In the video, you will see a nail at the bottom of the tree that my lights are attached to. That nail has been in the tree for years so I decided to use it. I DO NOT recommend putting nails in a tree to attach your lights. All you need to do is tie the plug around the strand when you come back around for the first wrap. You can use a zip tie if that is easier for you.
Coming from someone who wraps trees for 3 months out of the year, I'd say the only major thing that might make it easier to do this process is wrapping from the tips of the branches towards the tree. It eliminates some guess work and will save you from having to use excess lights and wrap them back into themselves. Also dark or brown colored cordage to tie between the light spacing so it doesn't sag on trees with smoother bark like a beech or Japanese maple for example. All in all good work on the video!
If you start from the tip of the branch to the trunk, how do you cover the other branches? Is it a different string of lights or do you take the bulbs off?
I. Have. Got. To. Get. Some. Of. That. Wire. For years I've struggled with trying to run lights in trees and trying to figure out how to run the next set of lights so it doesn't look stupid. Thank you for showing us this. 🌲🌲🎄
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I couldn't do this, but appreciate your effort and other homeowners who go to the trouble and expense to share the joy and beauty of the season with others.
Just the video I needed. Did not realize tree wrapping would be so technical, and now I see why I don't do it. Was on the fence, but now strongly discouraged to try this. Eave lights alone it shall be!
😮😮My friend does landscaping and lawn mowing. But he said he makes a good money in winter by setting up and taking down Halloween and Christmas decorations.
This video is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you SO much!! And for your links in the description. Very helpful! I can’t afford to go all out with my tree like this (even though it is exactly what I want), but maybe I will do a few strands a year until I get there. Or die first of old age. 😂😅 Your trees look phenomenal! ❤👏🏽
I absolutely love the look of those trees you've done up in lights! The house is so minimal, bc the trees are & imo, always should be the star of the show! **(unless you don't have trees, then shrubbery etc. Would be my 2nd, then the house or permanent human buildings or garages etc.) I will say I also love a nice light up, elevated ddck off a house, that's looks so nice too! I actually did mi e this year bc I could finally afford the lights and electric fir it lol. Your trees have so much character with all the twists & bends, it looks so beautiful and majestic at night! How wonderful to see people, young people especially. Taking thr time to pur up such beautiful Xmas lights. It holds such a pleasant sentimental place for me! Love to see them! Thank you, it was very informative and helpful! 👍🤗💯
I priced out 5mm mini lights online and they're $26.64/each for 70-count commercial-quality lights. 79 strands times $26.64 (not including shipping of those lights) is $2,104.56. That's quite the expensive decoration for a single tree. That said, it does look amazing! Well done...
That's exactly where my mind went too. I love the design, but the expense is over the top. Also, the labor to put them up and take them down is a bit over the top.
Ya this dudes a little nuts. I thought he was saying “7 to 9” at first haha. When I realized he was saying 79 strands for one tree I decided this shit ain’t for me 😂
The ones he uses are linked in the description and much cheaper than the ones you mentioned. That being said, it’s still way outside of my budget. But I might do a few. 😅
Many apprecatiosn for your share and great video. It's first time for me. I didn't know how to do. It's very helpfule for me. Thank you so much again! Happy Christmas to you!
Been wanting to light the Japanese maple which would look great but not take nearly as many lights. I had kind of figured out how to do it but his video has several tips I would not have thought of. Just wish it was warm enough here to wear shorts and a t-shirt while I do it. lol
Thank you for an INSANELY USEFUL video!!! I decided to put lights on my front yard tree this year, and I found your video, and WOW - Great tips, and EXCELLENT instruction. I am using many of your basic tips and insight! THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to create this video! I'm getting started with the lights on my tree, and thanks to your video, it's looking GREAT so far! THANK YOU! Happy Holidays!!
Impressive! Just beautiful!! I always wondered what details were in this process. Very professional and it makes the children feel happy as well as their adult family members bringing them in to enjoy ;>
I don’t know which video we originally watched to start wrapping ours, but we’ve been wrapping ours in balls for years. It makes it easier to store without tangling all the lights, and easier to on put on trees and or bushes when you get them out every year.
Wow! Great job decorating that three. Looks amazing! Thank you for taking the time to upload this video and for teaching us how do measure. New subscriber.
I've been doing Christmas displays for 35 yrs, graduating year by year. The problem I've had is that the quality of products have become worse. Snow we've decided to cut back and do less. But great advice. Especially on the add a plug and wrapping the male and female to stay attached. I've also use to what I call the Burt !! Bacharach, It's a back wrap for long end wires, so your spacing stays even
Too many strands on the same wire in series is the problem. So what he did is split it into two seperate parts, trunk and one side and then the other two sides from that second plug. He joined them together at base for ease of use and clean look. If he put to many strings in a series it may blow since the string light wires may not be able to handle all the amperage over such a long distance. Hope that clears it up. :)
You are right. As soon as he added the plug at the bottom they are now one single string of lights. but the lamp cord can handle a lot more current than the the lights, so by branching off the lamp cord it's fine. Just like using a thicker extension cord with multiple outlets can connect even more strings. You do have to be careful not to exceed the current rating of the strands or you will blow a fuse, most led light strands have a 3 amp fuse.
I have to say it looks inviting as if it was a Hallmark card picture you did an awesome job man I'm sending all these to my wife and of course it's now on the to-do list thanks LOL
I wrap a Palo Verde trunk with tiny encased diffused yellow leds. Most stay on but 1 in 5 randomly pulse off and back on slowly.About 200 a strand and the trunk is (this year) about 5" in diameter shrinking to about 4" where it splits off the main branches. Each strand wraps around at least 20 times. I tie-tie the beginning at the bottom and spiral up about 4 fingers apart. The branches I then go up one about 8 fingers apart and then come back down in the middle for the branches until I run out of lights. took me two years to figure that out. Using tie-ties to hold in place. I don't mind not having a helper to put them up, but un-wrapping to take down is a pain. I think, I am going to figure out a way to run lengthwise to get the same effect but avoid the wrapping. 14 wraps doesn't even get to the branches, but they sure look great.
Hi Jordan, thanks for posting this video. lots of good information here. just want to make sure i understand this as far as cost. at the last section of this video you show a tree that took 79 strands of 70 count mini lights. so for me to figure how much it cost to do that tree i would take a the cost per strand on your site ($12.50) x 79 and it would run a total of about $987.00 per tree right?
Yes, that is correct. Also you can also buy a 50 pack on the website which will save you some money instead of buying individual strands. For example you can buy the 50 pack then 19 individual strands. Of course it all depends on the tree size and how many strands you will need. If you have any other questions, feel free to email us.
Wow! What an amazing job! I'd hire you in a heartbeat because you're as much about perfection as me! Also, you just gave me the confidence I need to try these vampire plugs. Thank you!
Thanks for the great video! The formula was awesome. What would you charge per tree for an installation like this? Parts and Labor. I saw a nail at the bottom. Does that hurt the tree?
That nail has been there for a few years so I just decided to attach the lights to it. I would not recommend putting a nail in the tree, but that depends on the type of tree. You can just tie the end around the strand when you come back around for the first wrap. When it comes to pricing, everyone is different but it can be over $2500 to pay a professional to do something like this.

