals. Another video request by me. Could you please show us how to change the two internal anodes in these BFs. Especially the one that is behind the carbs. Greetings from Greece!
Ahhh the "green Machine" at last... was getting worried here ;) Is there an interval at which these valves should be adjusted or just when you hear them tap? Nice to see your boat.
Good vid, I would definately suggest a small amount of black silicone in the 4 corners of your valve cover gasket or there's a very good chance it'll leak
So far no leaks, but yes, they do call for RTV on many curved sections of valve cover gaskets, you are right. Normally it is more on sections that curve up away from the plane of the main gasket to go around the cam ends though.
Man, I wish you would do one with a bucket shim valve system. There is no good instruction on the interwebs explaining how to do this on a suzuki or Yamaha outboard.
thanks for these interesting videos. could you provide some help to people away from US? I have a johnson seahorse 25 hp outboard of 1980 rope start. it is equipped with a flywheel of 74 tooth. I would like to upgrade it to a electric starter. I am confused with the starters available in the market as they have 9, 10 and 11 tooth pinions. how to solve this technical problem. what pinion fits the 74 tooth flywheel?
Hi Stu, I appreciate your videos, thanks! I'm trying to fix an issue that I caused on my Yamaha F40 outboard (4-stroke). It's already cost me $800 to the Yamaha dealer who thought that cleaned the carbs was the problem but I was sure it wasn't. Retuned the engine no better off. What happened was, in a momentary lapse of reason, or due to lack of experience, I cranked the engine with the timing belt off. I know .. I found out later this is a big no-no. Do you know what problems does could have caused? After doing this the engine starts and runs okay, but has about 80 per-cent of power at full throttle and sounds quite ragged and noisy. From what I understand I might have bent a valve or something. Any help or suggestions you can give me would be appreciated.
Hi Russell, yes, bent valves is common as some of the valves will be open and therefore hit this piston. I would take the head off and check all the valves. The easiest thing is probably give it to a machine shop and get them to resuface it and grind the valve seats at the same time. It will be better than it was before the accident if you get that done.
What does it mean if I have my settings to t1 tappets have play like in your video however cylinder 2 intake has play too but the exhaust valve doesn’t move. Cylinder 3 intake is tight and the exhaust side has play. Also I can move the crankshaft by hand is this ok(I have carbs off too)? Thanks
Just a quick question, when you're torqueing the lock nuts, how do you prevent the grub screws from rotating? Obviously cant get a screwdriver on them when using a torque wrench. Many thanks
can you do a video on which outboards you have found to be the most reliable as in best built motors? im looking at a boat with a 2002 mercury EFI 200 outboard, its a little corroded on the lower unit, looks like it has been sitting in the water for quite some time. thanks
It's a little bit hard to compare, as I've seen outboards of all models fail young and last forever. It seems to more come down to how well they have been maintained and a bit of luck too!
Hi Stu, suggestion for you. One is how to transport a old 2 stroke kicker motor in a car and be able to start it with a dry carburetor? Seems to be an issue with my son's merc even after pumping up the fuel ball but finally starts after many pulls. The choke works fine once the carb has fuel in it.
Had it all apart and checked it. I test started it everyday it was here and started right up. But after he puts it in his trunk and puts it on his boat has trouble starting it. Twice now this has happened? It's a strange one for sure. 1969 carburetor so it's a antique.
Great vid Stu! What are you're thoughts on hydrofoils? Some people say its a scam and others swear by them. I don't have a problem planing with my 50 merc even with a heavy load, but would be interested if it really makes a difference. Maybe when you do the video you could time you're planing speed with and without hydrofoil. That would be another vid that im sure a lot of people would like to see real facts and not just people saying "It feels like it planes better". Keep up the good work bud!!!
I think it depends a lot on whether there is a problem to solve with either the hull shape or the height the engine is mounted. I don't really have much before and after experience with them so I'll be interested in doing a good comparison myself.
Question for you , could this be why my engine isn’t keeping the ball hard and pauses on take off, I have replaced the fuel and have been running sea foam very frequently. It runs great but o have to pump the ball constantly, any ideas for this 2009 BF50 in board tank ?
