Hi Emmi and Paul. I’m just watching this before I go to bed in England. I’m a 71 year old granny and I just wanted you to know that you have changed my life in several ways. It seems a bit ridiculous that a couple who I don’t know in US could have affected my life style, but you have! After my family left home I continued food shopping every week as I always had in the past. After watching you for over a year I now shop when I have to. I always have a good stock in the cupboards and freezer and I now make so many different meals from what I have. Our food is not as expensive as yours, although prices have risen, but I have saved so much money this way. Thank you so much! You have reached the other side of the pond! Sending very best wishes to you both x
Hey Jennifer! I am from England originally and just became a granny last week! I love watching Paul and Emmie too - it is a highlight of my week 😊
@@mellibee100 Congratulations on being a granny. It is simply the best thing in the world! Enjoy every moment. X
Jennifer, thank you so much for your wonderful comment! We feel the same about you all! Sending the very best right back to you!
You are not old!
So beautiful to read !
OMG. I am 37, was born in Belarus, now I live in Poland. Far away from NY) But I watch your videos as soon as I get notification. It feels like you are my family. So comfort, so warm, so wise..You help me not to give up and belive in good. Thank you and all the best to your sweet family!
Oh how we love to hear that! Thank you so much! The best to you and your family as well!
I agree! What a nice comment. I also agree that Emmy & Paul seem like family! 😊
I agree...Emmy and Paul seem like family. We are all in this together!
Zero food waste is truly an art! You may not realize it, but the best lesson you share each week is your inspiring positivity in approaching all your projects. I think this glass-half-full attitude -- finding joy and abundance in what we have already, including the simple beauty of nature -- is probably the best life hack there is.
YAY! Love to hear that! Thank you so much!
I love this comment! I agree! Glass half full! ❤
At the end of the week, I take all the raw vegetables that we haven't eaten, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, carrots, onions, peppers, etc. and I make a stir fry with them! Uses up all the veggies and feeds us a good meal!
Great idea before they turn bad! Thank you. 🌷
I received 4 large zucchinis well I went to town first zucchini and eggs with grated parm.and then the usual bread and then I found a recipe for fritters emmy I could not make them fast enough 1egg 1 cup flour salt pepper basil 2 cups zucchini and half cup frozen corn it's what I had delish meal and using what I had and what was given from a friend. 😊
So smart Vicki!
Wow excellent idea! I must try this! Thank you!
Oh I love that idea! Thank you for sharing!
Emmy-at the risk of sounding weird, I just want you to know something so special.
My grandma passed away several years ago, but every time I see your hands up close in a cooking video, they remind me of her!
She had a couple little “sun spots” like you do, and I don’t know, they just look like her hands!!!
And now today you have on the only color of nail polish she ever wore.
I hope you don’t take that the wrong way, it’s a very sweet memory.
I have thought it many times, but I just had to comment today with the nail polish ta-boot!
No offense at all! Wonderful endearing compliment!
We had a huge catastrophic event that happened at our house this week. Our upstairs bathroom was flooded with water. Nothing to do with the storm. Had to do with piping under our toilet. It wasn't clogged. At 3 am in the morning on Monday it sounded like someone was breaking into our home. We went down stairs and in our study room the ceiling fell down and water was gushing from the ceiling. My husband cleaned it up, but the damage was so large we had to call in the professionals bc the water even went into our basement. God's hand was upon us because if we were sitting in the study which we often do we would have gotten hurt. Sometimes the mess is to large to handle on your own. This is why we pay for insurance.
Oh no!! I am so sorry to hear that! So thankful no one was hurt!
Yes, of course! We hire when the project is beyond us as well!
The biggest life hack I think is not to be shy asking people for advice or recommendations. Today a random stranger gave me wonderful tips on school study and colleges and when I see a person with a bargain or a new product at a shop, I often ask where they got it from in the shop or if the product is worth recommending, politely and non intrusive of course. That way I have saved tons and often get product advise or superb recipes plus I don't spend ages looking for where things are in the shop. I would also not be shy to ask for some tips or just admire a good piece of house construction, or a fence or garden and people are generally so happy that you appreciate all the work they put in they generally give you superb tips, sometimes they might even offer you a plant or construction drawings to take away.
