- So it turns out there are problems in Football Manager that I have not been faced with before on Save Your Saves. You can, if you don’t pay attention to registration rules, actually run out of players and then have to just deal with that. For like an entire season, or at least before the next transfer window.
We get into the usual mess of tactics and squad building disasters that hopefully help you do better in your own saves as well, those are always around SYS in new and unique ways, the sort of stuff that always keeps me coming back for more.

To be fair to the Roma save, Pablo Dybala starts with a $12 million release clause and it is difficult to keep him
I slapped him in the face with a new contract the second I could. Ended up selling him the following season for 120 million to Saudi.

Thanks for the help with my Sampdoria save, i actually tweaked some of the things you pointed out before i saw this video (such as regrouping when i'm trying to press) but hadn't clicked on to the trap outside as it was something that seemed very effective for me the previous year. Thanks again for the help.

@macario8836 the end of this season that I sent in we ended up finishing in 8th and qualified for the conference league. AC Milan won the league and Cup so managed to sneak in.

Oh boy, that save in Sweden. I got some flashbacks of my time managing Örgryte IS in FM 22 because Malmö FF managed to do the same thing to themselves, and whenever I faced them, they could only have 1 player on the bench every single time. So while Albert might not be able to field a full bench, at least they didn't screw themselves over to such an extent that they could only have one player on their bench like Malmö FF did in my save.
So the AI screwed themselves? That's quite something
Having so much fun with my Roma save this year, this guy did them dirty. Gotta obey the law and use a 3ATB formation in Italy though. Finished 2nd and won the EL in the first season, now in the second season leading Serie A so far with Scalvini, Baldanzi, Scamacca and Joao Neves on the team. Highly recommended save!
How much did Joao Neves cost you?

Any team of mine will not use 3 defenders 4 or 3 CBS with 2 WBs
seeing people run the standard 4231 on a team with a 3-at-the-back heritage hurts me so much. I've seen people play it with Atalanta, they deserve to lose
the main tactical instruction ive remembered since playing at 7 yr old is something that runs true for all football whether in the real world or FM,it is that its impossible to play a high line when there is no pressure on the opponents midfield,i know its obvious but alot of teams fall foul of giving creative players far to much time to pick out a long or thru pass to a speedy striker when your line is high

The SYS series is my favorite, absolutely brilliant. It’d be nice to see some short updates of how submitted saves fared if they followed your advice or if they didn’t.
hey a swedish save, my main goto for the last years. The 9 player rule isnt tricky at all, just sign for the youth team and move em up after a year or two, takes 3 to get em trained in sweden. Though "real" wonderkids are out of the question for a couple of "decades", the tricky part is the reputation and making real money (getting paid anything that makes a real diffence takes a while) forever building up the club for the future. Had a real fun lower league save a while back with the very local team, i can hear them if i open a window, playing CL but not beeing allowed to build a new arena for zoning restrictions and such. Only took in 1900 something, very challenging
Decades!? Nah, you should have people classed as "wonderkids" within 5 years of reaching Allsvenskan. Just look in the right spots! Find some good Spanish players in their 4th division, some african dudes perhaps, a sweet dude from Peru etc. Europe is everything to a save like that though, so you have to get into a group stage every year if you want to progress. I did a save with Älmhult at the start of FM24. Pretty fun, but it becomes tedious after a while when you're reaching the quarter finals every year but never the final etc.
@@AdamPersson yeah i know what you mean but i was counting the climb from the 4th tier and building up of the club in to that very loose timefrime and i also thought i used the wording "real wonderkids" so what would count as a wonderkid in a top 5 oh yeah that not having your players in matchform for the european playofs was a wierd bug in both 10 and 18 ( my favs) is it really still an issue in 24?!?

some FM players are just simply OBSESSED with immediately selling the old guys and signing tons and tons of wonderkids. Except in this guy's case he replaced them with wonderkids and also Anthony Martial for some reason. Real ones know you need a good balance of old/young players for success.

@@Humdrum955 I'll totally do army of wonderkids, if i'm not expecting to win, not expecting to have the best dynamics and leadership, if all the old guys are on massive wages or want to leave, if they're just not the quality of the team, like all good reasons to make that kind of squad. Not with the situation Roma has though, and not like that. Those sales were so bad, such low money gotten for them.

Your content has made me a better manager. I adopted one of your FM24 tactics for the 2032/33 season and its carried NAC Breda from Eredivisie relegation fodder to Netherlands Treble champions (in 36/37). We're now perennial title favourites and not looking back. Keep it up Zealand!

thats a very good point, registering players doesn't work the same as england for example. i had a guy come back from a loan and another got injured for the rest of the season. no problem, unregister the injured player and register the guy coming back from his loan. no feelings got hurt. :) don't really know what my plan is for next season when he's fit again but that's a problem for another day!

