      That's crazy to think about! I guess the performance of a stock, manual, V8 R8 isn't insane but man, I have to think we're getting near the bottom of the prices for nice examples of these cars. What do you think?

      @@jpetro I'm very glad the V10 exist to help keep the V8 prices down. I'd expect the cheapest one ever to be no lower than $40K, but it's so hard to predict without a proper comparison. They just don't seem to have the pedigree of Porsche or Ferrari. They're an amazing performance bargain though. Depreciation is good for me ha

      @@heyhayhay247 Well said and agreed! If they touch the 40's for a clean example...it'd be a hard deal to pass up. I always wanted to do the RWD mod to mine. I've heard/read it completely transforms the car.

    This is the first of your 8 videos on your R8. I've always thought owning an R8 would be my dream car for many years. Not because I've been a multi Audi owner for over 12 years but since the first Iron Man movie. Yes, I said it. However, I've been in a financial position for over a year to buy a used R8 outright, cash. In the last 6 months I've been searching on the various forums (Audizine, Audiworld, R8 Talk and R8 Coral on FB). And of course beating the YT channel up for all of the R8 videos I could find. To date, I wish I found this video first. You were perfectly on point to all of my main concerns and every aspect you covered, were all of the same ones I had seen on other social media. But the way you put it all together in one video just nails it. I still haven't got to your other 7 R8 videos which I will be doing after posting this, but I'm curious you never touched on the AC compressor which is supposed one of the main bugs. Was your carbon cleaning the walnut shell media blasting type? Did you notice any difference after that carbon cleaning?
    I believe you're right that the used R8 market is quite low and shopping at this time of year is probably in my best effort. Having said that, I believe I've found the R8 that will meet my needs. It's a 08 R-Tronic with about 44k miles. It's one owner who installed a Heffner TT kit in 2010. It appears this previous owner had more then enough funds to ensure every maintenance item was covered. I'm curious what your thoughts are on a Heffner TT V8?
    Again, thank you so much for helping me probably getting over the hump to commit to buying that R8. Cheers.

    • @jpetro
      @jpetro  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for the comment! I'm stoked for you, the R8 is a fantastic car, you'll love every minute of it! It's funny, I was just thinking about making ANOTHER, "R8 Market Price" video. I was cruising R8Talk and saw a bunch of manual V10's under $90k which blew my mind!
      You've definitely done your research and I'm glad you're not letting the 44k miles scare you off of the V8 you mention. These cars are awesome, I'd rather have one with 44k miles that's been taken care of than 5k miles and never driven.
      As far as the AC compressor, I never had any issues in either the V10 or the SC'd V8 I owned. In regards to the carbon cleaning, yes, it was done with walnut shell and I didn't really notice a difference because it didn't *really* need it. I more so did it because the SC'er was coming off to replace belts and pulley's so I figured it would be the best time to do it regardless.
      I'm sure you've already checked but just make sure you have a look at the infamous frame crack on the 08. As far as Heffner, I only know them by reputation. From what I know and have heard they're a solid company and a solid TT setup. I'm sure you're already doing this but I'd just set aside some cash for oil leaks, things like that. They'll happen but it's not the end of the world.
      If you get it, drive the wheels off of it and enjoy it, they were meant for it!
      Cheers Brother!

      @@jpetro You're most welcome. Well deserved. And yes, please, do an R8 Market Price video. I did see one that that covered something like that by a European chap and the numbers and graphs he was flashing by at warp speed had my head spinning. I think I got the core points from that video insofaras this year has been a good year to buy a used R8 and I'll take that one step further to assume that this time of the year (beginning of winter) will encourage dealerships to be more receptive to better price dickering.
      As a side note, I did watch all of Sam Craccs videos and that front frame / strut mount cracking issue keeps playing in the back of my mind. Another UA-camr (Watch JR Go) has me a bit concerned with his Heffner TT V8 with the cracked piston. I would dearly like to know the history behind that piston damage.
      As far as the R-Tronic feature, I'm a little less intimidated by it after much greater research. Using an upgraded clutch/flywheel or the V10 clutch/flywheel (direct drop-in) along with a TCU tune and in concert with sport mode, makes a huge difference in the R-Tronic now. I would hope so. Audi and the tuning world have had 10 years to get creative with work-arounds and upgrades to make the R-tronic more reliable and more user friendly.