Yes! What a great tip! Love that!
A small container in frig, on counter, and in freezer for "dibs and dabs".
Smart!
I make 12 cups of coffee in our coffee maker every morning. The first thing I do, is fill my tall cup with 2/3 to 3/4 of coffee. I set it aside to cool until I'm ready to do the breakfast dishes. To that coffee, I add a little half & half, 2 teaspoons of Stevia, and some vanilla, and carmel coffee syrup to taste, and fill the rest of the cup with milk. I pop it in the refrigerator until the afternoon. What would be a 6$ item at the coffee shop, is my everyday
treat made at home. As a side note,
I can get twice as much syrup at my Sams Club, for the same price as the small bottles at the grocery store. These large bottles last me for a long, long time.
I do this also, but I make my coffee in the evening as it’s cheaper . Every little bit counts 😊
Brilliant!
I am so thankful that you both are okay and that you kept those old sheets. I just love the way you two can just whip up a meal and your ability to think clearly in crisis situations. You two have inspired me to cook at home and make meals from what we have on hand. I used to stock my freezer and pantry, then go to the store for ingredients for a meal instead of defrosting the meat in the freezer. Your channel has been such an inspiration to me because you are not about deprivation. You show people how to have a full and beautiful life on a budget. As we used to say in the 80's, keep on truckin.
So true! No deprivation here...every day is a blessing!
Emmy, the music you are playing while making the pancakes makes me think you are a 1950s TV show. ♥️😀 the perfect music for you and Paul! Love, love, love!
😊 thank you Christy!!
Some folks may not agree with what I did the other day. Somehow a tube of Grands buttery biscuits were hidden in the back of the fridge. The use by date was December 23, 2022. I took a chance and baked them anyway. They were really good, with no off taste, smell, or appearance. Wow, those tacos looked delicious. And I love your Mickey Mouse ice tray. What fun! I dearly loved today's video. Diane in NC
I no have found so many expiration dates aren’t that important! I have used canned biscuits 3-4 months past with the same experience!!!
Aside from dairy (which can still go a few days, or even weeks with yogurt) and obviously meat, so much is ok!
Edit- lessons learned though on what to not buy as much of.
I congratulate you! I do use some expired foods for some things!
@@creativelycountry1617 if the canned refrigerated biscuits burst the cardboard tube, they went bad, otherwise they are still good.
I have a small veggie garden which I love. My neighbor was overcrowded with lettuce plants and shared. I have salad from my garden every night. My deck is holding several potted tomato plants thanks to your encouragement. My friend loves to garden but does not store or freeze any of it. I am so grateful she calls me all the time to help myself and load my freezer. Tomorrow night I pick raspberries! A little work and a lot of reward.
Oh how wonderful!
Hi! After 64 years on this earth, I have finally started to master the skill of putting together items I have without relying on a recipe. Never had the cooking confidence to try before. People like you have helped me to be willing to be more flexible and creative. Thank you!
YAY! That's wonderful Barbara!
Wow, Paul & Emmy; I saw 239 watching the live! That's great. You two are "rock stars!" 😅
LOL! Not even close! We so appreciate each and everyone of you!!
My husband had porches built on the front and back of our house, one is screened in the other open. We have had furniture stored in our shed for about 15 years waiting to use on our porches when the time came to get the additions built on to our house. I must emphasize that after 15 years or more of age it’s all in need of refinishing. I’m watching videos to learn how to do it myself instead of buying all new patio furniture. I’m a nervous and a little intimidated, but willing to give it a try in order to save money. Love you both and thank you for the encouragement from your videos. God’s blessings. 🤗
You can do it! If my husband and I can change the radiator in my car from watching videos, you can conquer this! And you will appreciate it so much more.
