  • On the track, my Mazda RX-8 brakes got very hot and started to fade, so I decided to replace them with stop tech sport slotted brake rotors for better cooling. There are probably the best rotors for the money for this car, and they worked great at my last track day (video coming soon). I talk a bit about brake fade and then show how to replace one of these brake rotors. I hope you enjoy the video!

Thanks for uploading, but, some tips and tricks for other people who want to tackle this job:
    - don't rely on the inboard jack (or any jack), use an axle stand in case something goes wrong
    - always change pads and discs as a set
    - remove the brake caliper from the bracket and push the piston back (some people do this with large pliers, but a specific tool doesn't cost much). Always undo the cap from the brake fluid reservoir when pushing back pistons
    - grease the piston sliders and use locktite when putting them back in (they usually need about 25-28Nm)
    - the large bolts holding down the caliper bracket will need around 45Nm at the back and 70Nm at the front (check those numbers for the rx8 before you proceed)
    - clean the surface from the hub before mounting the rotor. No need to apply grease, altough some shops do it.

"I only use this car for track and weekend drives "
    Every RX-8 owner ever.
This is not a daily people, it is Exactly what you think it is, a race car.
The fuel mileage and maintenance alone should tell you that.
That being said I STILL WANT ONE!

I have the same color RX8.
I’m doing a mock build of this.
The rpf1 look soooooo good on 8’s
Also, which width rp’s did you get. 9? Or 9.5?
Also some info on the coil overs? They look like teins.

is the brake fluid good for both track use and street use ? I'm looking for multi or dual purpose for tracking and street use for my car.

Dont you need to push the caliper piston back a little to make sure that it doesnt stick to the rotor ?

My eyes hur when you change rotors or take them of you clean the hub and rotor. If you are unlucky its like running a warped rotor. So please everyone clean the hub where they mate before reinstalling.

You actually have the slot position incorrect. The slots should look like \ on the wheels, not /. The rotor you put on the passenger side is for the driver side.
Also, you really should replace the brake pads when changing the rotors at the same time.

    • @PeterArmour
      @PeterArmour 4 роки тому +1

you'd think so but actually the slot orientation is correct. You can look at other performance cars that come with slotted rotors, the slot is oriented into the rotation.