Hi sir. It is posible to make a mouie instaling a power trim on a 40hp Honda 4 stroke ? I am interested in electric sistem.. I bought the trim but I don't know the wayering
I think my Yamaha fourstroke 115 also need to check about those valve clearance because it had been 1400 hours now. By the manual said to be adjust every 1000 hours as I remember. But it was a DOHC beside of SOHC shown in this video. I am not mechanic but just learn so much in your video, is that any tips about fine tuning the DOHC engine valve clearance? Or just need to look clear about those intake and exhaust direction and then good to follow your instructions? Thanks!
thanks for the video, I have a question about some silicone that may or may not be missing around the bottom of the oil pan and the gear case. Should it be completely around? It seems like there is none around the front portion, my engine has 607 hours and is used in salt water only.
Thanks, I actually pulled off the other side of plastic and it is not sealed there either, so I think I'm okay. I like your videos and will look forward to seeing more Honda 4-stroke videos
It is generally the same for all four stroke engines so you'll be able to find some good vids on it, but the basic idea is to make sure the piston is pushing air out the spark plug hole so you know it is on the compression stroke not the exhaust stroke and then put a straw or something in the spark plug hole so you can see when the piston is at the top of it's travel.
Hi Matt. Not directly, we only deal with small commuter boats here so nothing over about 60HP, but I can't see why it would be significantly different.
Great video Stu! When checking the clearances, do you use a feeler gauge that corresponds to the upper or lower limit of the spec range, or do you split the difference?
Hey mate thank you so much for all the knowledge you sharing I would like to ask you a question. Can i use the carbs from a 150hp two stroke jonhson on a 115 hp same year. Would that cause a problem on the smaller engine??
I'm not sure if they are the same, but if they are the same part number you will probably find you need to put smaller jets in to keep the air / fuel ratio correct.
For newer readers like myself, it's worth noting that if the carb intake diameter is too big the air velocity could be too slow and not suck out enough petrol, too small and you can't run at full speed as the engine will be throttled
Pardon me,because I am not well in English.I have a doubt about my40hp Yamaha outboard engine four stroke.I found engine oil out at third cylinder.so what is the cause of.please kindly advise me.thank you.
Hey Stu thanks for another great video guide. I've got a BF135 2006 with 400 hours here and just wondering does it need valve clearance adjustment yet? Honda states it should be done every 200 hours but I've heard it can be done every 600 to even 1000 hours? Cheers
Hi from Sweden i really like your videos they are educational. i have a older 2 stroke suzuki 20 hp. When i pull the starter rope it starts revs up 15 sec then dies. The petrol pump pumps petrol to the carburetor and i have sparks on both sparkspluggs what can the problem be ? Sincerely zibbe1000
Could be that it is lean. Does it have a choke that is on? Are the carburettors clean? If that is all good then I would start to look at the reed valves as well.
the shirts are produced in the states so should be fine. Stu posted a link in earlier videos ..I'm sure he will re-post for you here. Great shirts. I wear mine quite often
Link is in the description of each video, and yes they are printing in the US so you get them faster then we do! Prices are in Australian dollars so they are cheaper than they seem.
Noob here... What happens when you need an old part for a carb and all the parts places say obsolete? Are you hooped? Need a high speed nozzle for and old evinrude. Can you replace a carb with a newer same size one or is that hard to do with old outboards and newer parts?
You have a few options. There are companies around that sell nothing but aftermarket jets for carburettors so you could try there. I believe Sierra also sell complete aftermarket carburettors so you could also go that way. Another option to is to try a wrecker.
hey whats up RYAN here from Trinidad and Tobago i have a problem on my yamaha 85 hp it wont idle down an i think the timing is off have you any specs for that engine and how can i adjust the idle
Hi Ryan. Sounds like you are on the money if the carburettors are closed all the way and the idle is still too high. It is either going to be a vacuum leak the timing too advanced. Not sure what it should be set to, but I'd put a light on it now and see what it is then move it closer to TDC (presuming it isn't already ATDC) and see how the idle sounds.
You are a very good teacher Stu. My 11 yr old grandson understands every word you say. Thank you for the experience!
so cool to see that your 11 yr old son is interested in tech , as most are to interested in vid games , cheers your doing somthing right m8 . guys like Stu are getting fewer and fewer , my father had me in the machine shop helping when i was 9 yrs old ,
I have a machine shop and he is better than me on some things. I think you have to invest time for it to work. I'm very thankful for people like Stu who are willing to share their knowledge without being boastful, someone you want to follow.
i agree John its the best boat repair site that is available and Stu is very talented and interesting to watch and listen, down to earth dude . cheers all the best
Well done sir! Very clear in depth instruction rarely seen these days. I'd say you're a natural teacher.
