too many other vids they dont even use the shunt tester, and for me, my question was just the basic "order of operations"
so you just go to ANY socket on the string, plug in and click the shunt test until you get lights! the other tools can assist you from there, but this guy has the right demo here finally

Can anyone tell me why on my pre-lit tree all the bulbs would burn out at the same time? Last I use the tree it was working I had a couple strands out I took it out this year from storage plugged it in none of the lights work. Took the topper off looking at each section and it looks like massive amounts of bulbs are burnout I'm assuming if the bulb has black on it it's burnt correct what would cause that?
@@lsfogg my pre lit is the same way. sadly the reason is just that they use cheap garbage that fails so bad that even this tool cant repair the circuit. i think they plan on it going bad after 1-2 seasons so you go back to buy more. i just kept my burned out pre lit and added my own LED lights over it haha.

Thank you for your video. Your advice cost us 19.99 for the Light Keeper Pro, but saved us 300.00 on a new tree. It worked to fix all the lights not working, and there were a lot, on our 9ft. tree.

Thanks for your reply and thanks for posting this one. I went to Lowe's and picked up the Light Keeper Pro and will try to fix my tree. : ) After I bought the tree, I "primmed" each of the bulbs (all 300+ of them), which means I 'painted' each bulb with a mixture of silicone, cinnamon and nutmeg. The result is an old fashioned, amber bulb glow. Removing the bulbs will be a little tricky, plus I can't tell if a bulb is broken or burned out just visually. But alas, I am now armed with a Light Keeper Pro! Thanks again for your clear, concise videos. If I can fix this tree, you will be my hero!

Thank you for mentioning to pull the trigger 20-30 times! I was only pulling it about a dozen times as none of the other vids mentioned how many times to pull it. I actually had to pull it 42 times.

I can't thank you enough! Plugged in my tree, and only the middle 1/3 of the tree lit up. After watching your video and searching a couple local hardware stores who were sold out of this tool (trying to support local businesses), I purchased this at Target for $19.99. Used the tool on the top 1/3 and bottom 1/3 and now the entire tree is lit (apparently a shunt issue for both sections)! Amazing! Before watching your video, I had no idea that this tool existed! You saved me so much frustration in finding a new tree and the waste in trashing a tree that was perfectly good when fixed :) Thank you!

Our tree has built in lights was working when we put up. Went out for 10 minutes came back they were out. The switch to change colours was really warm mourned on again the white Color won’t come on but the other ones are workin.

So greatful for this video..had a pretty lit tree where only half the lights..got the new red gun and it saved me $500 not buying a new tree..plug the shunt in the gun.. pull the trigger ..replace a few bulbs and save some money!!!!!!!

Thanks for this. This tutorial was really helpful. The device? For $20 at Target, fixes the bulb plugs, tests current in line, tests fuses, tests bulbs and supplies batteries for the device and replacement bulbs. Don’t throw away your pre-lit tree until you try this tool! Thank you

Thanks for the great video! I have a Marth Stewart prelit tree that's about 4 years old. My problem is that the section thats not working keeps blowing the fused bulb. I can't visibly see a problem anywhere. I did purchase the Light Keeper Pro but, can't move forward due to this fused bulb issue. Thanks again for your great video. Ray

Thanks for the video! Found it when I pulled out a mini pre-lit tree from storage that we purchased last year, and no part of it would light up.
I went out and purchased a Light Keeper Pro, and found that there was voltage in the wires. I started testing bulbs from the string, and so far after testing the first 11 bulbs, I found ONE that would actually light up in the tester. After each bulb I inserted into the bulb tester that would not light, I kept inserting that one working bulb back into the tester again, because I just couldn’t believe that I had that high of a failure rate with these bulbs after just one year of use. But after 11 bulbs, still only found one that would light.
My question is: with that high of a bulb failure rate, is it worth taking replacement bulbs that I know to be good (bulbs that light up in the tester) and replacing each and every failed bulb on the string? Or should I just cut that whole string off the pre-lit tree and put a brand new string on there?
What would some of you do?

