    Guitar "superstores" were a sign of the times, and those times are over. I think that smaller Mom n Pop guitar shops of old will make a comeback, and focus on the guitars that really make your heart race...not a warehouse full of dime a dozen, boring guitars with the exception of a dozen or so "nice" guitars. Large musical instrument stores are one thing, but an entire building devoted to guitars was never going to last. It was fun, though...to a degree.

      I could definitely see more mom & pop shops standing tall but I just hope they aren’t all “vintage” guitar shops that specialize in the six figure price tag for the customer who throws it in the vault. We need reasonable prices again on used gear. Everything is extremely inflated today. I thought it would correct at some point but then again I think that this is sadly the “new normal” that we will have to come to terms with 🥴🎸🎸

    The closure is nationwide now? A true shame. I grew up in Long Island, NY and I remember buying my second guitar ever at the legendary Front Street in Hempstead, NY. Not to mention how much time I spent at both the 48 st in NYC location and the Manny's Music which they owned as well across the street. I basically grew up in Sam Ash stores.

      @@MastersofShred The thing about this that was weird in that Thoroughbred was also a big name, though not as old as Sam Ash. They were based in Tampa and started in ‘78 I think. When the internet was young (as we know) Sam Ash bought out Thoroughbred and renamed the locations. The Thoroughbred store in the Rivergate area had other spots before landing where Sam Ash is now. I bought my first Fender Pro Junior in the first Rivergate area location in 1994. I still have it.

    In the days before the announcement, online was 15% off entire inventory, even on sale items.
    The day the news hit, the 15% off disappeared online and only a very few items were on sale and no blowout pricing. Makes no sense. Sounds like corporate brought in a liquidation firm to sell off inventory. This is how they operate. Agreed, though, 5% and even 10% off is a joke.

    • @MastersofShred
      @MastersofShred  17 днів тому

      Yeah we were informed that if we had just come one day prior we would have gotten that 15% off the guitars but EVERYTHING now is reduced just 5% and will gradually increase over the next few weeks. I will say 5% is super stingy. I mean I think they should have started out at at least 10% but then again it’s a corporate move: Announce nationwide closure, get everyone hyped thinking that they need to take advantage now or miss out, offer them only 5% , watch them accept that offer and buy out of emotion :/

    They've been running a 15% off everything sale online (new and used) the last few days (over now). It was legit (I put random gear in my cart to check) but nothing I wanted was, or is ever in stock on their website. BTW, that Jackson Firebird is pretty old...like mid 90's and made in Japan, though IMO, they weren't very good and pretty cheap when they came out. My buddy had one back then. I think they were called FB2's and also came in a tunamatic version.

    another reason is that everyone looks for deals, steals and discounts and stores just don't make money giving out products. No price control and online sales are everywhere. Real support would be that customers pay what it's marked for and walk out, and then the store would still be in business. Stores don't work on and survive on giving stuff away and not making a profit. You should have bought something! They also have bills to pay for... But wait until the 50% off stuff is on and then maybe you will support a business like that... Open a store and see how it works to earn a living. I have been doing small retail for 30 years

    • @MastersofShred
      @MastersofShred  16 днів тому

      The stigma that everybody wants something for nothing sadly hasn’t changed. The closest thing we can get to “nothing” is a steep discount. Sadly the internet has conditioned todays buyer to be this way. I’m guilty at times of this too, I won’t lie. As a fellow business owner yourself you definitely understand what a crap market we are dealing with on the daily. All of the added expenses just to keep the doors open to take accept business. At the end of the day money is difficult to come by for a large part of Americans in todays economical climate and it isn’t getting easier. Saving a few bucks just makes the most sense for many people. Sadly I don’t think walking into Sam Ash today and buying a guitar at full price will keep their doors open. But I understand your point. 😬👍🎸