Thanks Todd, glad you liked it.
You're welcome Eric. I still hope to do a timing belt video on that motor soon.
Dangar Marine what year is your motor btw?
2004
Thanks mate, glad the vid helped you get your honda purring again. :)
Thanks Stu.
I did my 50 Honda six months ago.
It's reassuring to see I did it correctly.
Looking fwd to the belt change. Mine was easier than the workshop lead me to believe.
Thanks William. Yep, belt changes aren't too bad. There are a few finer points but definitely something you can DIY if you are careful.
Thank you Stu for your kindness in sharing your endless wealth of knowledge.
I like the idea of trying one up and one down to compare the feel, that's a good tip.
Great lesson Stu. Another video full of good tips and knowledge. I don't own a four stroke outboard, but who knows what the future could bring!
Thanks Jack, this process is the same for plenty of different types four stroke motors (other that outboards) so always worth knowing!
Big up Danger Marine. Your video are super helpful. I’m a yammy Tech out here in Atlanta . Thanks for all your hard work and knowledge. Mike.
Thanks Michael, glad you liked it!
Great video, I'll have to check the valve clearance on my Honda 60 in the future and this video was very educational since I've never done it before. Thanks.
Thanks for the instruction, really clear and helped me a lot with my little outboard motor.
Thank you, very helpful! I have a 2009 Honda 50 with water in the oil. Hoping it is just a head gasket but might need to do a valve job. Great Video!
Your told it’s a poking facilities device but it’s just a stick. OMG. Stu that’s priceless. Keep em Colin bud !!!
Absurdly amazing vids. Thanks for the lesson, All I need now is my 25 bf service manual
Thanks mate.

Sru, The valve clearance is to offset the effects of thermal & mechanical distortion! Cheers Bill from, Bundaberg.
Yep, it is. If they start tight then by the time the engine warms up they won't close properly and will burn up.
another great production thx Stu , i like the melo yellow glasses at the intro , cheers thx for sharing m8
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed. :)
Another great vid Stu. Love the appearance of PPE at the start 😉. Look forward to seeing a vid about the bimini for the Green Machine as I need to do some work the battered one on my boat. Cheers PB
Thanks mate, should be filming the bimini today with any luck.
Very well done Mate; You make it look so easy. Think you will make a video on mixing gas and oil in an easy to understand way. I get confused 50:1 or 32:1 mix. Thanks !!!. for your hard work.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the vid. I prefer to run a 41.6:1 mix myself. ;)
50:1 is easy, in litres.
What ever you put in the tank, in litres, double it, add a zero and put that many millilitres of oil in the fuel.
So 25L of petrol x 2 = 50 = 500mL of oil.
For 25:1 you multiply x 4
25L of petrol x 4= 100 = 1000Ml of oil ( 1l)
For 32:1 you multiply by 3
25L x 3 =75 = 750mL of oil.
easy as Stu - just use the devils number!25L x 1.6666666666 + 0= 466mLs
Another great chapter mate... I must say it was great to see you wearing safety glasses during the intro. You never know what could go wrong before you get the puller out hehehe

Nice work Tim. In modern hydraulic lifters shimming is the only way to adjust them. You were ahead of your time! ;)
i acutually had valve clearance as one of the tasks for my final exam, and got the best grade(6) it was on a 6 cylinder deutz diesel engine.
Nice, well done! :)
very helpful video! and I had a few chuckles too!
I presume that valves wear with use, so I have difficulty imagining that they get tighter on their own unless someone misadjusted them.
You want to feel a slight drag when using feeler gauges.Good video mate.
Thanks mate.
Great info. Will come in handy. Peace and be safe out there.
Thanks mate!
you good buddy, really easy to understand. keep up the good work,
Nice video on a Honda. Setting the carbs to a vacuum mate to balance the carbs would make a great video
Hi John, this video can a section on vacuum balancing ua-cam.com/video/bsHCMJnRY9A/v-deo.html
As usual, outstanding video. Thanks for your time.

I removed de black plastic cover. The flywheel shows an Arrow in clockwise direction. My Honda 30 BF (2006) is operating in the Netherlands.
i have a 2007 honda 15HP i am rebuilding and the flywheel and the shop manual both say it goes clockwise. strange.