Omgoodness...I wish you lived near me...i could use your expertise. I've watched this video but there's no way that I could even still attempt to fix my issue of my 6 foot tall prelit tree. All the lights went out on it about 6 years ago. I still use the tree however i just buy lights to throw on it. It would be amazing to have it fixed. Perhaps I can show this to my dad and he can try it.

Hello - I am trying to fix a string of "garland" lights. The new bulbs were burning out immediately when I replaced them so I identified all the burned out ones and replaced all those bulbs before plugging the string in again. All the bulbs I replaced do light, but hardly, they are much much dimmer than the existing bulbs on the string. The replacement bulbs I bought are listed as 2.5v 170 amp .42 watt. I have used the new bulbs on other strings and they are fine. Where do I go from here? BTW - Thank you so much for your videos, they are super helpful & I have saved countless lights from ending up at the dump!
Thank you for your videos! I was wondering if you know how to troubleshoot an electric cherry blossom tree that is sold for use in both summer and winter? The adapter has a positive and negative and that fits together and then screws on to electrical cord.

. Each individual LED light is wrapped in brown tape as is the tree. I put it together in the house and it worked when I went to move it outside it all of a sudden didn't work there's no removable bulbs. The plugin is an adapter that actually has a positive negative side that plug into the actual cord and then you screw it on there's no Cuts or tears on the cord I've tried to plug it in different)
Same concept as thexmas twigs that they sell now?
I have read Titans each and every individual plug that is similar to what screws into the adapter except just for the lights to connect. I've checked the cord for any cuts?

Hi, I have had my tree up for about two weeks, a lights working. And, the other night I noticed apart of a section not working. So today I set out to replace the burnt out bulbs. A little way through testing and replacing them I’d say about 10 or more, when I put one back in it flashed and burned out the ones I had just replaced. And, I was using the same strand I have been using to replace bulbs on my tree. At lost to what is wrong! Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks for the info! I bought a prelit tree, on clearance, today, and not only did it not come with instructions, but also the top half doesn’t light up. I’m going to ‘investigate’ more in a little bit to see if I can find the problem. The lights are LED and I didn’t see a way to replace a bulb.

The moment a pre-lit Christmas tree starts this mess, if it is a well made tree, I strip these lights completely out of it. Now I have a regular artificial tree and I put lights on it the old fashioned way, strand at a time. If there's a bad strand, I have it in my hand so I can either fix it then or replace it, it's not camouflaged against all the branches deep in the tree messing with my vision

I have a prelit tree with 600 total lights and they connect through pole. I had a section that was out and replaced it with 2.5v replacement bulbs. They were brighter and burnt out before season ended, should I try a different wattage bulb? Any suggestions?
Hi. I have a prelit wreath with a battery pack. It looks like a two-strand wire came unplugged. I’ve tried to follow the wires to see where it would plug back in, but no luck. There are two individual strands of lights on the wreath. When I first put the batteries in one strand completely lit up, but as I was working most of the bulbs went out. What should I do? I am trying to fix the lights on a pre-lit tree. There are a few lights that appear different from the others. Most lights have the green base and can be easily removed from the strand. However, there are also a few lights that appear to be sealed into the strand and they look like they have a white base. I cannot remove them from the strand but they look like they may be burned out. Any idea why they are different and how you go about removing and replacing the bulb? Thanks for any suggestions.
This was a great video! I bought that little gadget and was able to fix all tree except 12 branches. It is a big 9 foot tree !! Do you have any recommendations on how to fix the other branches that have like 10 bulbs each. The little gadget does not work nor changing the bulbs. Thx in advance!!
I have a pre lit tree consisting of 3 parts, each section has some lights not working but mainly the middle/ any ideas why some lights work and some do not? I would think since they are in series the whole section would be out ?
I have a new tree from Hammlecher. It's a 4.5 ft tree. The lights turn themselves off on schedule like 3 times a day. They told me it's a wiring issue. Do you have to get a different tool for LED strands? I've seen both this tool and a similar one that says it's for LED lights.
I have a three piece pre-lit tree. The bottom part lights up. The top part lights up. However the middle part has an issue. The top part of the middle sections lights up fine. The lower section of the middle part does not light.
I pulled the shunt trigger and still can’t get the top of my tree to light up. Do you think it might be Luke this due to bad bulbs? I replaced a couple and still nothing. It’s just the very top that doesn’t beep. Like maybe 6 or 7 lights.
What is a shunt? What is it doing to "fix" it? Does a shunt not work but all the bulbs work?