Regarding the Gonçalo Ramos save, I always feel like Deep Lying Forward gets way more shots at goal than Pressing Forwards.
PF just feels absolutely garbage, I havent seen it work for any player since like FM18.

I'd like to share my success story. I went with Guijuelo in Spanish 4th division and torpedoed my way to 1st div. I made it out of 2nd div thanks to an amazing good run at the end of the season winning basically all matches even though I felt I wasn't ready to go up. I was sure that my first year at the top league would be terrible, but now I'm finishing the season in 3rd thanks to a couple amazing signings. I actually feel that this year the game is too easy, as this wouldn't be possible at all with a total wage of 6M € while Madrid is paying 252M
That last Swedish team was my team on FM11 - you could just play triallists in the league which was an insanely wonderful to constantly have better players than I should at the club.
This SYS felt more educational, especially the first part. I loved it
Gonzalos Ramos as a CF on attack with wingers on IF Attack. The team would become a nightmare to any defense because four very talented players are all looking for opportunities to create and score.
I've been on a longterm save in FM21 in Sweden, and you definitely have to buy players before they are 18 get them the 3 years before they turn 21 for eligibility. I have heard it has gotten much harder to sign under-18 players, so it seems like the country has gotten a lot harder to build in.
You basically have to find good 17 year olds and wait for them to turn 18 so they'll be willing to sign. So you have to keep track of a couple of birthdays every year. Other than that it's fine.
They become HGC at 21 if bought at 18 (or: 18 when joining the club). Don't need to be under 18.
This feels like when you have a question about something during a test in school and the teacher puts you on blast cause she sees how horrendously off you are on that question so she makes an announcement to the class saying don’t do that

For the guy in Sweden, start signing foreign players who are 18 with potential and better than domestic players, if you can get them to join as back ups or youth players then you don't need to play them all the time. In 3 years time they will become homegrown and you can start building a decent group of homegrown players. This is what I'm doing in Gibraltar to meet the 5 homegrown in the playing squad rule, nearly all my homegrown players originated in other countries, lots were released by English premiership clubs at 18.
I've been doing this for France too because of European competition registration. My youth teams haven't produced that many good players (and usually, I send the good ones on loan as soon as they need it) so I've actually struggled once to meet registration requirements, because I was bringing in players on a free from Spain or Portugal who made my team better in the short term (and who I could flip for huge profits a year or two later) and they were taking the spots of my French trained players

That sampdoria guys problem is he's replaced the entire team and half the bench in 2 and a bit seasons plus del monche is an absolute gem not in the team, and also I've forgot his name but the kid you buy from Barcelona when his loan finishes is probably the best player at sampdoria and he's nowhere to be seen. I found out how valuable del monche was in the first season in div 2 when Brighton were offering 38 million for a 1.5 star guy in the reserve team.
would u say the same defensive advice is appropriate for a 5212 (with cdms) as the first one? always been scared of trap inside as when u watch any good team irl they almost always try and trap teams outside, even in a 5 back

my experience in leagues like Sweden you pretty much just have to keep a constant influx of swedish players. like every end of season see who is being released from other teams and proceed to bring them in even if they are just going to be "quota" fillers.
works even better when you bring in younger released players who you can then sell on to other swedish teams not only creating money for yourself but also improving the level of the teams by them getting better developed players.

Gonzalo Ramos can easily be a world beater and topscorer as a pressing forward, but you need to have another guy to support him in the box and players facilitating those guys.. I won everything on FM23 as Rayo by building my offensive line around a PF(a) and a IF(a), with the PF being my main guy..

I always try to make my goalkeeper and the back up a homegrown player. Especially if there are limits on foreign player registration, I find that having 3.5 star goalkeeper but a 4.5 star striker is a bigger difference maker than the reverse. So why spend the homegrown squad spot on a goalkeeper, even if you have to spend a big more on the homegrown tax it's worth it. Also I always get a wonder kid goalkeeper come through the youth system within a few years.
im playing fm20 and managing fulham in 2029 like 9 years into the game and matches against big team like man utd and others especially untd what ever defence i do i get completly doomed by 4 and 5 goals . any tips for a team avoiding relegation

I think the hints and explanations for narrow/wide and trap inside/outside are just completely wrong inside the game and the assistants often tell you to do the exact opposite of inside/outside you should do. Hopefully your explanation helps other players to make the correct decision

I get the find wonderkids before big teams do thing if you’re competing in europe, but what if you’re in a league like Ireland where even winning the title every year and getting to the knockouts in the Duropa league still doesnt give you a big enough budget to even scout outside of the UK let alone buy someone for over £300k?

