The forest scenes were filmed near where I used to live in northern California, a place called Humboldt Redwoods State Park. I didn’t mind getting delayed on the road one time, hearing it was for another Star Wars movie. Hats off to those conservationists in the 1920’s called the Save The Redwoods League who raised lots of money and bought a large chunk of virgin forest before the loggers had their way with it. The largest trees are over 2000 years old !

Americans and their wood-based building industry are stupid, especially the style in which those houses are built. Half-timbered houses can survive for centuries, but the CHEAP-TIMBERED houses of americans only survive for a few decades. Bricks are even better ... but americans are all about BUYING CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP ... and then disposing it again after a short while.

33:00 If Vader had allowed Luke to kill the Emperor out of hate, he would have turned to the Dark Side. Vader saved him from that path by stopping him. He didn't want that for Luke. Earlier, when Vader said "You don't understand the power of the Dark Side", he wasn't saying "The Dark Side is so great". He was saying "When you come in, there's no getting out".

    • @TSIRKLAND
      @TSIRKLAND Місяць тому +2

Yeah, it's always had very "don't get into the mob, kid" vibes. Like Goodfellas: it may be glamorous to have all the money and power, but it comes with the price of always looking over your shoulder, not being able to trust those closest to you, violence, killing, etc. The Dark Side may have power, but it is dangerous power that makes you lose yourself.

The reason Vader died was cause the lighting fried his life support systems. Since he turned good again he could no longer use the dark side to sustain him.

Yes vader anger/rage was the catalyst in keeping him alive if his suit failed.

    • @iscariot2180

Not really. Dark side couldn't help Vader to survive without suit anyway. Dark side opposite to the Good side is poor in healing techniques. However, the pain of living in the suit made Vader more angry and therefore more powerfull.

15:34, think back to the last movie to when Luke was hanging below Cloud City on that pole. He instinctively reached out to Leia through the Force and she heard him. All living things are connected within the Force, but family members are even stronger connected. They are twins so I would think that their bond would be ever more pronounced.
That scene of them showing Leia sense Luke was a clue. She was the "other" that Yoda was hinting at.

  • @williamfincher2260
    @williamfincher2260 Місяць тому +2

The reason George Lucas had Yoda confirm that Vader was Luke's father was because someone pointed out that many people may think Darth Vader was lying. Yoda was someone that the audience could trust. Even James Earl Jones, Darth Vader's voice actor, thought Vader was lying.

You need to watch the prequels to understand Vader's backstory. That's what they are about. Obi-Wan's backstory too. And how Luke and Leia came to be born and separated at birth.
As far as the Dark Side, the best way to think about it is like a serious drug addiction. It's very hard to free yourself from the clutches of the Dark Side, but it can be done. Vader feared and hated the Emperor but he also could not easily go against him. It took all his will and Luke's faith in him to give him the strength to break free long enough to grab the Emperor and throw him down the reactor shaft to his death. The electricity fried his suit which was necessary to allow him to breathe.
Anyway, great reaction! Virtual hug to both of you!

I watched this movie all the tine when i was younger. Vader finally redeeming himself after everything he did. The ending were everyone celebrates is truly something special.
I dont remember a lot of my first time watching it as i was like 3 or 4 but i DISTINCTLY remember this:
When the Emperor is electrocuting Luke i screamed out "Anakin, wake up. Wake up Anakin" as i was crying. When he grabbed the Emperor i was screamed and clapped in excitement.
    2 sad facts about Vader
    • Because of his suit, he barely if at all slept. So the first time he got a proper sleep was his last.
    • the suit was a LITERAL prison to him due to his injuries(NO SPOILERS)
There's only 1 thing i dislike in this movie.
It's when Vader grabs the Emperor, he says "NO'. It's dumb because he original didn't say anything just looked back and forth before he acts. I prefer that because you can tell what he's thinking without the "NO". Thank god i have a version without that.