@@daltonx6177a shunt is a small wire at the bottom a bulb that supposedly acts a electric bridge when the filament burns out but this wire doesn’t always activated properly so that light keeper pro activated it with electric pulses

@@chrispoff72 the electrical pulse from the lightkeeper's shunt repair trigger basically melds the broken shunt back together to reconnect the broken circuit & thus "activate" the lights.
You'll only know if a shunt isn't working if a bulb burns out and the shunt isn't functioning as a backup for it. So you won't know if a shunt isn't working until the bulb with that shunt burns out. That bulb won't light, but neither will the rest of the strand. If the light burns out, but the shunt is working, that bulb won't light but the rest of the strand will stay illuminated.
Hi I need some help. I have a pre-lit tree and all 3 sections have sections that do not light up. I used the tool and shunt all the areas it did not work. I did a the audio check and it has current. I don’t know what the cause is. Please advise. Thank you.

I was looking through all of your videos and do not see how to fix a loose wire in the socket? I found the socket which was the problem and changed the bulb with several known goods. The light did not come on and I do not see anything wrong down in the socket. I think it may be a loose/pulled wire. Is my only option to restring that particular string of lights? Or is there a way to salvage this? Thank you in advance!
Is there a way to find an empty socket on perlite tree. I have replace almost all bulbs because of being burned out and it isn’t the shunt , but entire middle section will not light! Thanks
I have the same problem do I have to take off the section of the tree to fix it?? because I have the light fixer pro. And it’s not working on that part of the tree. Bulbs keep burning out. I got it to light up for about an hour then they all burnt out again. Any suggestions??
We have a prelit tree where half of the top isn't working. When we use the voltage detector, almost ever other bulb doesnt have power. We have gone through and checked all the bulbs. When we use the shunt detector it doesnt light up. It also changes the bulbs that dont have power to the opposite ones. Do you have any troubleshooting ideas?

Thank you for this video. Using the tool, the lights do come back on with the Quick Fix shunt fixer. But then the lights go back out after a minute or so. Then I pull the trigger to fix the bulb shunt again, it works for about a minute, then goes out again. Any idea what the problem is?
Do the bulbs that come back on for a minute look brighter than other bulbs on the tree? If so it means there are too many bulbs burned out and the remaining lit bulbs are getting too much voltage, burning the others out very quickly.
Another possibility is a loose bulb wire inside one of the sockets that is intermittently completing the circuit. The voltage detector part of the tool can be used to identify that problem.
No idea if you still check/respond to the comments. I have a top section of a tree like this that's giving me a fit.
The Shunt fixer did light things up, but when I replaced the bulb it didn't come back on. Using the shunt fixer again has not yet re-illuminated the strand.
I've used the bulb tester on every bulb to validate they work.
The voltage tester is confusing me. It seems to beep most of the time I put it near wires/bulbs, except for a bulb or two right near the bottom. Also, it doesn't beep on the wire between the plug and the first bulb.
Finally, there is some sort of third wire visible at the very bottom of the strand, but only two wires are visible/together at a time up the strand. There are two bulbs at the bottom that have a little area the third wire goes into and ends. One of those bulbs doesn't seem to set off the voltage tester.
Any help (or direction to other videos) would be appreciated!
Hey Victor, I got a question for you. For pre-lit trees that have a stackable set up, is it okay to power each stack individually and try to find out the break in the circuit or is it better to connect the whole tree and comb through the entire thing with the light keeper? Will it change the voltage per bulb if I try to fix the stacks individually?
I think it is fine to do each section individually- or they wouldn't have individual plugs for each section. When it's all plugged in together normally, it's running 3 individual parallel circuits. Otherwise the whole thing would be wired together and you couldn't disassemble it easily. Troubleshooting it in these smaller sections also makes it easier to detect where the problem areas are. Trying to tackle the whole tree is daunting and makes it easier to get lost on your progress.
Fun fact; you can make electric igniters for fireworks shows with strings of Xmas lights.
