yet I love how much detail unreal 4 can provide us devs to make such an reallife game and to be fair this type of video is indeed very clean, easy to understand and learn and he always takes his time when it comes to making videos to really well done and thank you so much @Virtus!
The screen freeze when I try to drag the tree to ' drop foliage here ' column, any help , please ? I have a core I 5 2400, 2nd generation CPU , 8 gigabytes RAM , and gtx 1050ti..
If anyone else following this tutorial has a fairly weak computer, you might want to use the Infinity Blade - Grasslands assets in this tutorial instead because the assets in the Open World Demo Collection are massive. They won't look as nice, but at least your game won't run at 20fps. Plus there's a few other cool things in there like tree stumps, fallen leaves and roots.
You might've been to quick on that. Actually, you can just resize textures for every OpenWorldDemo asset, which you're gonna use. Most of them are 8k, so you might wanna scale then to 2048x2048 or even lower, depending on your PC. Will work like a charm then, without freezing and crashes.
Nice tutorial mate , and i say that every single asset you can get it free in epic launcher have royalty free license so you can use it even in commercial game but with one condition which is the game and your project must be build on UE4 engine so you can't use these asset in unity or other kind of engine .
how much does the Grass hit ur comp??? Like 100 trees vs. 100 grass, because it seems like u used at least 100x the amount of grass lol and so i was jw if in this case with the Kitedemo its as huge of a hit as 100x!
You've done such a good job with your tutorial series man. I hope you keep it up. Do you know of a good channel that makes Blender tutorials specifically for UE4?
Bro will i get landscape auto material ,stones ,grass and trees in that "add to project content in epic launcher" because i have download ue4 from other site without epic launcher Plz help me about the landscape materials ...... :(
Can someone please help me. I have like 10 projects made (dont really use them but they exist) and whenever I got the foliage pack, it cant find any of my projects to load in the foliage and other stuff like that. I don't know why, and whenever I search for it nothing comes up.
Thank you Virtus for the hard work on these learning Tuts you have a great way of teaching that pulls me in for more knowledge. I am at a stand still now on #25 and needs some help /ideas how to continue following along with you or it will be all lost for me sadly... My issue is coming down to compatibility " I do realize the age of these videos and the the version of the Unreal engine that you are on :) " Is there by chance that you may know of a plugin or something that maybe comparable to Open World Demo that is similar to use like you are doing here I value your feedback or anyone else for that matter thank you again P.S I am 3 weeks in learning Unreal Engine on version 5.3.2
Ok so problem seems to be solved after some more looking there is a compatibility issue still but the work around is in this video for my issue ua-cam.com/video/oxA4gWL7Eus/v-deo.html by Barcode Thanks again for the tuts! You rock :)

When I added the threes, and specifically the grass, the in game became very very slow.... so after some digging I realized in the Painting Options, selecting the asset (grass/tree), I can ENABLE DENSITY SCALING . Making it true solved the issue for me. I dont have particulary great hardware (as you can see for I'm using UE 4 in 2022 hehe)
this trees gave me some issues to build the lighting due high resolution, is that any way to improve performance when you are using large numbers of tree assets?
Quick question, whenever I try to build the lighting now it takes 84 years. I haven't added a lot of grass or trees, just a sparse amount but that alone seems to have broken the lighting to stalled it to a snail's pace. Any ideas on how to get around that problem?
Hey, do you know how LAM (Landscape Auto Material) works with so many materials? And I want it to be a bit more realistic. How could I use the materials I bought?
Hello Virtus Learning Hub i would tell you that If you do while Playing In editor Click Grave Button (~) you will access commands so i have package out my game , And i give it my friends and they Destroy it with these Commands Please Answer me , I need Your Help
Thank you so much for this. I always wanted to know how to build my own map, but everyone else around was either wasting time or wasn't explaining it all the way through
Hey, I stuck at this point. I've added some tree and bushes to my scene and after that I get all kinds of issues when I try to build lighting. Issues like: "InstancedFoliageActor_0 The total lightmap size for this InstancedStaticMeshComponent is large, consider reducing the component's lightmap resolution or number of mesh instances in this component" When I click on this it selects all the foliage I've added. But there's no option for changing lightmap resolution (also what is that?) Is this a limitation to my PC (eg. not being able to build lights for all the trees, since my PC is old) or a limitation of the engine (eg even if I'd have a stronger PC it would build the same way)? How do people build lush environments? And also issues about the small flowers from the open world demo. With that I get this error (~1500 times) : "Lightmap UV are overlapping by 96.7%. Please adjust content - Enable Error Coloring to visualize." I've seen UE scenes with much greater foliage density than mine, not sure how I can solve this. Tried to search online and posting on UE forums about the issues, but noone replied. Everyone just drops in 20 assets to foliage painter, brushes up 200 trees and light build for them in a few sec. For me it takes several hours to build lighting and drops a ton of errors. I also got an error about some "light importance volume missing", but I solved that by adding that volume to the scene as well.