You wouldn't be the first to get caught up in imperial / metric confusion!
Great video mate
Thanks 👍
Hi Stu,
Great videro,helped a lot.
How can you tell that you have a burned valve?
Another very educational video thank you
Great video, just what I needed, thanks

Yep, it's good to have some of these techniques up your sleeve as plenty of motors don't have good timing marks unfortunately.
I’ve adjusted valve clearance on a Honda Civic 4 cylinders. It’s fairly the same procedure.
Thanks-really clear instructions
Glad it helped. :)
can you give us examples that would lead to identification of a burnt valve that would lead to inspecting the valve clearance for possible cuprite, thanks for all your videos.
Beer for getting the job done, Sailor Jerry for when shit hits the fan.
All bases covered!
love these videos!
As always, very helpful!
You're the man!
Hi, great video, would this procedure be the same for all outboards or just Honda’s I have a 2001 mariner 4 stroke 50hp? Many thanks 👍
Thank you very much. You helped me.
Hi stu can you do a befor and after video on the hydro foil fins on the boat while its running . Ie: to see how much it lifts the back end out the water , hole shot timming and reduced drag .
For sure, that's my plan for the vid.
Excellent video i am gonna try it in my BF30D. I got also the manuals. Another video request by me. Could you please show us how to change the two internal anodes in these BFs. Especially the one that is behind the carbs. Greetings from Greece!
Thanks Christos. Yes, a vid on changing the internal anodes is long overdue!
very good video thank you

im looking at a boat with a 2002 mercury EFI 200 outboard, its a little corroded on the lower unit, looks like it has been sitting in the water for quite some time.
thanks
It's a little bit hard to compare, as I've seen outboards of all models fail young and last forever. It seems to more come down to how well they have been maintained and a bit of luck too!
thanks for the reply mate, i will be looking farther into the service history of this motor.
very well explained
Hi Stu, suggestion for you. One is how to transport a old 2 stroke kicker motor in a car and be able to start it with a dry carburetor? Seems to be an issue with my son's merc even after pumping up the fuel ball but finally starts after many pulls. The choke works fine once the carb has fuel in it.
That sounds a bit strange. Once you prime it up with the bulb the carb bowl should be full and ready to go. Is the needle and seat sticking maybe?
Had it all apart and checked it. I test started it everyday it was here and started right up. But after he puts it in his trunk and puts it on his boat has trouble starting it. Twice now this has happened? It's a strange one for sure. 1969 carburetor so it's a antique.
Another mystery demystified. Good one Stu. ps. You correctly said it's not rocket science.............It is Rocker Science Haha !
Boom tish! Love your work. ;)
1998 evinrude 70hp four stroke u know if they need valve adjustment or u can’t cause they use shims?
Awesome video ! do you know what the clearance spec is on a BF50? I’m guessing the same but I don’t have the manual
I don't have the manual for the 50 either but I would be surprised if they were different.
Very nice video
Thanks you
Question for you , could this be why my engine isn’t keeping the ball hard and pauses on take off, I have replaced the fuel and have been running sea foam very frequently. It runs great but o have to pump the ball constantly, any ideas for this 2009 BF50 in board tank ?
No, sounds more like a failed fuel pump.
Hi sir. It is posible to make a mouie instaling a power trim on a 40hp Honda 4 stroke ? I am interested in electric sistem.. I bought the trim but I don't know the wayering
Pressed Play... Saw the PPE Glasses and thought Ohh No, He is throwing bolts around again....
OK, Time to press play and see what happens :P
Its like an old western around here with the ricochet sound track. ;)
Thanks!
Hi Jerry, yes, you just need to determine the exhaust and intake sides and follow the same procedure.
Lol I feel like the safety glasses at the beginning are nod to all the comments on the previous video.
Would you prefer to be at the big or small end of the range given? Does it change intake vs exhaust?
Bigger is better than smaller. If the gap is too small the valves won't close properly and you can lose compression and burnt up the valves.
Dangar Marine hi Sit, love your videos. Any idea why my 1982 90 HP Evinrude will run with muffs on but when in lake & put in gear it quits?
Exhaust valves have hot gasses and flames around them whereas intakes have cooling petrol round so they run cooler hence the bigger exhaust gap
thanks for the video, I have a question about some silicone that may or may not be missing around the bottom of the oil pan and the gear case. Should it be completely around? It seems like there is none around the front portion, my engine has 607 hours and is used in salt water only.