How creative you are! That's wonderful!
Oh my goodness, you both are such an inspiration. I’m 71 yrs old and would just love to have the enthusiasm you have about saving and preparing delicious food. I’m very lacking in this. Bless you both for sharing.
Thank you so much Joann!! Bless you too!
My daily frugal habit is: keep everything clean and organized! Your possessions simply last longer this way, if you treat them nicely (e.g. if you have spilled something clean it immediatly. This way it won't stain.). And you always know, what you have and where you can find it if needed. This way you do not have to buy a new one and than have more of some things than you need.
So true! Thanks for watching and sharing!
My frugal life hack is reusing aluminum foil. If I use a piece to make garlic bread, heat up pizza, or warm rolls, I just wipe it off, fold it in thirds, and put it right next to my cutting board. It really saves on me needing to buy foil. I also have switched from using disposable baggies to using glass containers with plastic lids for our leftovers. That stack nicely in the refrigerator and they all go on one shelf for future lunches. We’re saving food as well as plastic. In addition to loss leaders, we’ve found the places in our store where markdowns are put. Yesterday I got several 1 pound boxes of Challenger butter marked down to $1.25 a pound. Their Best Buy date is next week, but it was going right in my freezer anyway. Also got a box of 4 large croissants marked down to $1.28 because the code date was today. Tomorrow's breakfast is going to be egg, cheese, and ham on croissants. I’ve learned so much from you and Paul and always look forward to your videos!
So happy our videos are helpful Linda! Thanks for the encouragement!
You can also save large pickle containers and you gotta really air out the lids. You can put like things in those two like if you want to cut your strawberries, put in there or just put whole strawberries, and their blueberries in their grapes in their keeps them good longer.
The other day I was looking through my tiny freezer and I saw several small containers of Kate Kaden's Chicken Ranch Chili (which I frugalized).I made a pan of rice (which you graciously taught me how to make) and added all the Chili. Now I have wonderful summer meals.
Perfection!!
I have added a little water to salad dressing bottles to get the last bit out. I also do this with Shampoo, Conditioner, dish soap. If you put a cup of water in your laundry soap at the end, you will get a few more loads washed.
It sure would make my day to be able to meet both of you in person. Love you Emmy and Paul…you inspire me to live a more frugal life .. I am so grateful and blessed knowing you through all your videos. ❤❤
Oh thank you Bonnie! That means a lot!
Glad y'all are safe!!!I am still praying for all those effected by the crazy weather this summer and I know you are too.
Life hack: if food in the fridge is on it's last leg, I use it before I lose it. For example I mixed blueberries and blackberries and I made jam. I made refrigerator pickles from some extra cucumbers a neighbor gave me. My daughter gave me a bag of apples she got for 25¢ so I canned 2 pints of applesauce 😄
See you next week😊
Exactly the way to do it...use it before you loose it!
I tried saving money by dying my own hair once and it cost me so much money to get to a hairdresser to fix it! You are so brave to do your own!
It works for me...
Hi Sweet Couple 👋👋❤️❤️
Good evening Dear Pat!
Hello Emmy and Paul, for me a life hack is what can I repurpose X for instead of throwing it out. I have an old stationary tub (or some call it a sanitary tub or slop sink), it’s the tub on legs that our clothes washer drains into in our utility room. We needed to replace it so I took the old one and use it as a planter on our patio. My husband rigged it up with wheels so it’s easy to move around and store in the winter. Right now it has zinnias and Shasta daisies in it. I’ll move the daisies into the garden - that’s another thing I do. I divide my perennials in the spring, pot them up for my patio in the summer and in the fall plant them elsewhere in the garden. No buying annuals and it’s good for the perennials when they need divided.
So smart to divide the perennials! Love the patio planter idea too! Thanks Donna!
This week I finally checked out a fruit & veg market close to work that a friend has been telling me about. I wanted to check out the mark down section and found a huge eggplant and zucchini (3lbs) packaged together for $1.50, a pint of blueberries for $1, limes 4/$1 (which made me save that recipe!) and some tomatoes. I had two bags of stuff for $4.15! I make my own dog food and they loved the eggplant! I'll definitely be a regular there now. :)
Oh how wonderful! Great prices!
