An automatic water/gas separator is very simple - almost as simple as the manual one you show here. Instead of having a valve you must keep opening and closing, it has a floater that rises when the water level is high and there is a little hole that lets water back down into the reservoir when the floater is up. If there isn't enough back pressure to force the water out of the water/gas separator and into reservoir then put a valve on the hydrogen output and close it partially. Water should be automatically draining into your tank even with with H2 outlet not connected to anything.