to fix this you'd go to place actors -> LightMass Importance Volume, and make it the size of your playable area, so the light will be calculated only inside it
I'm running into an issue where whenever I move too far away, all of my meshes from Kite Demo turn into these ugly polygon-esque blobs. Not really sure what the issue is, but it makes it hard to plan out my level and is really distracting in game. Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much for all the wonderful tutorials!
I think it's an LOD thing, as you get further away from a highly detailed object, the engine reduces the poly count, this helps save resources on the pc. Does the objects become more detailed as you get close to them again....? If so that's probably what it is.
I'm new to Unreal and am trying to learn. When I add the exact same tree as in the video, exactly the same way he does, the tree has no materials added to it. Anyone know of a tutorial that shows how to add the materials please let me know.
Double click the tree mesh so that it takes you to the editor, select "collision" and on the bottom right you will have some options on how precise you want the collision to be :)
I have the same issue I can't even rightclick on it, you will most likely have to use a different assets, go use the Infinity blade assets, there is a grassland one which should fit.
just find out why i hade performance issues i had 3.8k trees xD oh yeah and btw how do i remoove them cuz its says in the foliage mode that it can erase some but idk how :(
My shit dint save i pressed save like 3 times before i turned it off and when i got back turned it on next morning now its all just the beginning third person house WTF
in 2019 well unity is much easier now , you can make a landscape in 10min with tress grass materiels texture everything .. in unreal you have to create mat for everything and wait 1 min to apply the mat in the landscape , alot of waitig
i Noticed in 1 of his videos his gpu was only running a core clock of 800mhz so thats like a 2gb 11.1dx not that expensive gpu... im running a 1st gen i7 quad core with radeon 7770 at 2gb an runs good for me i done a huge landscape plenty foliage .... hope that helps you an others
you can always get the materials an assets you want, then delete the rest after, make your own trees an rocks are better yet buy a bigger hard drive then you don't need to worry about the size.
Gotta say, I love your videos, It's simple and full of clarity, and I can easily see how you make it to start look really realistic and pretty.

same problem to me, did you get e solution?
coz its loading & if ur using a hard drive. wait for few mins & it'll be load
buy a ssd :D
loading time depends on ur system specs
These models have a high polycount (34000), your pc does not support it, test trees with a polycount of 2000 and it will be fine.
Your video tutorials are amazing!!! I only just got my new PC and started learning about UE4 3 weeks ago and I've done so much so far thanks to you!!!

TheBirdPuncher thanks bro
I have a decent pc with a i5-7400 and a gtx 1070 and cant even load these assets without crashing :(
Delete your app and download it again ^^
Constantly crashing on 4.19, thanks for the tip! Deleting these assets and grabbing the Grasslands one.

Hello, plase tree cut system tutorial video
Please I want to know how I can reduce the open world assets and make out good performance with my engine
What is the size of the pack?
You've done such a good job with your tutorial series man. I hope you keep it up.
Do you know of a good channel that makes Blender tutorials specifically for UE4?
How do u delete the last u made? like the last tree u make how?

This package is like 6 GB...and it installs right into the project folder rather then a shared path...
that's the way it is you dumbass

Yo I asked about this in the previous video too how do I fix terain textures stretching when I sculpt a piece of it straight up
You can try the Retropologize tool:
docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/Engine/Landscape/Editing/SculptMode/#retopologize
i have doesnt work and messes up my terain
texture coordinate might help you just youtube it and see .
did i dont know how to access the advanced texture settings
Thank you so much for this. I always wanted to know how to build my own map, but everyone else around was either wasting time or wasn't explaining it all the way through
Hey, I don't know why the engine crashes when I try to use any of the props from the 'Open World Demo Collection'........... Plz help!!
Rahul same thing happens to me. You need a high end pc to run it
Hey Virtus just curious why you chose to just paint on the foliage instead of the procedural foliage types?
how would i erase trees?
shift and left click
why if i add my whole outside wth grass and trees how can i make it lag less?
you would have to use 2d images of trees

How can we add trees to unreal engine please tell me
Watch this video.
ue4 is crashing alltime if i try to put a tree in the world
Ossburg try to paint some trees in, let it compile shaders, then build lighting, and repeat the process and see that helps.
I know right!
Create a big report and send to epic
Same
its because the trees or that pack was meant for high end pcs like titan x cards
Thank You Sooo Much For Showing how to do this!!!
another awesome vid
Love what you do.
12:10 that voice tho
Thank you! :) very concise tutorial man
Every time I rebuild the lighting when I press play I can't look around my guy is just looking down and i can just run in one direction.
and if I exit the engine and go back on its good but then if i add grass it fuks up again and i cant look anywhere but down.
what about the trees collision????
Double click the tree mesh so that it takes you to the editor, select "collision" and on the bottom right you will have some options on how precise you want the collision to be :)
thank you alot
I’m my opinion block all is the best
How come when I put in grass the texture isn't there, I have it and it says it's on but it's not
cuz ur bananna
I don't know if you fixed this issue, but for me i had to tone up the Graphics on the Engine.
How did you make those trees? I'm having a really hard time making good looking trees that don't have a high poly count. Thanks!
Cameron Edwards he downloaded them
Love your tutorials! Do you have 2D game tutorials?