Hi Emmy and Paul! my hack is, when I cook any type of meat with the bones in it. I save the leftover broth as well as the bones and freeze them. I then boil it all together when i have collected enough bones and make stock out of them.
Love that!
Hi Emmy (have I spelt your name correctly?) and Paul. So glad you found a solution to the water issue. Clever you, Paul! Mother Nature can be very unpredictable can't she. Your garden looks lush and colourful...what a joy!
I live in the state if Victoria, in Australia, and we are in the middle of our winter.....cold and wet. I really enjoy watching you, learning new skills, and trying new things.
I am 69 years young and living on my daughters property in a small unit. I love being near my family. My grandson and his wife and two children also live on the property, so we have four generations living here now. I potter about, look after the chickens, and will eventually help look after the garden once we get our green house up and running. I feel so blessed to be a part of our little family community here.
Take care, and stay safe.
Sharon 😊
Yes, Emmy is correct. Oh how wonderful to live with your family! You be well too! Thank you!
We use up all our leftovers. We love leftovers. Cook once and eat 2 or 3 times. Saves on gas/electric
Smart Beth!
That is some great prices on fruit and vegetables!
Yes they are!
We have a mantra that "Nothing goes to waste at Rose Haven Farm. That pretty much says it all!
When I want something "desserty", I take a piece of toast/biscuits, some kwark, and some jam - voila, a "cheesecake"
LOL! I had no idea what "kwark" was so I Googled it! It's like whipped cream!
Please don't be so hard on yourself. New kitchen towels such a nice treat.
Street taco are so good
Great video.
Thanks so much Mary!
My aunt who lived on a farm and grew corn, taught me to shuck corn as soon as possible. Stere in an air tight container like a zip lock bag. It will keep for at least a week in the fridge. The husks dry out the corn. I know this is counter intuitive but take it from a 72 year old country gal. I have been using this method for about 30 yrs.
You are so creative ! You amaze me! That is so funny how you were so surprised Paul knew about street tacos 😂 y’all are such a cute couple ! Your tacos look great and I really appreciate all the practical tips you give ! Thank you for actually showing us specific examples of how to use leftovers ! I can’t wait to see what you’ll create next ! Love you both ! God bless y’all ❤🌺🌸
God Bless you as well! Thank you!
I had power when the flooding was going on, so I used the spinner of my washer to wring my emergency flooding towels. I was so grateful we didn't lose power. After it's over, I bring the towels upstairs in a big plastic garbage bag load by load to wash them and ready them for next time. I wish I had one of those big wet vacs, but I am in a townhouse, so no basement or garage. Although, that probably would have flooded as well if I had one! I feel very blessed with my manageable flooding compared to the people in Orange and Rockland whose whole houses were filled with water.
Oh yes, so agree! We are so thankful too!
The biggest way I save money is focusing on zero food waste! We save veggie scraps in a bag in the freezer for stock I make weekly. I try to make as much from scratch as possible, like breads and pasta. I love using the wonderful Flashfood and Too Good To Go apps in a pinch! We focus on loss leaders and make meals around that plus what we already have on hand to use up. We'll buy bulk meat on sale, portion into smaller sizes and uses (like 1 chicken breast for my husband and I cut in half) and freeze for later, and use as much of the meat as we can (like making stew, lard and broth!) My new thing is saving egg shells in a jar on the counter to grind for future use in the garden. Thank you so much for a fantastic video, there is always so much to learn and keep growing! As a side note, I used the fresh pasta recipe from the 100 Pantry Staples from Taste of Home from the webpage you recommended and it was so good and so easy!! Thank you!
I save egg shells & put them in the blender. I heard putting 2 tabletops of egg shell keep the tomatoes from getting black rot on the bottom of the tomato so far so good this year. Last year I had a problem with this.