    1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue.
    2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it through Luke.
Luke didn't know that until just before then.
    3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they
decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape.
    4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying
to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related.
    5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han.
    6. This was Warrick Davis'/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13.
Willow is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share.
    7. Awesome camera work with the race through the forest. Nobody in their right mind would go that fast.
    8. Carrie Fisher said in her biography that the most satisfying part in her Star Wars experience was choking out Jabba.
    9. Jedi is plural. With Luke and Leia leading the way they can reestablish the Jedi back into the galaxy.
    10. Ford wanted Han to die in the last episode.
    11. IMVHO this is the best of the original 6 George Lucas Star Wars. After the first six he sold it to Disney, and everything changed. Sadly

I think he was.. like, eleven in this film?
They never actually mention the name of the species of those guys, but they're Ewoks, and they never mention the individual name of that first guy, but it's "Wicket." Wicket the Ewok. Those details were revealed in later publications and spin-off movies.

The ghost of Anakin looked the way he was because that was part of a whole set of changes that were made in the movie, creative decisions by the father of this galaxy, George Lucas
In fact, all three originals were fiddled with at least three times in some form to better fit George's original vision
Other changes include the musical sequence in Jabba's palace, the Ewoks eyes blinking and Vader screaming "NOOOO!" as he lifted up the Emperor
Anyway, the Anakin in the original version was the same man that played the unmasked Vader
You'll understand why George made this change as you watch the prequels, especially the third

At sometime after the Return of the Jedi, Anakin appeared and spoke with his daughter. At first she didn’t know who he was, but on finding out she had nothing but anger and hatred for him. And she never called him anything but Vader. That was the first and last time Anakin contacted Leia. And while she did come to terms with having him as her father, I don’t believe that she ever forgave him.

Vader stopped Luke from killing the emperor so that he would not turn to the dark side. Luke could have attempted but as long as he didn't actually strike the killing blow he wouldn't have turned so Vader disguising as wanting to protect his master blocked the saber. But you have to remember. Vader actually wanted the emperor to die so he could rule with somebody but his priorities changed. He wanted his son integrity to stay intact

This video was a joy. Great job.
    "That's no Sun, that's a space station."
It's ok. Remember Obi-Wan called him Chewbacka (short "a"), too. You're in good company.
One of the inside jokes of Star Wars is that Leia was the only woman character Lucas wrote into the scripts for 3 entire movies, pretty much the only woman in the Galaxy with a speaking part! Also, they are what's called paternal twins, non-identical. And she didn't REALLY know she was his sister until he told her, so don't sweat the kisses.
Vader didn't sense Leia because he didn't even know she existed. In fact, remember in Star Wars, Luke was on the death star with him, and he didn't know it, and at the end, all he said was "the force is strong in this one." It was in Empire Strikes Back that the emperor told him of a "son of skywalker" (in Lucas' revised version), and it was only when Vader was reading Luke's feelings he learned of Leia's being his daughter. Remember he didn't know it in Star Wars when she was hurling insults at him. :)
Sorry for such a verbose comment, but I'm enjoying your reactions so much! :D

    41:58 "Wait. That's... his father?"
That's a curious change they made in the '97 re-release. Initially, the actor they had playing Anakin Skywalker was David Prowse.
But the prequel trilogy started in '99 and Episode II came along in 2002. Because it was a _prequel_ trilogy, all the characters who existed in both were a lot _younger._ That meant recasting almost _everybody._
So Anakin was played by Jake Lloyd in Episode I and Hayden Christensen in Episode II. That was Hayden Christensen.
I don't know why they insisted on editing _him_ into this scene. It contributes _nothing._ They initially had David Prowse and the scene worked _great._

The reason Vader took so long is that he knew that if he turned against the emperor he would die because Sith Lord and emperor Palpatine constructed Vader's gear and breathing aid to be vulnerable to his powers.