Yes, I would expect the oil pan to be sealed completely unless one section presses against a rubber gasket or something.
Thanks, I actually pulled off the other side of plastic and it is not sealed there either, so I think I'm okay. I like your videos and will look forward to seeing more Honda 4-stroke videos
Hi, have you maybe some suggestion on how to detect the TDC for each cylinder on Yamaha Fxx engines?
It is generally the same for all four stroke engines so you'll be able to find some good vids on it, but the basic idea is to make sure the piston is pushing air out the spark plug hole so you know it is on the compression stroke not the exhaust stroke and then put a straw or something in the spark plug hole so you can see when the piston is at the top of it's travel.
Great vid stu. Do you have any experience with the BF150 valve clearances? We have 3 of them, and it's the only job I send the shops way...Cheers
Hi Matt. Not directly, we only deal with small commuter boats here so nothing over about 60HP, but I can't see why it would be significantly different.
Great video Stu! When checking the clearances, do you use a feeler gauge that corresponds to the upper or lower limit of the spec range, or do you split the difference?
That's a really good question. I would generally go as close to the middle of the range as I could
Excellent!
Do you have to drain the oil - I didn't see you do that - is the oil lower in the engine thanx mate !!
No, all the oil will drain from the rocker cover down into the sump soon after the motor is switched off.
What videos I've seen are engine repairs, have you done any small fiberglass repair videos?
No, no fibreglass repair videos yet but planning to do one before too much longer.
Hey. Please can you tell me the valve clearance for suzuki DF2,5hp 2017 and if the engine must be hot or cold. Thank you Nik from Greece.
Don't know sorry, if you search for the PDF service manual online you will find them.
Hola desde argentina no manejo ingles en frio que número de holgura llevan las válvulas
Pardon me,because I am not well in English.I have a doubt about my40hp Yamaha outboard engine four stroke.I found engine oil out at third cylinder.so what is the cause of.please kindly advise me.thank you.
Oil in cylinders is generally a blown head gasket is 4 stroke or a cylinder not firing if 2 stroke.
Hey Stu thanks for another great video guide. I've got a BF135 2006 with 400 hours here and just wondering does it need valve clearance adjustment yet? Honda states it should be done every 200 hours but I've heard it can be done every 600 to even 1000 hours? Cheers
I wouldn't stress too much unless you can hear a lot of valve train noise (a sort of clattery sound)
Hi from Sweden
i really like your videos they are educational.
i have a older 2 stroke suzuki 20 hp.
When i pull the starter rope it starts revs up 15 sec then dies.
The petrol pump pumps petrol to the carburetor and i have sparks on both sparkspluggs
what can the problem be ?
Sincerely zibbe1000
Could be that it is lean. Does it have a choke that is on? Are the carburettors clean? If that is all good then I would start to look at the reed valves as well.
Oh I want to order a shirt. How do I get one ordered to the states and shipping cost?
the shirts are produced in the states so should be fine. Stu posted a link in earlier videos ..I'm sure he will re-post for you here. Great shirts. I wear mine quite often
Thanks
Link is in the description of each video, and yes they are printing in the US so you get them faster then we do! Prices are in Australian dollars so they are cheaper than they seem.
Thanks
Hi Stu.
Do the new Mercury efi 4 strokes need their valves adjusted?
Not sure. The really new motors may have hydraulic lifters like cars have an not need adjusting. The service schedule should say.
Thank you Stu!
What would the clearances be on a Bf100a?
And torque settings for the locknuts?
hey whats up RYAN here from Trinidad and Tobago i have a problem on my yamaha 85 hp it wont idle down an i think the timing is off have you any specs for that engine and how can i adjust the idle
Hi Ryan. Sounds like you are on the money if the carburettors are closed all the way and the idle is still too high. It is either going to be a vacuum leak the timing too advanced. Not sure what it should be set to, but I'd put a light on it now and see what it is then move it closer to TDC (presuming it isn't already ATDC) and see how the idle sounds.
great, thank you
What clearance for honda bf50
Yeh, my Tee-shirt has arrived. Now I just need a Coopers and a camera
Nice one! Looking forward to getting your photo. :)
WHAT!? Safety glasses? What did you do?
He nearly lost an eye when a beer cap got away from him....or was it a puller bolt that broke...I forget...Good on ya Stu, safety first!