      @@World_So_Cold I did buy it. Funny you mention a 350Z. I still own a RHD JDM 1990 300ZX with 572whp/590wtq. I've owned it for 14 years and have attended Z Nationals and ZCon numerous times over the years as well as ZDayZ at Tail of The Dragon.
      I bought that R8 TT last Nov. I later found the previous owner spared no expense for not only maintenance but also replaced the magride (which fails on all Gen1's) with H&R RSS+ coilovers. He spent over $8k on a custom carpc install replacing B&O speakers with Focal. Added a Focal powered sub and two Mosconi amps. He did the oem CF engine bay and he installed HRE 3pc wheels. I can tell by the pitting of the the headlights and front bumper that the car saw considerable highway miles which IMO is much better then lower mileage ones that have mostly saw short trips in urban driving. I'm really enjoying it and I think I've found the right technique in using the R-Tronic.

    Good video. Other R8 issues and maintenance costs i incurred when i owned the V8 was oil sensor £300, Air con compressor around £800 fitted, front brake pads and discs £1,200 fitted, main service £1,500, rear spoiler switch (comes as one unit) £600, starter motor £400 fitted. I had the R tronic too and agree the manual is better. Thankfully I didn’t have the mag ride, so didn’t have that leaking issue that was common in the 08-09. I did get the struts done as you mentioned. It wasn’t a full recall, but Audi said if i paid for one corner, they would do the rest for no charge. Cost me around £800, but would have been £3,000+. Even though they cost a lot to maintain, they put a big smile on your face. I would recommend an annual budget of £10,000 for maintenance and repairs

    • @jpetro
      @jpetro  4 роки тому

      All good points and yes, I agree on the maintenance budget. I'm curious to see how far these drop in price. I'm not sure what they're doing where you're located but the V8's have taken a huge hit to pricing over here in the USA. Even the V10's you can find in manual for under $100k with semi low mileage!

      J Petro i sold mine in January 2018 in the UK with 93,000 on the clock for around $38,000, which i was pleased with given the millage. I bought it with 22,000 on the clock, so definitely got some good use out of it over a 5 year period. As you said in your video, depending on spec and mileage for a 08-09 V8 it could be anything between £30,000-£45,000 the last time i looked. The manual will likely get classic car status sometime soon, so that could affect prices moving forward. Btw, hearing that V8 again at the start brought back great memories. Catch you soon

    I got an 08 Audi R8 in December of last year. It needed some repairs which were a leak in the actuator for the transmission, It had 2 bad front shocks that caused the windshield wiper arm to scratch the windshield because the bushing was crushed and lowered the car. I got BC Racing coilovers with Swift springs to replace them. A anti freeze coolant tank leak which is common. All total price $3450 with parts and labor and the dealership took care of the repairs. I paid $500 for the deductible and another $500 for a 6 year 60K mile warranty. The Audi had 27k on the clock which was a steal. So your $5k for the car in my experience is accurate. I love this car it is a attention getter everywhere I go. My only regret is its an auto, my first car that isn't a stick. But this car cost me$50K!!! I just could not pass up this deal when the manual with more than double the miles was $75k!

    I am might be buying a 2011 v10 with stasis extreme setup. But I have a question. How reliable is the supercharger? If it breaks, will it be hard to find the right parts for the supercharger since they no longer in business? Thank you.

    • @jpetro
      @jpetro  5 років тому +1

      Yo! Ooh man, that'd be sweet! The supercharger is literally a rebranded VF unit. When I ordered pulleys/belts for mine, we went through VF. It was super reliable. Since it was an Audi option back in the day, it's somewhat "tuned down" if that makes sense. If you were to get a new VF unit/tune/kit, it would be faster but I mean, "faster" is relative...these things are already fast. Slap a blower on it and its a rocket ship, lol. Make sure it's been maintained and it'll be fine. Buy and and enjoy it! Cheers bro!
