I'm definitely getting Horizons. Beating the Romans with the Macedonians was so much fun. The historical knowledge of the designers is just so thematic. I had no idea a deck builder could be this good. You don't need 1000s of expensive trading cards to have a superb card game.
Your reviews are excellent mate, I'm not one for commenting on UA-cam but thought you should know! Bought a few games after watching your reviews. Love imperium, agree with your assessment. I have found this to be a great solo game to leave on the table half way through and return to later in the day (or next..) to finish. It sustains the enjoyment especially if you have a break between barbarian and empire, assuming that you get to that point with your faction. Love how the theme and the mechanisms compliment each other.
Very thorough review. Looking forward to getting both Classics and Legends when it arrives in my country, and your review helps level my expectations with the negatives as well as whet my appetite with the positives. Can’t wait to play!
I love these reviews, the attention to detail, little things that out in play is incredible! Speaking about components, my copy of classics has cards in two slightly different sizes, but with riffle shuffle it's not great.
Again a great detailed good structured review. I really like that you dont just talk without saying much but that there is a lot to grab from those reviews. I'm quite sure I'm gonna wait for the German version and then get it ASAP. :-)
I understand the comparison to empire of the north but I want to share that I didn't like EotN and sold it but I really enjoy my time with Imperium classics and Legend. I think that your review are the best out there really giving good pros and cons helping me decide about game I want for my collection.
Thank you so much. Interesting that you hated one and love the other, but they are different games overall, it's more the similar aspect of "here's your faction, it's unique, it plays differently" formula.
Thank for you another great review. I'd really like the comparison to Empires of the North, since it's one of my favourite games. I was wondering whether to buy Imperium Classics when the polish edition comes out, but you really sold me this game. I really like historical titles and hearing from you that it's also quite a decent deckbuilder convinced me. Cheers!
Aside from the fiddliness and the components, this is the 'Solo game of the year' for me. I was always looking at this as a solo game ever since I've heard about it. Been playing it nonstop. In fact, I've played this a lot more these days than my favorite game of all time - Spirit Island -. That's saying a lot. Don't think it will dethrone SI but the variety and replayability are off the charts. Interesting reference to Empires of the North. One of my favorite Tableau builders. Thanks for this.
I played this at 3 and it was a lot of fun. I haven't tried solo yet, but I can see with less interactive factions how solo would be better. It is on the longer side for a deck builder, but still an excellent a game.
Good question. I haven’t played this yet, but I do like the way that in eg dominion the card effects do bare a striking similarity to their in game effects.
Good job with this review! I like that game a lot as a 2 player game. I think that The Mico did a great job with the illustrations. I made ( it's on BGG) simples central and player boards you can easely print to help people with the set up! But you're right, the production quality is not very good and the insert is just ridicule. I made one of my own and put both boxes into one. I made a UA-cam video but it's in french. Good review again!
Thanks for the review, Luke. From your thoughts on the game, I don't think this game is for me, although I would happily try it if the opportunity arises.
Thanks for the thoughts! Why does a deck builder need to be shorter? I have no issues with a 2-3 hour game with the depth and replayability this one has.
Deck builders are quite a "rinse repeat" affair - after continuously cycling over and over it can outstay its welcome. I would hate to see a 3 hour deck builder! :P
Great review Luke! One correction... @11:45 - David Turczi Solos are not overcooked (well done) but rather Juicy on the inside and firm on the outside (medium rare) ;)
Another great review! I have really been enjoying playing through the different factions solo and I agree that the extra files such as the solo faction cards are pretty much essential. I am not usually one to sleeve cards but I absolutely did for this one after a couple of plays. Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm liking classics a lot. But one thing I never hear mentioned is the end game scoring. I dread the end game scoring! It's a fiddly, deck cycling ordeal as you strive to keep all cards in their end game state while adding points (Certain cards are worth more/less points depending on where they end up). This is even more of a pain if you have a card that gives you points based on the number of other card types you possess, which can be across all the different piles like history, hand, in play or discard. Again, love the game, just dread the end game scoring.
I would love to pick these up for solo, However it is not available, unless you want to pay 3 times the price on ebay. These both need a second printing asap.
Thanks for covering Imperium, glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for watching, appreciate it! :-)

I agree, and this is certainly still a keeper but MAN if Horizons brings out a better rulebook it badly needs it!
Great review. Very thorough. I feel it captures Imperium really well.
Glad you liked it, looking forward to the other games to play as well.
Excellent review Luke. The way you broke the pros and cons down was very useful when deciding if this is a game for me
Glad I could help! What was the decision?
@@TheBrokenMeeple I will buy Classics to play solo and 2 player.

Thank you!!! 🤗I haven't noticed the size issue yet.
@@TheBrokenMeeple it's tiny, but I can see it when shuffling the main deck.
Nice review.I am loving this game!

Thanks a ton!

That's the thing, it's quite long so solo is my way to go.
Good question. I haven’t played this yet, but I do like the way that in eg dominion the card effects do bare a striking similarity to their in game effects.
Yeah, the theme was done well here.

Thanks a bunch! I think I raided BGG for all it was worth for "supporting" items.

Thanks for this, it’s only £24 or less, so like buying a small box game, but with a lot of depth.
Yeah cheap price point though that is reflected in the components.....

Depends on the.. Have played Blitzkrieg? Such a simple game with solo mode having more rules than the game itself.
You're almost describing an armadillo. . . .

Couldn't agree more!
Finally a useful sponsor code
Glad you got use out of it, they've been very up front with me and supportive.
@@TheBrokenMeeple I haven’t, but definitely could
So far the Atlanteans are my favorite civilization. They start in the “empire” stage so they get to use the more powerful cards from the get go.
They're on the try pile!

Yeah it's a pain, I hear there's a browser app that someone has made that helps with that. I also printed off a score pad.

you can get it from Amazon without any problem (yeah, I dont like them either) and the price seems to vary on an hourly basis but not over 30€
@@FalkFlak Ah.. amazon UK, Amazon US is $52.80 + shipping Will look there. Most online retailers here are all sold out
That's a shame, I think some people still have stock in UK.
that's too bad, bro. Luckily I had a "feeling" about this game and ordered it in time. I think they're gonna be gone too, soon.
I want to like this game because of the art and theme but many reviews have said it’s so fiddly
That's what turned me off even though I love the theme.
It's not a pick up and play game by any means, but you can eventually conquer that.
Why did you tag this as Dune when this isn't that game?
Disagree about Classics first then Horizons. If you are comfortable with deck-building you can start at Horizons.
It's not just the deck building aspects though - there's a lot of micro rules to deal with.
Sounds like all the negatives you mentioned, game play time, rule book layout, missing information, size of text, is nothing new for a wargamer.
Probably not :P
Not very thematic. Also... way too long even with just two players.
great detailed review.. thanks luke