Great reaction - I particularly like how you catch and include the humorous moments of the film. Most of your questions will be answered in the prequels, Episodes 1 thru 3 (especially the last, but no skipping ahead!).
How Leia got to be Luke's sister after they had kissed was that "the other" of Episode 5 was originally going to be someone else, but Lucas could not fit the introduction of a new important character into Episode 6 along with everything else, so they just folded that aspect into Leia and wrote around it. I always found that to be an awkward solution, since it does throw a monkey wrench into some of the things in 4 and 5. Still, this is a great movie and a great end to the story. Some of the scenes were revamped or introduced in the re-release after 1-3 so there was a tie-in. Most importantly, in the original 1983 version Anakin's force ghost was a middle-aged man who was not scarred. What we have now is Anakin from the prequels before he turned.

Ewoks are cute af, but I'd rather hug Chewbacca (granted he's in a good mood). I also can't help but cheer when Leia chokes out Jabba with that chain.
    Side notes:
    1. The creature that killed that Twi'lek (green woman with tentacles/tails on her head) slave and almost kills Luke inside that pit in Jabba's palace is called a rancor.
    2. The scene at the Sarlacc pit was shot in my home state of Arizona in the middle of the Yuma desert, while the scenes on the forest moon of Endor were shot in the Redwood Forest of California.

the second deathstar though looking the same, was much bigger then the first. the first had a diameter of 80km. the second was 50% more massive. DS1 had also a 24h delay when shooting its planetbuster main weapon. the second could fire it every few minutes. so, the empire improved a lot on the design.

I was 13 when this came out, and on opening day my dad called me in sick to school so we could see it together with no spoilers! Now, people may argue with me, but now you should take a quick break from the 9 part "canon" and watch Rogue One. It is not truly a part of the trilogy/prequels/sequels. But it fills you in on a lot of stuff, and to me it is tied with Empire Strikes Back as the best of the Star Wars movies, with Rogue One having a slight edge. Thanks for your content!

Hell Jyn & Ryl!😊 Luke and Leia are twins. They were born at the same time. Originally at the end, the force ghost of Anakin Skywalker was the actor that was unmasked by Luke. You asked how does Leia know how to drive that speeder bike, I think that is another thing they got from their father. Anakin Skywalker was an exceptional mechanic and pilot from a young age. I wouldn't be surprise that his talent for machinery wasn't passed onto Luke and Leia.

I have a core upsetting memory from this movie. I was positively obsessed with these original films growing up. One Christmas, my parents got me a Thicket (the Ewok who found Leia) book. In it, it talked about all the many, many Ewoks who died in the fighting. It scarred me. There's the Sith (dark side Force users) "rule of 2". There can only be 2 of them at a time- a master and an apprentice. If the Emporer wants Luke as his new apprentice, Darth Vader has to die. I hate that you have to react to the horrible, altered digital editions. I love my theatrical release VHS tapes. None of the added stupid and weird stuff. The theatrical releases are absolutely superior. I hope you watch the prequels too! They're not nearly as good, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

In case you were wondering...although perhaps you weren't!😊
You remember that Woolley mammoth-like creature with curly horns that the sand people (aka Tusken Raiders) had in Episode IV? That's a bantha. So 'bantha fodder' means food that a bantha would eat. Basic food that would be given to cattle or sheep.
In the original version of the film the hologram of Luke's father was Sebastian Shaw, the actor you see when Vader's mask is removed. This being the remastered version, George Lucas in his infinite wisdom, decided to replace him with actor Hayden Christensen, who plays the young Anakin Skywalker in episodes II & III. The remastered versions have a variety of additions and changes. Some are fine but others, like this one, were completely unnecessary in my opinion. Same goes for Vader's "Nooooo!" before he throws the emperor over the balcony. He sounds like someone else. In the original, Vader's conflicted loyalty is conveyed perfectly well by him looking back and to between the emperor and Luke, without the need for dialogue.