How do you price out trees?
If you make your own video, I'll watch the hell out of it
The simplest of holiday lighting is still the most exquisite. Just stunning!

DUDE That's alot of work. But It STUNNING>>!! FANTASTIC..
Those trees have a great shape to them too. Makes them look even better. Awesome job on them!
Just the video I needed. Did not realize tree wrapping would be so technical, and now I see why I don't do it. Was on the fence, but now strongly discouraged to try this. Eave lights alone it shall be!
Can you tell us why you don't encourage trying?

I always wanted to learn how to do that. I’m glad I found your video. Thank you for sharing!
The lighted trees are like gigantic table lamps.
This video should have THOUSANDS more views! Thanks for the formulas and showing the entire process! This looks fantastic!
Truly breathtaking I could stare at those trees forever
Man, this was incredibly informative. Thank you sir.
Very helpful to do my tree and I felt like I was in the Hill Country at Christmas Time.

I bet he does this as a business for folks who can afford it.
Seriously, I’ve always wondered how this was done! Now I know! Too much math for me 😁 Thank you for the share!
Wow! Stunning!
Damn... that tree looks amazing; great job
Bruh .. mvp award.
Wow, that looks awesome! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you so much for this! Keep up the great work
Thank you for the teaching. Great examples! 🌲
your trees look beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for tips
Thanks for the demo and links!
I love this idea, I would never take these lights down, they can be used year-round!!
I agree...they would look nice all year round! 👍🏻
The sun will bake them. They aren't made for prolonged UV exposure. Granted they will have some degree of protection once the leaves come on.
Not to mention the tree grows
@@mandov5916 that's why you use stretchy cords
holy crap I would pay someone just to do the math!! thank you this was awesome
Beautiful👍🏻

Awesome video! Thanks for sharing your expertise

Forget about the house, the trees will do. Thank you for sharing this, I did not know where to start.
Looks so Beautiful!!!!!!

Dude. Thank you!!! Greatest Christmas light video ever
Beautiful. Thank you for your leadership. I can tell you are a master!
Great video! Do you have a video showing how to prep the light strands to make them easier to unroll as you work around the tree?
I don’t know which video we originally watched to start wrapping ours, but we’ve been wrapping ours in balls for years. It makes it easier to store without tangling all the lights, and easier to on put on trees and or bushes when you get them out every year.

Did you drop out of school in the 5th grade?
@@DiffEQ did that comment make you feel any better? Just curious.

So is this for the holidays or allyear?
I love it
Love the outdoor waterproof electrical safety in America 👀

so beautiful wow!
Wonderful video, I'm in! Question... do you leave them up year round once wrapped? If not, any tips for taking the lights off?
WOW what a fabulous video. Nicely done. Does look like some work to get this task done, but very impressive
Wow you are amazing!!!
Incredible 👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Amazing!
So beautiful!! ♥ ♥ ♥
I’ll add the obligatory: Ain’t nobody got time for that!! 😂. But seriously, this looks awesome! Superb work :)
Great job. Thanks for sharing.
This is awesome
Please come to Delaware 😂 and make my trees as beautiful as yours are ❤
Outstanding job 👍👍👍
Great tips, thank you! I think that with all the time and trouble, I'd just leave them year-round.
It looks great, but how do you prevent water ingress? It looks like those connectors aren't waterproof?
You showed us the math, I loved it!
bEAUTIFUL! AND MAGICAL!

Great job, it would be nice if cities spent more money on lighting trees during holidays, or year round IDK
AGREE!
Beautiful job!
That's an awesome tree!
How long did that take you
I've struggled with lights slumping or sagging, so I've had to use staples. Better ideas, or what am I doing wrong?
Really great job. I so enjoy enjoy Christmas decorations.
Thank you.
So beautiful !
Gorgeous! Thanks!
Thank you so much for that! That was very helpful. I've been wanting to know this information for years!!
Looks amazing! Lights have gotten so expensive these days though! I can't imagine using 79 strings on one tree! Although I love it!
