Great respect for all travelers and hotel staff that endured this event. My spouse and I left the hotel Sunday morning at 9:30 and were fortunate enough to have our flight to Dallas as one of the last flights out before the airport closed. We were amazed at the hotel staff and American Airlines employees who were able to maintain their composure and focus on their guests regardless of the own family and personal concerns. We will be back to the Hyatt Ziva as soon as possible to support this great staff.
Call them to see if they will be up and running then. The place was nice prior to the hurricane. They might have special rates too! I'd go there again given a chance. We were one of the few with electricity and food.
Shey Bolano twitter.com/FreeskiMonkey/status/514812405377806337 - They aren't giving 100% confidence that they'll re-open in time, but they currently *think* they will be reopen right before the trip. The problem with this is if their date slides, I may lose $1000+ in airfare. We were really psyched about Ziva Los Cabos.
We left Hyatt with everyone else on Wednesday noon. We were in line at the airport 1:45pm, and lined up for the Tijuana flight but they kept on merging our line with other lines. at 7pm, we were close to the front of the line so we volunteered to be on any flight that was leaving Cabo. We ended up in a flight to Toluca, and from there got a cab to Mexico City airport. I'm sure most of these images are very familiar to you.
Mirelle Morán Cabo to Toluca airport was 1.5hrs. We got there past 10pm. Then got a cab from Toluca airport to Mexico city airport which was a little over an hour and cost 1000pesos. So from midnight at Mexico city airport, we waited for airline counters to open to get a ticket to anywhere close to home. We flew out 7am and got home that afternoon.
Shey Bolano did you have kids/elderly people traveling with you?? did you pay the flight from mexico city to home out of pocket or the airline cover that for you guys? would you mind if I ask you what state is home for you guys?
Mirelle Morán no kids or elderly with us. Once all the elderly, etc has been in planes and the rest of us waited, we were within arms reach to the gate. When they asked for 2 people to go to Toluca, we volunteered to go. We were willing to fly anywhere for fear of being left at the airport after sundown. We did pay for our own airfare from Mexico City to Vegas. We figured that if we waited to be rebooked, it will limit us to fewer flights and longer standby time. How about you, it took you longer?
