I was a sign guy for 20+ years, did alot of vinyl letters, airbrushing painted carved signs, printed truck wraps, etc...the typical quick buck hack sign shop stuff....once I was at a sign convention in Atlantic City I saw a pinstriper/letterhead guy striping an old 50s ford panel truck with both hands at the same time......he could stop mid way through pulling a line talk to you go right back and keep going, you could not tell where he stopped, the rear doors and hood had an elaborate scroll design he did symetrically with both hands at the same time......it was absolutely wild and fun to watch a real artist enjoying his craft like that.....nothing compares to a real hand lettered job especially on an old restored race car, airplane, train etc.

Im 24 since i can remember i did stuff like this like this. Something about showing off your work nothing but your own true skills & years of trial & error.
I tried getting into selling & doing stuff like this but seems like not many people care for this & those who do want a great job & want to pay a penny
    Just another weekend hobby.
    Congrats for making it

As a sign artist of 20+ years who learned it from an elderly guy when I was in my 20's, it makes me happy to see it continued by the next generation. I don't get to do it very often anymore, too busy buildeing modern signage, but love my job when i get to. LOVE IT!! keep it up!

great video. one comment mentioned about this not being a lost art. I guess he didn't pick up the fact that it was sign painting. my brother in law's father was in this business. and yes there's not many sign painter's around, at least this type. many just use stencils and spray guns.

People have to convince themselves their technological laziness is evolution rather than the good old fashioned laziness it really is. You would be amazed how insecure people become anytime you mention somebody being good at something too. They think everybody should be equal, despite the hard work some of us put in to be excellent. Like musicians, they are convinced they made a deal with the devil. They can't believe somebody might have actually devoted their life to a craft, something besides their own self interest

    • @LongWalkFilms

Stephen Hargrave yes people have to feel special and unique and I suppose all you need now is an Instagram account to achieve this specialness

@@LongWalkFilms a lot of the people I come across are put off by the unique or the marvelous. I see instead a sad desperate attempt to "fit in." New Jersey is (was) one of the most respected bastions of hand lettering in the U.S.A. I traveled this nation for almost eighteen years pinstriping motorcycles ,hot rods ,and Custom cars, met many signmen across this nation ,most are still my friends to this day, and their talents are right up their with the GOAT . This and hand pinstriping are by no means dead, one of the tools that I make is a gridding tool that helps with symmetry , since 2009 I have sold 16,000 ! Doesn’t sound like it’s dyeing does it? I’ve also got brushes out that make learning fun, lettering or pinstriping doesn’t matter, I’ve changed the norm in design, and they are actually fun to work with..I will not let this art form die! It’s just too valuable, watch Davidographicsguy videos on you tube!

You seem to be confusing your own limited experience with everybody else.
You could have learnt from those mistakes and prevented them from happening again instead of being bitter about it,
And hours for a couple of hundred? A lot of people get that for a week so grow up and get some perspective.
