  • One more for the archive. Trying to be a little more creative with my drumming, even if it comes out quite a bit less clean (not that much does for me hahaha). What else is practice for? \m/

Man, I've been playing since 2000... and up until 2020 when the pandemic hit and my band couldn't practice together anymore, I was playing all of the time. I didn't have a natural gift and had to really work my ass off for ever gain I made, so even though I never was as good as I should have been after all of that time, I was still proud of where I was and my writing abilities to make drums that fit the music was pretty damn perfect IMO... but I just tried to pick up the sticks again today for a REAL practice session for the first time in 4 years and damn... I've declined so much that it makes it difficult to even want to start again. My muscle memory even for songs that I've played a thousand times is gone. Stamina is in the shitter... and I'm struggling to play shit that I was playing easily after only 3-4 years of playing. Ugh... if I do decide to get back into it, it's gonna be a long ass road to get back to where I was when I stopped.

Thats about 8 years more experience then I have haha. Awesome man. Covid was an unfortunate time and it hurt a lot of people and wasted a lot of time. Thankfully the fear factory seems to have shut down for covid, hopefully something like that doesn't happen again in our lifetime knock on wood. Its hard breaking back out. A lot of our mentalities have changed. I for one enjoy being in my house and am much less social now. But I mean, we're humans and we've just gotta take it day by day. Just keep jamming my man!

And when you're good and comfortable, you use every damn one of them.

There is no such thing. I have a good amount of cymbals and still find myself in situations where I wish I had more for various accents and situations. Including my hi-hats I have 11 cymbals and still want more. I love playing with the different sounds to try and find the right ones to better fit the note changes in the guitars and whatnot.

Exactly. Just because they are there doesn't mean they need to be used. Just because they aren't being used, doesnt mean they need to be removed. Its a setup. There are different purposes.

I have 27 peices on this kit. (17 cymbals 10 drums 1 being an aux kick pad that matches my triggers). I usually hit everything AT LEAST once through a full song. Some things are in place just for a quick moments use for more comfortability. Sometimes I use those things that way. Other times I'm spamming and riding things wouldn't usually use or prefer to use, and am using them heavily. I stick to more linear patterns, because I lack capability to do many more complex patterns, but thats why these videos are called practice videos and they arent videos of me giving lessons. I don't know what I'm doing and I'm aware of that, haha. I'm just drumming.
I think its funny when people who don't play drums automatically assume when there is a big kit, the drummer is an unbeatable armoured octopus that plays every drum at the same time at 380 bmp, even though they are clearly a human with two arms and two legs. Large drumkits have purposes and arent always necessarily for spamming. I'm glad some people understand! Thank you for watching!!

@@bretdrummer Yeah, your kit is massive but if I had the money I would have a kit that size. I’m rocking a 7 piece Tama Silverstar with 11 cymbals including the hi-hats. But I’d definitely like another couple of crashes, a third splash, a second ride on my left side and an extra pair of hats on the right. But… it’s an incredibly expensive hobby and has only gotten more and more expensive over time. My pedals alone cost over $500. Took me many years just to build the kit I have. But I gotta say, as much as it’s fun to play a large kit, playing shows is a real pain in the ass.