I am a diamond user in Serie A and never ever ever instruct my players to trap outside. With it I basically tore apart Liga MX with Atlas and now I got Torino flirting with Champions League as I prepare to step them up to the next level with some wonder kids wrapped up.
would dispute the fact that adamo nagalo and elias jelert are “other players” both of them are absolutely class in my nordsjaelland save. nagalo is my captain in 2030 and has led us to conference league glory and ucl semis and jelert is kobenhavn and denmark’s (who i manage as well) best player and is world class

I thought Sverre Halseth Nypan didn't develop that much in my save with Strasbourg, but he still developed a lot more than in this Nordsjealland save. I wonder what happened there.
Real players, especially young ones, have a potential ability (PA) range in FM. As even FM scouts can't really know how good somebody can become in real life. This is shown as negative number in the database, like -10, -9,5, -9, etc., where -10 is the best. -10 stands for a potential ability range of 170-200 out of 200, etc.
Halseth-Nypan has -9 which is 150-180, where 150 is decent Prem level while 180 is world class.
So, he can be 150PA in one save, while 180PA in another. Usually somewhere in between. So, the ceiling can be very different in different saves. It is locked at the start of a save.
And development is determined by a lot of different other factors as well (playing time, facilities, level of league and club, injuries, etc.) anyway.

If anything, that's because he's nordsjaelland, but Nypan in 90% of my saves is too good from the start to be bought by lower clubs. He'd immediately be a starter for PSV, Lyon and the likes and often rejects any move till he's 18 and then moves to PSG straight away. The guy is the best talent in the game

My scouting budget gets drained quickly all the time, I assign all my scouts and keep getting scouting reports from my chief scout for South American players even thought It’s outside my scouting area, how do I fix this ?
How can i make my semipro team pro. Im with Spartans in the second division on the scotish league and we are still a semipro team and its destroying me. Its our second year and the board still doesnt want to become pro. They say theres not enough money. But our financies are okay. I hope i can stay another year in the league but its really difficult. Any ideas?

For the guy at 5:00. I'm also doing it in Denmark. And i'm vastly in the same place as you are. Our real long term problem isn't caused by things we control (you will eventually be like 7 season in a row champion), but by the other teams in the league.
To compete at higher level means keeping onto the wonderkids Zeeland talks about, which is quite hard if the 3FSuperliga doesn't move up in the hierarchy. I am currently dominating the internal league, and i have just beat Real Madrid... which is funny because half my players want to leave my club to go to Real... because they are a 'better' team.
Being a single player game, you could cheat a bit. Save your game before your rivals Europe matches, and reroll it until they win. That will eventually bring them more money and status.. which will raise the League.
Depends on how 'purist' you are and if re-rolling rival's matches feels like cheating to you or not. Lets face it, 95% of FM players reroll their youth intake at least. And i wouldn't rule out matches either since the engine is complete bullshit and you either lose 5-0 or win 3-0 without even changing tactics. That level of rng is damn stupid.

The easiest way to raise the standard of a lower ranked league is to be the best team in that league for 10+ years and sell/loan to some of your rivals
@@charleslucas911 probably loan strategy. Sell them a player and they will sell it further for like half the money u could milk from Real Madrid.
I gave Kopenhagen a DC that was a surplus on loan with the option to buy it, they didnt.. and i was giving him almost for free. A DC that a foreign club eventually bought for like 7mil.
The managerial AI in FM is still pretty much dumb. Im watching teams decay. The 2nd placed danish team in my save right now is worth less than one wonderkid that i bought 2 years ago.
Furthermore, all teams seem to decay... just eliminated Man City in Ch League Quarter finals (and yes, without rerolling a match 50 times).
Now im playing Inter in the Semi Final.. and media says "similar size" team. Drew the away game (a big fat 0-0) and now im expected to win the home game.
I do have a very strong team though. I have like 5 or 6 wonderkids. I rarely buy established players (and never from Premier League). I just scout South America and make a profit.
@@timmyjoshua276 yes. (Im on FM24) The only things that are set at intake preview are name, position and date of birth.
The CA, PA, Mentality, Attributes are set on intake day.
There are a lot of things you could do to improve your chances. I recommend searching for the youtube channel "evidence based football manager". The guy has a 6 episode long analysis on youth intake. You will learn a lot from it.

I've just seen Liverpool finish 20th in the league with Osimhen up front due to them sacking their manager at the end of the previous season, and simply just didn't replace him, choosing to play the season with No Manager/ assistant or director of football

Do we ever get like "feedback" or like future videos/updates if your recommendations worked etc? Like especially for the goncalo ramos guy, it would be interesting to see if it actually made him score more, or not.
