    People have every right to be concerned about RAM usage and this video doesn't really do anything to alleviate that. You can't just say 75% of RAM usage is perfectly fine, but if in doubt basically "just add more". If you've got a PC using 75% of, say, 32Gb RAM at idle then something is very wrong. This mentality is why software is so bloated nowadays, because "just add more" hardware until it runs well, right?

      Microsoft several years ago when Windows 10 came out altered how their memory allocation strategy operated. They allocate as much memory as they can and then assign it to applications such as edge, chrome, and Malwarebytes. As a result of this paper-allocation strategy, your memory will show as close to fully allocated on a regular basis. This was done to improve performance on the assumption that the apps would be faster, and that Windows has a better overall picture of what is happening than any individual app or process. It is also possible to dynamically reallocate such as when Malaware bytes real-time protection kicks in when you visit a potentially risky site. It will drop allocations to chrome and edge, so it has room for its analysis processes to run optimally. This is the reason third-party memory managers have no effect. They can't override the OS and they don't have to inside understanding of the overall state of the machine at the same level of granularity as windows itself.

    I agree: memory optimizers are useless. I tried a few, several years ago. Completely pointless software.
    I game a lot. My new AMD Ryzen system features 32GB of memory and it is a blessing.
    16 GB is limiting in a few huge, intense open world games. I encountered games that hogged all 16 GB of my memory after 2 hours of playing.
    I then had to reboot the game to be able to play again for another 2 hours.
    When using general applications I never had memory problems. Just with certain games.
    Now, with 32GB I can finally stop worrying about my system's memory. It is quite a relief.

    I'm a PC Gamer with mid range 2021 Gaming PC have a solid PC with 1440p high/ultra settings 100-144 FPS all Games, and I have minimum stuff in the background, even exist some programs when i'm gonnaa Game, and my system has 16gb ram 3600 speed, and my ram usage is always 14-15gb, feels like my ram is Sweaty all the time, and if I didn't tried to lower the ram usage before gaming it could have used near to 16gb. So I actually thinking of getting 32gb as soon as i think it's worth it money wise.

    This is NOT normal, I just installed 48gb of ddr4 ram on my other pc which runs a b550m plus 5700x, the ram does not exceed 3/4gb when I open two or three tabs on edge, it's like 6%, on the other side my newer pc which has i7 13th gen, z790 and 48gb of ddr5 memory keeps on maximizing at 30% when idle, now I need that much ram when working on after effects since I still get the error of "running low on memory" after effects is using 25gb, and I left 6gb for the rest of the apps, now I just don't get where the other 17gb went, don't tell me this is normal, I run my pc on safe mode and whops it's only 2.5/48gb being used, but as soon as I boot my pc on normal mode, it's back to point zero. 30-35% of ram being used when idle.

    I noticed that when I upgraded from 16GB to 32GB my ram usage went from 4GB to about 6.5GB after a fresh boot, same startup apps. I think sometimes Windows likes more ram and the more you have, to a certain point the more it will use/allocate to programs. Thoughts?

    Like many others I would agree that simply saying "Get more ram" is not only untrue but bad advice, as many have already said a system using a lot of ram even when doing nothing could be a sign of a virus or something wrong.
    Of course if you are running many things and you are using ram that is fine but when nothing is being used it should be 20-30% if that. Also many games should not be using 90% ram and 70% cpu when you have a good pc which indicates the game is poorly optimized or there is something wrong and taking your advice of "get more ram" would mean me spending money to increase my 16GB and 16GB is more than enough.

    Sorry if a OS uses a lot of ram, it means it's bloated and has a lot of junk wasting ram that could be used for something more useful. The os must be as lightweight as possible. Windows 10 has so much junk running in the background that we mostly don't need.

    • @WCT
      @WCT  Рік тому

      You need to learn more about why RAM is there, a good OS will use a lot of RAM to makes things fast and efficient

    • @stealthinator00
      @stealthinator00 Рік тому

      @@WCT I'm sorry I know that you said that it's using ram to cache things to make the computer faster but using 4 gigs when idle still means it got a lot of junk running in the background. I still think the operating system must use as little ram as possible.
      When I had Windows XP I was happy that it only used 300MB when idle. but 4 gigs when running idle that is not good.
      maybe the task manager should tell better what the the ram usage more better.
      The operating system should just run in the background and not be a boat anchor taking up too much resources just to run it.
      All that cached data is just taking up space that could have been more useful when you are running out of ram. also caching could be using more CPU cycles as well.
      and yes windows 10 still has a lot of bloat running in the background that we don't normally need. a complicated OS means more stuff would run in the background.
      Also if you have a computer that only has 4-8 GB of ram and windows takes up 50% of your ram. you only have 2-4gm left and that is not alot to go around. and when your playing a computer game or using google chrome you are going to run out of ram.
      It does matter how much ram the operating system uses. It means how well optimized the operating system it is.

My CPU is usually about 2-3% usage and my HD is perhaps at 2% or less used.
    I am in UA-cam a great deal so the vids take up a lot of RAM quickly. Try this if you would. like to see for yourself. I should mention that while in UA-cam I do wander the Net at times and my computer slows down even faster than mentioned with the same usages of hardware. HOW can this happen?