YAY! So happy you enjoyed the video! Thank you!
@@daviddeininger2938 Thanks for the information! That's great! I am just starting out with the egg shells, it feels good being able to use them
I save all my eggshells also and hubby puts them around the tomato plants and we didn't have any black spots this year either. We save them the other seasons and they go in the compost pile.
What yummy looking tacos! Another great, helpful video - thank you for always being such an encouragement. Our unexpected trouble at home last night was no water. There was a water main break that left us without running water for 10 hours yesterday. I was so proud of us for not letting it become an excuse to eat out! I found enough leftovers in the fridge to reheat in the microwave to feed us both - then we went up the road to our church to get a bucket of water to flush toilets with until the water came back on. We used a couple of bottles of water to brush our teeth and drink with dinner. There are almost always solutions to our problems if we take the time to look for them!
Lori so happy the water is back on! You handled it wonderfully!
You are now famous and so much nicer than most celebreties!
We are not famous! Nicer yes, lol!
@@FrugalMoneySaver I could have said that you are no longer anonymous and you have a growing influence. People are attracted to genuinely kind folks such as yourselves
I'm in NJ and heard about all the bad rain in the Hudson Valley. We had lots of rain too and some water in our basement. I have hubby with a shop vac and a dehumidifier. My one thing I always do to save money is to turn off the lights when I am done with a room.
Thanks for watching!
Mom was very frugal born 1917 thus great depression woman. I was 12 on my cousins horse farm when i had .y first store bought pancake syrup. She always made her own. Shed put newspaper over windows in winter to insulate n alum foil in summer to keep hot sun out. Dad made an air conditioner from cutting holes in 5 gal bucket and putting ice in bags in bucket and bungee cord fan blowing down into bucket and cold air emerges from holes. It works hed put half melted ice in freezer to freeze n put another bag in bucket rince n repeat.
Wow!
My daily money saving activities are
1. Use the tiniest bit of water possible. When I wash my hands, I use the tiniest thin stream of water to get my hands wet and turn the water off. Then I soap up and wash. I use a little bit more flow in the stream to rinse. I do that with all the water I use. I don't even wash dishes in a dish pan anything. The dishes that have something on them that need soaking, put a bit of water in them till I do the dishes next time. When I wash dishes, I put the tiniest spot of dish soap on a hot,wet dish cloth, as much as I know will work . I wash each dish, open enough water to rinse and then move onto the next dish. I know I could save even more money on water by rinsing all in a bowl of water, but after 1-2 dishes in that water and it has soap in it. I can't stand that soapy taste on dishes. I'm one of the ones who gets in the shower, gets wet and turns the water off. I wash my hair and cut the water back on to rinse it. Then it goes off again. I put conditioner on my hair and soap up the rest of myself. When I'm finished washing, I turn off the water and get out to dry. I know some people can't stand the thought of doing that , but I've gotten used to it and am fine with it. I do the same when washing my face in the mornings. I'm a retired nurse, so I used to bleach almost everything to the max. I didn't want to smell bleach when I wore or used an item the next time, so I used a double rinse. Now I hardly bleach anything at all because I've started using Oxyclean. It doesn't smell bad, so I don't have to do a double rinse. Plus, I live alone. I don't generate loads and loads of laundry.
I save a lot of electricity, too, by making sure I only have on a light on in the room I'm in. I unplug everything I can and even turn off the fuse box a couple hours a day.
When it comes to gas, I've been cooking more so it went up a little bit. Then I learned, maybe from you, to turn the stove off a little before food finishes cooking. Plus, I feel very fortunate that I've only had to turn on the AC 3 times that year. Usually I'd have had it on since mid June. This year, I've been able to open windows and doors for airflow, and use ceiling fans. It's been very comfortable. This is a mountainous region... maybe that helps keep it cool.
For car gasoline, I almost never drive. I'm old enough to get really great free or very low cost transportation. I'm very lucky for that...or... I should say blessed, because it is a great blessing!
