  • The flooding clean-up continues in parts of southern and northern Minnesota. It's a reminder of how quickly these events can happen and how permanently lives can be changed.
In Talking Points, Esme Murphy investigates the evidence of climate change here at home and across the nation.
She spoke with WCCO's Director of Meteorology Mike Augustyniak, Kate Knuth, the climate director with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Suzi Clark an extension educator, Climate Adaptation & Resilience at the University of Minnesota, and polar explored Will Steger.

Before buying property, it's a good idea to look at a topographical map. Higher is better.

How do you prepare for a moving target? The climate will keep changing as the CO2 level climbs. New records for drought, rainfall, storms, heatwaves, and even cold are set every year. 4°F doesn't feel any warmer than 0°F but a 4°F increase in the global average temperature is an existential threat to civilization as we know it.

Let me guess...if we throw money at it and vote in the democrats we will all be saved, right?

@Greghh1960 No, what I'm saying is that mitigation is a red herring- it isn't a solution. Spending money on levees and floodwalls is wasted if what you end up needing are dams and reservoirs.

CO2 correlation with past temperature increase does not equal causation.... Rather the patterns of the Sun, and its influence on Earth in electro-magnetic relations.... Such as the 11 year Solar Maximum, which we are in now, which influences global climatic pattern changes..... The New Religion wants to suppress the Solar pattern influences, yet the Truth will come to light.

Greg, that is the problem with all political extremists, whether from the left or right. Physics isn’t political. And physics tells us that if we continue to pump 40 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year, the weather will continue to get more extreme. And crop losses and tge number of billion dollars disasters will continue to increase.

There is no global warming. There is no climate change if you listen to politicians and politicians that want these scientists to lie to us. There's no such a thing as a global warming or anything that happens every a 100 years where the Earth warms up and then it cools off. It's normal cycle, normal nature behavior. It's nothing we can do to make it worse or better.

Most of the predictions that claimed by 2100 these events would happen are happening today😮 we are definitely one and a half degrees Celsius above the average

There's a 7-year lag time on co2 if we stopped 100% of the CO2 emissions which is impossible it would take 7 years before it slowed in gaining😢

The IRA does almost nothing to reduce GHG emissions and $389 Billion will do nothing to change a $25 Trillion economy based on 80% Fossil Fuel Consumption. The numbers just don't add up. It is about 0.15% of what would be necessary, A simple linear regression between energy production and GDP has a correlation coefficient of 0.997. You cannot run a $25 Trillion economy based on 80% Fossil Fuel use and expect 0.15% of GDP investment per year into Climate Stability to accomplish anything.

Has the earth ever been hotter than it is now?
Even after those first scorching millennia, however, the planet has often been much warmer than it is now. One of the warmest times was during the geologic period known as the Neoproterozoic, between 600 and 800 million years ago. Conditions were also frequently sweltering between 500 million and 250 million years ago. We are at the end of a ice age the earth has cycles cold/hot its just part of the world we live in the ocean currents are slowing so we could be headed for a new ice age in the next 25/100 years

So climatologists can predict weather patterns and climate change. But they can’t predict weather day to day. We had a warm mostly snowless winter. Prediction from the experts was a drought filled summer… well they missed that forecast. No denying our weather has changed. But rolling these experts out acting like they know what’s happening… it’s not much different than psychics .