  • @user-jk5hr7dm4b
    @user-jk5hr7dm4b 11 днів тому +1

    Odd. I never was able to negotiate with Sam Ash. I actually talked with him and he told me they stayed in business because they didn't cut like GC or Mars Music. He would not budge on price. Guitar Center on the other hand ALWAYS negotiated and with amazing discounts. They were also cheaper right off the bat. This was decades ago. I stopped going to Sam Ash because of this and the fact they never seemed to have much of anything high end that was worthwhile. Waste of time. Sad indeed. Sam Ash also told me when Mars Music was going to close for good. He was correct on that. I've bought a few guitars from them but never any significant price cuts. They throw in a few low cost extras at best. This was in OC CA where they had some of the largest inventories that I've seen. GC managed to stay afloat when everyone said they were going under. Who know's? Maybe they're next? No doubt online stores have hurt the businesses. Online has destroyed a lot of mom and pop shops. That is the thing that is SAD IMO. Order online? What? It used to be you played the guitars BEFORE you bought them. Now they have everyone trained to BUY FIRST, THEN decide? WTF? Bas Ackwards? Shit times we live in. Thanks for posting this. Didn't know they were over. Another sign of the times of complete bs in this fk'd up world of shit. The music died and now the stores follow. Instruments are unaffordable for many now. The boomers are dying off along with the good times. They can't syphon off us anymore. I blame the builders greed. Wanna Tyler, Gibson or Fender CS? $4K-10K+? A real rig costs you $10K+ and you play bars that pay $300? Where are the venues now? Mostly just dive bars now. They seed the crappy cover bands. Nothing original. Sick of hearing the same songs over and over. You see the issue here? Whose plan was this? When you know you'll be super pissed. I was the original guitar player for indy label 96 Decibel Freaks back in 94 at the tail end of it all. I watched all of the real clubs and original acts in Hollywood and OC fade and finally close. Nothing much left anymore.

Just wondering what your professional eyes are seeing that maybe I'm not guitar wise? • @MastersofShred
      @MastersofShred  17 днів тому +1

      Hey Mitch! No worries man, so let me explain 😬👍 When I was growing up in the early 2000’s $500 would usually get you some sort of lower end poor quality import that would leave much to be desired. However these days, imports have come a LONG way. Case in point, you can score a beautiful Charvel with a highly desirable Gotoh Trem and Seymour Duncan Pickups used in the $600-800 range and with that you are getting a guitar that feels AMAZING with top notch components. Do you remember when every guitar under $1k tended to have “Duncan Designed” pickups? 🥴 Yes, they weren’t the best, that’s for sure lol it’s seems that guitar companies overseas quality control has really raised their game. That Jackson Firebird just felt cheap and heavy. Any modern day Jackson, Charvel, Schecter , etc would smoke it in overall build quality. However, don’t get me wrong their are some vintage shred guitars that are still outstanding quality! 😬👍 For instance any high end Kramer from the late 80s is GOLD!!! I have an ‘88 Kramer Nightswan and it still holds up :)

      @mitchtaylor177 17 днів тому

      @@MastersofShred OK gotcha I fully understand. Yeah I get the import quality way up thing. I bought a couple of years ago the Kramer SM-1 in Candy Blue (see it in real life the web pics don't do it justice) after hearing everyone and their skate rat brother talk about the Gibson debut of Kramer again and especially that guitar being unbeatable for the price. I agree, I got mine home and played it and instantly fell in love with it. The fact that it is LESS money now that an original is insane(1987 dollars to 2022 dollars). I would love to have a vintage 87 of course but the build quality, feel and sound of that new SM-1 is outstanding. Plus thanks for a speedy reply. Top notch dude. Shred you later! 💪🤘🍺

Needs to implode before it goes back to old ways again. Each community should provide for themselves locally. Get folks out again. Bring specialty shops back old time main streets again. Sick of Amazon. Box stores. Dollar stores. Fast food. All trash. Nothing built quality. Look at Gibson. Not like they used to be. Same with fender. Not the same. Old is the best. Sick of all the sponsor ships with musicians also. All I see is signature guitars. Who is pushing what. Look at me and what I play. Blah blah blah. Never was like this.