I've curbed grocery shopping a lot, but I feel food insecure, so that budget has to go back up a little bit. And, I'm in a no-spend year. That saves a great deal of time and money, as I don't need to spend time pondering whether or not to buy something, because I'm not spending and that obviously saves money.
OK, I think this is enough!! Thanks for bearing through this whole giant response! Be thankful because there are times when I go longer!!! 😁
God reward you very richly for all the good you do for us! I LOVE listening to you!! God bless you! 😊 ❤️
Jonna don't ever say you think your comments are too long! They are filled with good advice! We appreciate the time it takes you to share! Thank you!!
You guys are so sweet,! I see your sweet love and Jesus in you both. Thank you❤
So kind! We are Blessed!
We live in a small town and my husband walks to and from work almost every day as his office is about a mile away. Most mornings our dog and I accompany him. He also walks to the post office and bank on his lunch hour and it just occurred to me we have saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars in gasoline over these many years!
With food I am all about stretching what we have. For instance, I never throw out pickle brine after the first use. Instead, I slice cucumbers or other veggies, throw them in the jar of brine and in a few days I have refrigerator pickles. I’ve also experimented with my chai latte concentrate to reduce the amount I use to a level where the flavor is still robust but I’m using less of it and more milk. Next I have to start making my own concentrate.
Over the years I have saved so much money by sewing for my home. Every room includes homemade curtains or pillows or quilts. Sewing also allows me to create pieces that are exactly to my taste as there are so many beautiful fabric patterns to chose from. In fact, our dining area is starting to look a little worn (grandkids and dogs will do that). Time to hit the fabric store!
What a wonderful way to be so creative...sewing! Love that!
Making childrens/grandbabies "garden clothes" from desugared bed linens - wash well, wear well and who cares if they get muddy or wet, stains don't matter wither - they're just for the garden or messy play xxx
I love that idea! Brilliant!
Awesome dinner! This is exactly what I do to save$$. I go through fridge n cupboards and it's amazing how much food is in there! I haven't food shopped in almost 3 weeks. Yay. Ty and stay well😘
YAY! 3 weeks is so great! Just don't get too low on food...
Yesterday, our basement flooded. The water was coming through the door like a waterfall. With God's grace, we got through and got the water out pretty quickly. All is well but there will be an expense to unclog the drain pipe to the road.
Thanks for a lovely video to take my mind off the worries of the day. 😊
Oh I am so sorry...glad the problem was resolved!
Came back to this video to see Loris. What a special kitty. ❤
Chris, thank you! He is so missed!!
AT the " end " of tooth paste I cut open the bottom and use up the last bit.. easily 4-5 more brushings.
Thanks!
Wash your vegetables & fruits w/ baking soda and water. 1 tsp of baking soda and 2 cups of water, let the produce soak for 10-15 mins, rinse and drain. Removes any dirt, pesticides if you don’t buy organic. Don’t use it on raspberries and blackberries as they are too delicate but for most anything else, it works great. Baking soda is so cheap too. I use baking soda as a laundry refresher too. There are so many uses for baking soda in the home aside from use in recipes. You can get a big box too for little money.
Great tips Gretchen! Thanks!
Some of my life hacks are using fresh dandelion from my yard to add to my salads & sandwiches & to feed to my bunny rabbit. I also use solar lights to light my house in the evening s as much as possible.
Thanks Alyce!
I found the zester Paul got you at a goodwill for .99! I yelped with joy😂! I have been looking for a zester and would never have known what I was seeing if you hadn't shared it! My Frugal tip is weird...I have tinnitus and adhd..I keep my ear bud in and have my favorite frugal, Homesteading, cooking youtubers on play whenever I am doing anything around the yard and house. Hi from hot Texas! I just got my food sealer today that I learned about from y’all. No more freezer burned chicken breasts! Your green space in back looks so beautiful

I don't waste my electricity when using the bathroom and i save on my sewage bill but not flushing when I pee. It's goes like this: If it is yellow let it mellow if I is brown let if drown....
