Great video. If on a solo ride it’s handy to activate the emergency contact on your garmin. Saved my bacon before when I crashed and cracked a frame, also fecked up my arm and leg and was 80km from home. Wifey to the rescue 😅
Went to buy a bike around 5 years ago but made the mistake of asking 5 different cyclists advice & of course got 5 different answers. Eventually bought a "new old stock" aluminium Giant with rim brakes & 105s for €750 on Done Deal & I absolutely love it. Did my first 100k within 3 weeks. Perfect starter bike. In no rush to upgrade but might do if I join a club. Can keep up with my buddy as it stands and that's all that matters. Dead on about the bib shorts. Genuinely love your videos. Keep it up & thank you
Great video. Well done on the channel. Another tip is early in the year sign up for something. Be it a 50km charity cycle or the Tour De France. It gets you off the couch & working towards a goal. A key thing IMHO. Totally agree with the red lights & stop sign thing. If a car stops, a bike stops.
That’s a top tip, wish I’d thought of that. I actually always try book an event for the following year to get me through winter. Keeps me tipping away.
@@derekfeehan it’s the only way to go. Am doing the ‘Inner Ring of Kerry’ with a few other lads in 3 weeks time to keep the legs turning in October. You have to have an event on the horizon.
Cracking advice Derek, another I'd say is when ye get the hang of the spins why not try hooking up with a few other people for a Group Spin and see how that goes ?. Joining a Club will deffo bring ye on, if its not for you then no worries. ALWAYS have yer phone with ye if ye are going out
Great video Derek nice few tips and tricks in there. Your hydration skills at the end of the video remind me of an old saying ‘water water everywhere and not a drop to drink’ 😂😂😂
Great video as usual 👍. After a couple of co2 failures/disasters I now only carry a pump, may be slow but at least I don't have to call my wife for a rescue 😂. cheers 🍻
Great video but after that big breakfast do a check list before you go out 😂 on dehydration and fuel you always have the laugh at the end of your video 👍👍
Great clip well done Derek. I always carry a valve extract tool if your running tubeless and a few spare valves … especially in winter they can sieze up . A spare hanger . After my rear wheel ate the derailleur a few years back . And a multi tool especially if you’re going for long spins .
Great video Derek. I'm looking at buying a new road bike after going the eMTB route the last few years and stupidily selling my road bike. Out of curiosity, how long have you been cycling?
I’ll say firstly I’m a brand ambassador with specialized Ireland so take from that what you will but I wouldn’t bullshit anyone. The service from Specialized is beyond first class. You nearly get a new bike back. Anything that needs replacing is replaced. You pay good money for your bike, it’s worth looking after it. A mate of mine got his done there as well and I couldn’t believe everything they done. Down to the small details.

Excellent one, never thought of it. Nothing worse than making that rescue call 🫣🤣

I love Kerry, the roads are unbelievable. Sound a savage cycle, best of luck with it pal 🚲🤙
Ride Dingle is open for booking. Good one to keep a fella going over the Winter. Great 120km route
@sleesh1975 I’ll look into it 🤙😀
😂😂😂
Great video, i laughed so much when i saw the empty bike at the end.
I nearly fell off the bike when I realised 🫣🤣 I didn’t know wether to put it in or not but I’ll keep it honest 🤣 I hadn’t a thing with me

Good sound advice 💪 definitely worth joining a club and meeting up with like minded people. A phone is must 💯

Ah stop 🤣 a great lad giving out advice and hadn’t drop on me. I went to get a drink and couldn’t believe I didn’t bring the bottle 🤣

Great video as usual Derek 👍
Sound Dave, thank you 😀

Had a few disasters with the Co2 myself, always when you only have one as well and never a spare. Can’t bate the trusted hand pump.
Great video but after that big breakfast do a check list before you go out 😂 on dehydration and fuel you always have the laugh at the end of your video 👍👍
I’d forget my head if it wasn’t on my shoulders 🤣 it will be a long time before I live this one down 🤣

Tubeless is something I definitely need to look into. Multi tool is a great one. It’s a must have 🤙
Sun follows you around 😊 … thanks for the tips
Course it is, since I got the turbo the sun has bet on my shoulder ever since 🤣 thanks a lot Dave, always appreciated 😀🤙
For the people who are new I just want to reiterate the "Don't compare" tip. Do not look at your friends or work colleagues and put yourself down.
100% pal, we’re all at different stages and levels.
I bonked twice, and it was with you 😂, maybe I should of said on your right today 😂😂 great video and good advice 💯💯💥💥
You got me good today, my sausage sambo nearly came back up 🤣🤣
@@derekfeehan a stop the laughing I did 🤣
Your breakdown kit is Dave. Lol
Now ya said it 🤣🤣
Fantastic Derek,A great video with great humour and great tips
Sound Paul. I dunno sometimes, I do some shite talking 🤣
Great advice, have a good one 👍
Thank you pal, much appreciated 😀🤙
Great advice.
Thanks Mick 😀🤙
Great tips. I love that you follow your own advice😂
I couldn’t believe it 🤣🤣 do as I say, not as I do 🤣

Can’t beat new bike days 🤣 properly cycling about 17years 🤙
Soild auld advice there, any beginner that takes those tips on board won't be off to a bad start.
Thanks a lot Adrian, tried to keep it as simple as possible 😀🤙
I have a question,, i am looking to get my second road bike and want to go carbon... what would you pick for under 2-3k second hand>?
Me personally I’d look for a specialized SL6, I love that bike. One of the best tarmacs out there. I’m sure you could find a good deal these days.
@@derekfeehan okay I will check is there a variant of the sl6 you recommend?
@@kulchatha4657 Specialized tarmac sl8 pro would be a great model
Any recommendations on a place to get your bike serviced? I've been to a few over the last 5 years around dublin all were brutal.

Can’t bate peanut butter and red jam
Absolute rocket fuel, keep ya going all day 🔥🤣

Thanks a lot Tom 😀🤙
Shameful omission of Tip 9, which is actually Rule 1; The Mandatory Mid-Ride Tea/Coffee Stop.
Obligatory.
😁😁😁
I’m all about that. I’ll never say no to coffee stop 🤣👊