And an added tip I use my food saver so the food that I freeze doesn't get freezer burned. It has saved me alot of Mola...
We love our food saver as well!
Good advice
When there's a sale on chicken leg quarters. We cut them in half. We brine over night. We put 2 different seasonings. Then fill up the grill. BOOM, it's so easy to add a salad or sides.
Wonderful creative idea!
Hi Emmy, I have a couple of hacks that don’t have anything to do with food, but nevertheless, have saved me a lot of money. I wear light
makeup and so at night I remove all mascara. There are makeup remover liquids out there but are pricey and have to be purchased often. My solution is round cotton makeup removers. I wet them with water and add a drop or two of baby oil and it works just as well, if not better, than any makeup remover I’ve ever used. A large bottle of baby oil lasts over 2 years! I had tried using a facecloth but washing and drying the facecloths outweighed the price of buying bulk round cotton pads. I also want to get every last bit of mascara so I heat up a cup of hot water and just place the tube in the cup. Voila, warm liquidy mascara so I use it to the last drop! Love your channel. 😊
Thanks so much for taking the time to share!
Cook a large chuck roast in the crockpot, I use the Mississippi pot roast recipe. On second day I take shredded roast and make French dips, 3rd day take what’s left including all the drippings gravy and make a large pot of vegetable soup with fresh or frozen veggies, the gravy makes it an unbelievable soup, perfect with a grilled cheese.
Sounds great! So delicious!
Another wonderful video guys...
Those pancakes looked delicious!
I loved your taco segment! I always get so excited when I make something different without having to go to the store and use things up! Its the best thing ever. I make Mexican food rather often and we always play music to go along with too. Its fun.
Oh how fun to play music during the meal!

YAY! Hannah! Thanks for being here!!
Hi Paul and Emmy, I just bought a Food Saver on Amazon Warehouse for 39 dollars, I’m so excited to go through everything in the freezer and food saver it. Fridays are my favorite because your video is on. I wait all week for it :)
That is so kind of you to say! Thank you!
Hi Emmy and Paul, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your shows when you cook something, you're so organised and it's like a real cooking lesson.
Thanks so much for the kind words Christine!
Thanks for the update on the flooding in your area. Terrific ways to use old sheets. I too save them for drop cloths. My Hack is twofold, how to show appreciation and bless people without breaking the bank. Little things really are very appreciated by others. I visited my best friend at her beach cabin where we annually spend an entire day together. My garden like yours is thriving from the rain. I cut her a beautiful bouquet of backyard flowers in a simple vase. She gave me a jar of my favorite Rao’s sauce! It really is the little things. We have help cutting our lawn because of my husbands foot issues. Today when they came I made them all ice cream cones before they left. You should of seen their faces.
A funny very frugal day this week is my sister and husband coming to visit for 2 weeks soon. We have been busy getting ready. I bought 4 adorable small glasses which I needed at the Dollar tree. Adorable, two with Bees 🐝 that say Bee Happy and 2 with lemons. I unwrapped to wash, and they were wrapped in newspaper. One was the funny’s page which my husband enjoyed eating his lunch and other side was the crossword puzzle which I did on my porch that afternoon. I said Emmy would love this. We are always quoting you or Paul!
Wonderful!! You sound like us! LOVE how you utilized the newspaper!! Enjoy your family's visit!
So true Emmy there is always a meal in our fridge freezer
I keep refrigerated pie crusts on hand to use for a shepherds pie, the ingredients of which will vary depending on what leftover meats and veggies need to be used up. They’ve always tasted great😊. I also sometimes replace a top crust with mashed potatoes, which saves a pie crust for use another time.
That's a great idea!
Do you cook the pie crust first or do you cook the whole shepherds pie as long as the crust requires?
We cook to have leftovers. When we have eaten the bulk of the meat we freeze the last bits to use up in soups stews or casseroles. We also shop much like you do and got to discount grocery stores. We are not brand loyal and I will alter recipes to use what we have in our pantry.
Any old homemade bread goes to breadcrumbs for meatballs later. Vegetable scraps into vegetable stock, and chicken or beef bones into meat broth, ham bones goes into beans for seasoning.
I do stretch the best by dates unless there is dairy or eggs in the products.
We use a big marker to write the dates on labels and rotate the pantry. Once a month I pull the need to use items out and put in a box in the kitchen, ask my hubby if he has and requests or ideas for the items that need to be used.
In summer we cook using items that do not need to cook ling or crock pots. In winter is when I do most of the loven cooking, like hams, etc.
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing Julie!
I freeze dollops of tomato paste, which I use when cooking meats or stews, and when I don't need the entire can for just my husband and I.
That's a great tip!
Great video!! 😊
Thanks Rebecca!
Love your pets. ❤️
Aren't they gifts!!
Oh my gosh Emmy, I made the exact sourdough discard pancakes last Sunday morning!! We must have found the recipe online! Mine turned out delicious too! I threw some blueberries in since I had them 🙂
Weren't they amazing! So good!
I cleaned the fridge today and found two pieces of rhubarb pie and a slice of birthday cake which is dessert for three days. I am a single who tries to use all the food! I also had a small container of chicken gravy and leftover chicken in the freezer. I put it all in the slow cooker and will have chicken and gravy on toast after finding part of a loaf of homemade bread in the freezer. A small amount of frozen mashed potato can become a potato pancake this week. Before I make a new dish, I go through the fridge and freezer to see what needs using before I create something new. Waste not, want not! Keep up the good work with these food shows. You inspire me.😊
You were so creative with your food this week! Keep it up too!
I so look forward to sharing fridays with you and Paul Emmy! We may live oceans apart but it never feels like that on a friday! x

Isn't it the best!
Excellent video! Love seeing both of you! ❤
Thank you!! 😊
My basement flooded previously due to electricity being out (no sump pump running) and an incorrectly installed stop valve. It hurts my hands to much😮 to wring out towels with clean up... the washer would unbalance when I tried the spin cycle.. so I bought a hand roller for laundry. I use it for nonflooding cleanup even and hand laundered items.
Oh that's so brilliant!
I use that same hair color! 😊
A new life hack for me...I recently watched a video on YT from a stylist, and she helps you figure out your 'style'. What clothes you really like to wear and feel good in. My 3 adjectives that I settled on for my style were feminine, simple/comfortable (not lots of ribbons or bows or bling and not tight), and playful (a cute knot in the front of the shirt or an uneven hem, for example). So now when I clothes shop at the thrift store, I automatically know what styles are NOT my thing, and I don't waste time or money on them. Friday I found a beautiful feminine, light-weight top with an uneven hem and lace all around the hem for $3.50 and it looks like new, too. Win!
Oh how fun! What a great way to shop too!

Thanks Emmy and Paul. Our hacks are generally to value add. Hack eg - make yoghurt, especially using the instant pot. We have had better results with better quality milk, and better quality yoghurt starter. We first heat the milk using the Yoghurt - Pasteurise function, then Saute - Low to get the required temperature, then cool it to mid 40 degrees celsius first - as per the stovetop recipe in a Lebanese cookbook we have. Then we use the Instant Pot Yoghurt - Normal function. Yoghurt can be really expensive here (around $8 or $9/kg), but if we find great milk on clearance, which we can freeze until we are ready, it can be around $1/kg and a really great result. The 6L batch is then frozen in nice portions for later use. Hack eg - We love crusty bread, so we use the bread machine French function with a dark crust. Adding some fat eg olive oil and some sugar source eg grated zucchini, cooked butternut pumpkin, or even a little raw sugar (as the bread machine recipes say to, but I never did before, but I only add half!) makes for a great crust and luxurious bread. We've even used clearance Christmas mixed dried fruit with the peel, then added crushed cinnamon stick, an absolute hit when visiting friends. I always seem to take bread recipes as a gist, and freestyle it.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share!
